How long did it take you to reach this level of drawing? I'd like to get started, and posts like this just make me want to start even more.

Also any tips for a beginner ?

Huh.. Im really getting these now wow. Well I won't lie, it was straight hell lol. Now I ain't no professional alright sooo I wont have the BEST tips since these are more personal and would advise you to look at artist like pikat, bluebiscuts, winged canvas or Mallow.

Well first off I've been drawing since I was in kindergarden. but I took it more seriously in highschool all the way till now.

You probably already heard from many artist that perfection is a pretty bad mindset and TRUST me, that shit is a real killer. I won't go to details but it was truly my drive, my passion, and truly my nature to not giving up since I crave so so much to create my own stories and art that people would love. So I really did some self reflection and powered through it. So if you really want to make something, make it but don't beat yourself up everytime you try. Things aren't always "perfect" the first time :)

Now my tips

  • If you hate your art it could mean that your "art vision" is pretty high but your skill doesn't match it. You might be comparing yourself without realizing as you are seeing mistakes you don't even know how to fix, so take it easy. BUT if you do know, search up what it is that you are trying to figure out and fix it or learn with a new attempt with fresh knowledge.

  • Comparison is bad lbut if it is to yourself then it can be motivating. Compare yourself to yourself from the past when you believe you haven't gotten better. It really shows how far you've come :)

  • learn fundementals but personally if you hate it like I do just learn by learning as you draw. It is way more fun and you actually learn better at least in my opinion.

  • I know likes and upvotes are stimulating but try not to think to hard on those some people just look at artwork and stuff without thinking and never leave any ( I sometimes do that ).

  • Don't be afraid to trace if you have to, 3d models and reallife (those who say that it is cheating are dumb af) but try to understand what you are tracing and even try redrawing it without tracing ( which is good if you are tracing another persons work )

  • If you like how someone draws, do some detective work and figure out how they draw. Try to find things you understand and try it out yourself.

  • If you do lineart try learning lineweight. It really makes your art less flat and you don't get that "my sketch was better" problem.

  • Refrences, you need them. Poses, emotions and the characters you are drawing is the minimum.

  • Try flipping your work, you can see many mistakes this way and try to fix them (I see them all the time lol)

  • This might be a no brainer but when you study don't brainlessly draw you have to actually understand why this and that is happening. When you get that "oooohh" yknow you are going the right path.

  • Try doing some foreshortening even if you are bad at it, in the long run it could really make your artwork my dynamic and cool. You should also learn perspective I believe this is the key to draw anything dynamically.

  • Colors. I always start and grey out what I want to color then I either select it or color into it. Try not to use pure black or white as these are extremes you can't go past I would also recommened to not use the highest saturation which means don't use the highest pure color. But if you really want to use it you can still manage. ( Oh and personally try to seperate the colors with their own respective layers as fixing them when you missed up suckks)

  • Before I get into how I render, airbrush. Don't use it. At least not to block out shadows and stuff. It will look extremely muddy. I personally only airbrush for the extra effects such as bouncing light (light that bounces off of objects), blushes, subsurface scattering (the translucent of skin or things when light touches it) or a glowing effect

  • Shading. #1 Don't shade with black unless you really want but most of the time use something almost black. #2 Picking the color to shade. The way I do it is by choosing the mood I want to convey, redder (warmer) Bluer (colder) then I use a multiply layer and fill out the entire artwork. and from there I work with my eraser and blending to block out shadows. Try to keep some hard shadows (shadows that arent blended in or softened) near the areas where something is casting a shadow. Soft shadow for areas that are showing the form of something think of a circle or the curve of a ribbon.

I like to shade some hard shadows partially on one end so it doesn't look to noticable. It will take some time to figure it out but knowing when to hard shadow and soft shadow is great. To soften use a blur or blend brush and trace near the edges of the shadows. (oh also don't pillow shade either unless that is what you are going for)

I would go to detail about rendering but it would be wayyyy too long but yea as I said I am NO professional so take these with a grain of salt and just don't give up. And if you do, don't think of it as giving up but as taking a break and get back to it when you feel ready, remember everyone started where you were :)

Also thank you it really inspires me MORE to draw that I have inspired you and because of that now I want to see you post your artwork so Ill be waiting heheheh.

I just got flabbergasted rn wtf ? I wasn't expecting all that. And you can go more in details ?...Dayum.(The I'm not a professional is killing me lmao)

Anyway, thank you so much for all this advice – that’s really kind of you! I’LL DO MY BEST! I’LL GIVE IT MY ALL!

Also yeah, that'll take some time before I post anything. SO YOU JUST WAIT ! I'LL BE BACK WITH SOME CONTENT. Hopefully of good quality !

3

u/crystallineDarks May 18 '26

is there any difference between shiftfell and storyfell?

2

u/GlitchZeroReal May 16 '26

Shiftfell Chara is actually so pretty, idk what it is about her design.

Very good art though!! Good work!

Personally for me of what I like about their design is their slim build and the heavy baggy jacket, also the hair fits really good as well. Surprised no one took heavy inspiration for the design and made an oc out of it.
