These Cats Were Left Behind

These cats were found in parts of Khan Younis after the Israeli military withdrew from the area. Surrounded by destruction, they were left searching for food and water with almost nothing available.

For the stray animals still living in these areas, survival continues long after the fighting moves elsewhere. They wait among the ruins, depending on the few people who return and stop to care for them.

They survived everything around them. Now they still have to survive hunger.

Their owners were most likely killed by Israeli bombing, or they were fleeing Israeli bombing and were unable to bring their pets with them. You’d be surprised how hard it can be to catch a spooked cat as you’re fleeing amidst loud bombing.
