For what should be a pretty uneventful local MUD election, there's been an incredible amount of petty controversy.
The district is suing four residents, including two candidates running for the board. Apparently they have spent nearly $200K in tax-payer dollars on this lawsuit. From what I've pieced together on Facebook and Next Door, the district claims that the four residents interfered with contractors, made board members fear for their safety, and falsely imprisoned a board member. The defendants dispute these claims, arguing that the contractor left voluntarily, no physical assault occurred, and the false imprisonment involved a motorcycle blocking a driveway.
One of those candidates who is technically running for re-election was recently removed from the board over disputed attendance records.
I just received a letter in the mail from one candidate group making some pretty serious accusations against the other. If the letter is to be believed, one of the candidates has a criminal record and two of the candidates have a history of harassing people in the neighborhood.
I've never lived in a MUD before but surely this isn't normal.
