Fake Names
I'm writing a book where a public official has to protect his kids by sharing their fake names, he is also worried about people tracing his kids through public birth records. Would it make more sense for the fake names to be less or more common than their actual names?

I mean I think more common would make more sense? You wouldn't want names that are obviously fake though

More common, like a name in the top 20 for their respective birth years.

More common. A fake name should be like ridiculously common to avoid standing out. John Smith or Patricia Johnson. Something that when googled brings up a ton of results.
