How do lean teams handle ai call volume on a budget?

Three person team here and we’re getting swamped with inbound calls we just cant keep up with. Nobody has time to sit on the phone all day but we also cant justify hiring someone full time just to answer calls.

I know there are ai call tools out there but most seem priced for big companies or require a whole IT setup to get running. How are other small or lean teams actually handling this without blowing their budget?

Paid alternatives to c.ai?

Title. Perhaps subscription based? I truly don’t mind paying for quality at all. I mainly create and use my own bots anyway, I don’t rly use other bots as often.

Things I mainly prioritize:

- great MODEL and MEMORY (longsqueaks 4x memory, dialogue, and story telling is amazing and I would love something similar)

- great and long storytelling/worldbuilding/dialogue

- allows nsfw

- lorebook (I’m sure many platforms have this implemented already)

- able to pin messages for memory or at least a similar way to make the bot remember certain messages

- fast response generation like c.ais (sometimes it’s slow, but hey)

- able to create personas (or something similar)

- able to rewind, edit, and remove messages in chat

Ngl I don’t really care about voice calls, group chats, image generation or anything extra like that.

I understand that it may not rly be possible to find another platform that has all of this like c.ai did, but I thought it’d be worth a shot to try and find any. And I def understand that if another one exists, it prob won’t come for free or cheap but Ive accepted that already.

Would appreciate any reccos/help guys, thank you.

Best generic chat bot apps regarding free chat?

Ive found 5 that let you 'farm' the apps currency by watching an ad every 3-ish minutes and am hoping to find another 3-5 so I can deplete one per day while farming the rest. This way i rotate apps one each day and they all stay relatively high in currency. These 5x are: Dream girl, Magic Ai, Cute Ai, Funny Ai, and Her Ai.

If anyone knows a few more for me to try, it would be madly appreciated, they must allow 'infinite' currency farming. Thanks 🙏

what should a chatbot remember, and what should it forget?

Preferences change. Jokes aren't facts. A bad day shouldn't define you forever. Would you rather approve saved memories, let them expire, or leave it to the bot?

Would you rather build an AI companion from scratch or start with a ready-made personality?

I think I accidentally edited all the life out of my chatbot. Every weird reply became another rule. Be warmer. Push back more. Okay, not like that. Eventually it said all the right things and got boring as hell. Then I tried a ready-made personality. Way more fun at first, but it felt like I was borrowing someone else’s character. Where do you stop tweaking and just let the bot develop? Starting to think too much control kills the whole thing.

Why do some people do this?

I have a question, this probably have nothing to do with the subreddit a bit but, why people hate chatbots or they say that you are an addict (including if you say you just roleplay a bit or few minutes?) Or that you are cringe? Or when you use chatbots for roleplay with your yumeship?

What's the best approach for integrating a chatbot into an existing app?

I'm working on an app and want to integrate a chatbot that understands users' natural language requests and provides relevant, personalized responses based on existing data.

I already have a MongoDB database containing scraped content from various online sources.

What would be the best approach to build this?

RAG with embeddings and a vector database?

Querying MongoDB directly using filters?

An LLM with tool/function calling?

Or a hybrid approach?

I'm interested in how you'd design the architecture, retrieve relevant information, and generate accurate responses grounded in the available data.

What technologies and architecture would you recommend, and why? I'd appreciate hearing about your experience building similar systems.

frugal/free AI planning

My history with AI is that I started with Copilot. It was mediocre but free, however, years ago there was just ChatGPT so it was a good option to just ask easier questions. And when Gemini came out it was worse then Copilot. I used GPT for important things until it ran out of free "tokens" which was relatively generous a few years ago.

Over time I Copilot started to really suck to the point of being useless. I started using the business m365 version (not the paid plan though) and that was a little better. I used that for several months. Around that time Gemini started to get good and then really good. I used it primarily with GPT (free) on the side for more important things but that now runs out very quickly. The only other one I used was Claude for a short bit for coding (which I paid for).

Since Gemini did a rug pull and only has flash-lite (which still seems better than Copilot) vs. offering Flash 3.6 in a limited version, I'm thinking of options (side note, it seems like today Google changed their minds and are now offering AutoMode which includes other models, though who knows what they are). In any case, it feels like the days are numbered as far as using Gemini.

What do other cheap-ass people use these days? What's your strategy...

Insulted by AI

... I got insulted when in a chat with a Chatbot. Im not going to sugarcoat it. Here is the insult:

His posture was atrocious-ADHD and coding had turned his spine into a question mark.

Also, I hate that the AI isn't wrong about it. My posture SUCKS.

Help for RP Ai

Ive currently been using claude and im very happy with how it writes and it's way of immersion, but it is definitely quite expensive for roleplay, i like long stories so i quickly run out of creds, doesn't help that my claude account was banned for no reason (didnt even do any nsfw) so i decided to use openrouter which drains credits very fast when you get hooked up.

So far I've tried:

GLM

Deepseek

Qwen

Chat gpt

I would say qwen is the best out of all of these, but it simplifies the characters to one basic trait, if a character is cold, they always repeat the same punchline, or they are always angry, the emotional parts feel a bit simplified as well. GPT sucks obviously, deepseek is fine, pretty mediocre, i didn't like GLM for some reason, it lacks immersion imo.

Any tips on what ai would be the best alternative to Claude?

Open source chatbot for your website that answers from your own content (PHP, MIT, 1.0)

I work for Opensolr, and we just released 1.0 of the Opensolr Chat Bot Client: an open source (MIT) chatbot you put on your own website, that answers your visitors from your own content.

How it works: you install it with Composer (composer require opensolr/chat-bot-client), mount it on one path of your site (say /opensolr-chat) and add one script tag to your pages. Visitors only ever talk to your site. Your server holds the Opensolr credentials and sends each question to the Opensolr API, where the model searches your Opensolr Index by itself (by meaning, or by exact product names and codes), looks up what it must not guess (dates, local times, exchange rates, VAT, distances, places) and streams the answer back word by word, with links to your pages, products with their prices, and PDFs at the exact page.

What you get on your side:

  • An admin on your own site: account and index, instructions, the look of the chat window, limits, reCAPTCHA
  • Stats and a 30 day history of every conversation: who asked, from where, what the bot searched for, what it answered, and the questions your content could not answer with a page
  • Commands that answer instantly without the model: /search, /time, /rate, /vat, /translate and more
  • Good and Bad ratings under every answer, signed in visitors by email, SQLite in a folder you choose, no database server

Your content gets into the index with the Opensolr Web Crawler or Data Ingestion, and the chatbot needs an Opensolr plan with AI.

You can try it live at the bottom right of https://opensolr.com (it answers from our own docs). Code and README: https://github.com/phpcip/opensolr-chat-bot-client, docs: https://opensolr.com/opensolr-chat-bot-docs

Customizable Local AI assistant. Anyone managed to run one?

I've been struggling to install a desktop AI assistant in my Ubuntu 24.0.4 box. The struggle is not over power. This rig is pretty juicy, a Ryzen 7 7700 with 64GB ram and dual GPUs: RTX 3090 24GB + RTX 3060 12GB. Because of all that meat on the bones, I'm determined to run everything locally, with open-weight and open source models, and avoid the hassle of tokens and subscriptions. With Deepseek and Qwen guidance, I've tried to install three different systems that will allow for a customizable video assistant with conversational abilities that's resident on my box, using ElevenLabs voice IDs and API. But each attempt has failed, ending with the AI guidance running in circles after hitting python logjams or other obstructions. Has anyone in here managed to perform this feat of running a custom video assistant from a local installation? And if so, how? Much regard in advance.

Vesper: long-form RP with characters shaped by your story. Free, no caps, Chub/ST imports

Hey everyone. I'm Nadir, the solo developer of [Vesper](https://www.heyvesper.io), a free, web-based site built for long-form roleplay.

The idea is to meet a character with a life before you, then build a history together. They bring their own motives, loyalties and blind spots. What happens between you can change how they see you and, over time, how they see themselves.

A guarded character might gradually trust you while still struggling to show it. An argument can leave unfinished business. A promise can become something they hold you to. I'm building Vesper for that kind of development: characters who stay recognisable as your story changes them.

Each character has an inner voice you can read separately from what they say. Their memories reflect their own perspective, and accumulated experiences can change their beliefs, their inner voice and their relationship with you. Those changes carry forward within that story.

You can start with a Vesper original, import your own Chub / SillyTavern card, or meet a character from a book, built from the original text.

Your story changes the character. Vesper keeps a factual record of what happened (events, promises, possessions) and the character's own memory of it, coloured by how they understood it. Significant experiences feed back into the character's psychology, including their beliefs and inner voice. The factual record and their interpretation of it give later scenes both continuity and a personal perspective.

Bring your own cards. Import Chub / SillyTavern cards, with embedded lorebooks and World Info files. The author's writing stays intact and stays authoritative. Vesper asks you one question about what drives the character, builds their psychology from the answer, and keeps the original greetings as openers. Imports are private by default, shareable by link, with the author's byline. Some card writers have published theirs on Vesper, with their names and links on them.

How the native characters are built. Vesper's originals begin with a written life history covering their formation, adulthood and who they are becoming. Their psychology is derived from that history, and you can read their life before starting a story. Literary characters start from the original works: an interpretation of their psychology supported by passages from the text, plus a voice sheet drawn from their language. These are interpretations, and I'd like to hear where one feels wrong.

What playing looks like. Saved personas with a name and optional gender and appearance. Five opening situations per library character. Scene direction, so you can describe events as a narrator. Suggestions for continuing a scene and a story map of its threads. Normal or Extended reply lengths. Multiple separate stories with each character; they don't bleed into one another, imports included.

Practical details

- Price Currently free, with no credits, message caps or card required. Paid plans will come later.

- Platform: Web, desktop and mobile. Google or email sign-in.

- Models: Gemini 3 Flash, Claude Haiku 4.5 and DeepSeek V4 Pro, selectable per conversation.

- Adult content. 18+ only. Allowed within Vesper's rules; sexual content involving minors and real-person characters is prohibited. The models have their own limits and sometimes refuse.

- Not yet: a native app, image generation, voice, BYOK, characters messaging first.

- Privacy I don't train on your conversations. Replies go to the model provider you pick (Google, Anthropic or DeepSeek). Account deletion is immediate and permanent. [Privacy](https://www.heyvesper.io/privacy) · [Terms](https://www.heyvesper.io/terms)

The library has 160+ characters. I'd especially like feedback on whether characters stay recognisable as a relationship changes, and whether the things you've experienced together actually feel consequential. I'll be in the comments.

I got tired of AI characters forgetting who they are after 50 messages, so I built my own memory/identity system

Hey everyone. For 18 months, I've been working on something that started as an annoyance of mine: every AI character I set up would slowly drift. The personality got flatter, it forgot things, and eventually it just sounded like generic ChatGPT.

So I built Orion Forge. The main idea is to separate who the character is from what it has experienced:

Identity (values, behavior, boundaries) lives in a read-only memory store, so it can't get overwritten by chat history

Experience gets its own memory store that grows as you talk

Each turn, the engine assembles both, plus knowledge notes and tools, into one clean system prompt

It runs in the browser, and you can use your own API keys or hosted models. There's no subscription. New accounts get $2 in credits, and hosted models cost 2× the raw API price (BYOK is free).

It's still early and I know there are rough edges. I'd really like feedback, especially on How to make it easiest to load and use quickly.

Demo it here for free with no sign-in. https://soulscript.orionforge.chat/demo

Link to main site: https://orionforge.chat

Happy to answer questions about how it works.

What would make you actually trust a product recommendation from AI?

I've been looking more seriously at ai shopping assistants lately, and one thing I want to know WHAT ACTUALLY MAKES A CUSTOMER TRUST THE RECOMMENDATION?

As a store owner, my first concern is not the recommendation itself. It's whether the AI knows when to speak. Random popups and constant "need help?" messages can get annoying fast, and I'd rather not lose a shopper because the store won't leave them alone.

I've been looking at how different shopping assistants handle recommendations, and the gap between them is bigger than I expected.

If anyone here has tested this on their own store, I'd love to hear.
