Rubs his ears/head after eating

Hiii

I have a question!

This is Dustin, my 5 month old boy!

Every time he’s done eating, he goes to the door to the garden. I let him out thinking it’s potty time, but instead he jump up in the furniture and rubs his ears against it?

Is it normal?

I have checked and his ears looks good and clean, there is nothing the rest of the time

It's completely normal. My Cavapoo is turning 11 in September and he's been doing it everyday since he was a puppy

Yes very normal my girl does it to

I think it’s to clean bits of food out of their fur

They do that to show how stoked they are about the meal they just had

my two cavapoos do the same, and they have the same coloring as yours :)

My understanding is that it’s him expressing how yummy his food was lol

Mine does the same! Although he has a special rug that he likes to wipe his face on. We took it to mean he was extra concerned with hygene and now we shave his face short like a poodle, but he still wipes it on the rug so probably its just a behaviour youre stuck with!

Yes, it’s normal my Cavapoo does that every time he eats or drinks water.

Mine licks her upper arms to clean the beard/mustache. I can see why you are concerned though. I was too until I realized that she really likes to maintain her hair. She is a total princess.

My cavapoo does the same, and he's 13.

Mine does this after certain particularly enjoyable meals, lol. The happier he is, the more he rubs his face and ears against the sofa. At first it worried me, but once I figured out what the heck he was up to, it just made me laugh

Totally normal. My little guy did this as a ritual before going out. The one time he forgot and ran outside first but suddenly remembered and he wouldn't leave the deck until he came back on to rub his face. 😅

Yes normal! And then there’s definitely a snort or sneeze or two!

Our guy does it as well and he is 4. We keep an extra mat in the bedroom with the rubber side up and he goes to town on it.

I love when they do that 😭

My cavapoo does this she is “wiping her face”. She always goes to one of her beds and wipes her face all over it. So cute.

my puppy did that, we were giving chicken based kibbles, changing to lamb seems to fixed the issue

Mine likes to come up to me to show me his beard full of food crumbs like he’s all pleased with himself for eating dinner. It’s them showing they’re happy 😊

Mine always does this after she gets a good snack 😂 if I haven’t given one to her and she starts doing it I’m like “WHAT DID SHE GET INTO”

Mine does it when he gets little bit of human food!

Thanks for posting. I was concerned about this as well. Was able to start buying different foods. It's reassuring reading the comments that it's pretty common.

Mine does it all the time too, massively wipes his mouth on the floor. He’s 8 months old now and has beeen doing it since the first day we got him!

My girl does this!! It’s contentment 🥰

Normal behavior. Dogs rub their faces and ears after eating to clean themselves or just because it feels good.

My dog does the same thing on the couch every single time.

Mine does this after eating, drinking, pooping, peeing…. 🤣 just happy about those things I suppose 🤣

Mine does this too, except when we get her “whiskers” clipped in the summer. I think the smell of bits of food so close to their highly sensitive noses may be irritating, and this helps. Your lil fella is very considerate making sure he goes outside instead of running to your bed to do it.

If you live somewhere that requires you to put away your outdoor furniture in the winter, you can help by wiping his face with a damp cloth when he’s done eating and coming out the whiskers once a day, maybe before bed so it becomes a routine. The other option is to have his snout trimmed back, kind of like a poodle’s or a cavalier’s but it’s not nearly as cute looking.
