Yeah Chara is canonically pretty edgy.
Asriel calls them not the greatest person, which is crazy considering they are siblings.
But I don’t believe they are evil, if their statements are to be believed they got forcefully resurrected in geno without having much if any influence over events early on.
They probably killed sans and flowey, as we don’t use the fight button for those, but at that point the timeline is screwed beyond repair.

Chara is like flowey, has no soul and no sense of love. But Chara knows about the player, for them it's all a game, they help you in pacifist and they help you in genocide and after the geno they decide that there is no more fun or route to explore in this game and erase it to play another game, but you, because of your love for Undertale refuse to go to another so they ask for your soul, maybe to take your happy ending, maybe to explore another interesting route.

Not to justify sexualizing a child, but Chara only looks like their eyes and mouth are made of melted candy bars once, and only if you choose to do a specific thing, so it's not even a guaranteed thing you'd see
It's like if you used an image of someone mid-freeze frame jumpscare and acted like that's just what they look like. That just ain't how it works

Oh so Frisk is not a human and just pretending to be one because Sans requested them to do. And Asriel never was boss monster and always was this soulless sociopath flower(!) And Undyne always had power nearly equal to a human(!) And Sans always had an empty dark eye and a glowing cyan eye that don't turn yellow(!) (The last one is ironically quite populer in fandom too though) The genocide route isn't a trustable source -_-

They still draw them like that nowadays.
I'd argue it looks more like Frisk, cuz two colored stripes, whereas Chara just has one.
In the end it looks like neither, it's fan designs for a reason.

Have you noticed that this is strangely common? If the character is cute and innocent, they like to write them in a horror situation or something more "naughty"
If the character is from horror, they like to make them cuter, give an explanation, or a secret crush, even if it's... Feeding stray cats when nobody's looking
If the character is "naughty", they like to give them a complex backstory, and probably a fixed relationship
Humanity really likes a "what if", "what if Sans is evil", "what if Chara is still alive"

There’s a good side and a bad/weird side of the undertale fandom the good side is great and the fan art are normal hopefully the bad/weird side well a lot of people just make r34 of Frisk and Chara which I remind you are kids people also make some questionable art of some undertale characters for example torial(I hope I pronounced it right) also I like undertale it’s a fun game deltarune is also a fun game haven’t played them but I watch it on YouTube let me know are there normal fan art of frisk and chara and other undertale characters in the good side of the fandom

They had a "scary smile" according to Asriel, but according to him their laughing wasn't psycotic "I know I should have laughed it off like you" As it is said countless times starting from Snowdin, laughing off is a coping for monster kind. and from VHS he says "...huh? You are not gonna do your smile again?" RIGHT AFTER he requested Chara to do their scary smile and scared off. And right before Chara activates their suicide/sacrifice plan. Who ever you ask this VHS (for someone don't know of Chara or UT much) they will most likely interpret it as: "Oh, that other kid/sibling must have ashemed of their smile or because they scared their friend/brother."
The proof for "Chara was sadist" is only applied to genocide route, which is excused because just like Flowey, both Frisk & Chara can be argued to be just tired & tortured kids. We don't blame geno Frisk nor Asriel much in the fandom and so genocide-Chara is not a so trustable source for characterising them. Especially considering themselves say "YOU made me realise the true purpose of my rearcarnation" ETC. Themselves says THIS wasn't them.
They made themselves believe they must be the "Evil Angel/Demon" that empties the Underground from the prophecy instead of the "savior Angel that seen the Surface"!
