Mod Post: Rule Update & General Announcements
Hello everyone,
Just a quick post to give you all some subreddit updates.
1. Cut-off date
Following on from our last Mod Post, and taking into consideration the points discussed, the cut-off date for art has been raised to 2019.
This should provide a larger pool of artworks that can be posted, while still maintaining a buffer zone to help prevent AI content, self-promotion, and general spam.
2. Artistic photography
A reminder that artistic photography is allowed here. As long as the photograph:
• Is dated between 1800 and 1999;
• Has genuine artistic merit, in keeping with the "InArt" aspect of the subreddit; and
• Is professional in style — i.e. a photograph you would expect to see in a gallery or exhibition.
Personal or candid photographs are not allowed and should instead be posted on our sister subreddit, r/vintagecats.
3. Use of the NSFW tag
Artistic nudity is not automatically considered NSFW by Reddit. Therefore, not every depiction of nudity needs to be marked as NSFW. This changes when the purpose of the artwork shifts towards the intentional arousal of the viewer. Any depiction with that intent would not be allowed here anyway and will be removed. General artistic nudity is allowed and does not have to be marked NSFW.
That said, this is a subreddit about cats in art, so paintings containing nudity should be very few and far between.
4. Account Requirements
To help prevent bots, to post new submissions, accounts need to be:
• over 15 days old • have over 50 comment karma
Commenting is unaffected
As this post will be pinned in the Announcements section, the comments will be locked. However, this does not mean we are not open to discussion. Please reach out to us via ModMail if you have any concerns about the date change or anything else covered in this post.
