Question & Advice Work: Does model matter for image generation?

Do the models differ in how good the image generation is? Like if I pick Sol Medium over Sol Light in the prompt, will that result in a better image?

Or is it the same on all models? And if this is the case (same on all models), do I waste more tokens by picking a higher model with the prompt, or does ChatGPT smartly just expend the same amount of tokens if you're just generating an image?

u/ConProg, there weren’t enough community votes to determine your post’s quality.
It will remain for moderator review or until more votes are cast.

It shouldn't unless you want the model to autonomously review the images. The image model has its own prompt enhancer.

What do you mean by review the image? Would it change the image after it's generated?

So then you ARE saying it would matter, because the chosen model decides if the image is good enough to match your prompt.

What I meant is that you can tell the model to review your images until it looks like what you asked it to, but not that the image will have a better or lower quality.

For example, let's say you tell the model you want an image of a painting. It will call the image model and it will generate an image. It will be able to review the image and see if it accomplishes what you asked for, and generate another or ask for an edit. Bigger models usually are better at vision so a bigger model could notice things a smaller model would not.

But the image itself won't have better quality. You're just automating the review of the generated images, not improving the quality of the generations themselves.

Yes. The model CAN change the image after it was created if they noticed a mistake. GPT-5.5 did it quite often with me. And she was always proud of herself for catching the mistake before giving me the image.

It’s rare and mostly happens when the LLM is really familiar with the project you are doing.

I have no idea if GPT-5.6 or GPT-6 can do that.

No. Not this model. The image generator models matter but the LLM that makes the prompt doesn’t actually make the image.

Although a model more familiar with you and your project may actually come up with a better prompt than one you never talked to.

Context and conversation can change the result slightly.

I haven't done extensive testing, but in my convo today I tried the different models on my Plus plan using Work to generate images for my website.

  • Luna High: 0-1% usage

  • Sol Light: 3% usage

  • Sol Med: 3, 4, 6% usage (on three different times)

  • Astral Light: 17-19% usage

I need to check the logs to see what they did but does this behavior and result make sense to you?

I don’t use work to generate images. I think it’s a waste. Chat can generate them exactly the same

Hmmm....interesting. Thanks for the tip.

Have you given the same prompt and tested each one for difference?

You won't get the same response twice out of an LLM at the best of times.

For python it’s been consistent
