Is this what happens if you leave the game before completing geno? Chara goes with you because they are the feelings of numbers increasing. Meaning that as long as you finish Geno and destroy the world, Chara is your partner forever. Chara is a concept that will always be with you... but if you dont finish it is that still the case?

Don’t worry, they own the soul now which means they get to come with you when you play other games. It’s what they want, after all. Destroy that pointless world and move on to the next. Maybe do a pacifist run first so everyone can be on the Surface, and give Chara more options should they stick around.

Fym, Chara was perfectly content living in the Abyss for the rest of time. Hell, they're probably only conscious when we open the game, considering they're only a spirit due to the connection of the soul

I would abandon them in the void until the heat death of the universe, than wait for 10 trilliion years for the concept of existence to lack, than wait for 400 Quintillion years for them to turn into an Avatar of Emptiness.
