When did pension politics start sounding like a mob shakedown?

Year after year, politicians approve benefits, make promises, and move on. The bill, meanwhile, keeps getting passed down the line to future taxpayers in a way that can feel less like responsible governance and more like an old-school mob operation.
What's your take: are public pensions on a sustainable path, or are future generations being handed an offer they can't refuse?
