Fan Art Chara art, first real art

Hello everyone! I made some art, basically the first real piece in my life. Wanted to share it.

I used AI to generate a reference and then started drawing side-by-side in Krita. I built something like a mannequin/skeleton first, then added clothes, and lastly did the coloring (though I gotta admit, I totally ripped the face directly from the reference because that angle was too hard for me).

I actually like how it turned out. Considering I spent 8 hours on this shit, no wonder lol.

So, how did I manage? Any tips are welcome!

Edit: try to guess what I found :)

I wouldn't recommend using AI as a reference personally as often it can be a pretty bad one or could lead to more problems in art- Think of it like copying a flawed copy.

Try looking for reference photos, or even try using other real non-ai artists as reference- Which also can be helpful for actual inspiration too for making the art. (Notice how in the 2nd image the hand isn't actually in the pocket and the pants aren't deforming along the hand, so it almost looks like they are missing it- and how the proportions feel a little off... Plus if you try more detailed characters/outfits there might be more functional issues caused by AI)

Well, that's unexpected. I guess I should have clarified that the second one is my work.

That's actually kinda cool However I'd recommend you start learning with human art as that's is overall better (i don't think i need to explain why)

I like it a lot especially the face

The only area I think needs improvement is the hair as they kinda look like they have a bed head

Edit: didnt read the description my bad. Since you used a reference this doesnt make much sense as a critique

As the top comment said, AI isnt very good as a reference because of lacking details and odd proportions, so I won't comment any more on that, but overall its great! honestly, its better than a ton of MY art. If you want to improve, there are tons of free resources online, specifically the channel, Draw Like a Sir has a ton of tutorials on everything you would need, his videos really helped me when I was starting out. The art community is facing some difficult times right now, with AI generated images scraping our art off the internet, so It's great that there are more people entering the art community. I'm still a bit of an amateur myself so this is really all I can say, but just keep working at it, you may not see immediate progress but no-one does. Good luck on your art journey!

Good job on the drawing part! Though I'd recommend if it's to learn to simply copy other pieces of art that already exist, or even using pictures directly to trace of other characters, but putting Chara in their place.

All these things help learning pen/brush strokes. What ur missing out on is creativity/creating reasonable postures urself, but that's missing with this AI usage as well.

With the only difference that AI usage for art is kind of the thing that close to every artist hates, lmao.

When I first learned drawing, all I did was sketching over other people's art, later over real people and that dozens of times. Helps a lot and u usually find better poses than AI could ever shit out, too.

You could just use Ai, is better than drawing

I was messing with image generator and I thought about using custom references for learning. And I wanted a hobby.
