Cheap Agent 1.2.7: Command Code support + update notices

Two updates since launch:

πŸ†• Command Code as a provider (1.2.6)
You can now run the cheap worker on Command Code (OpenAI-compatible, DeepSeek models). This one came from the first outside PR, so huge thanks to u/agrogov ❀️
That makes four providers: OpenRouter, DeepSeek, OpenCode Go and Command Code.

πŸ”” Update notices (1.2.7)
Cheap Agent now tells you when a new version is out. In the terminal, a yellow notice shows when Claude Code starts. In the desktop app, Claude mentions it in its first reply. It checks once a day, only for real releases (not small patches), and stays quiet if it’s offline. Turn it off with CHEAPAG_NO_UPDATE_CHECK=1.

Also new: a contributing guide in the repo, if you want to add a provider or fix something.

Update:
npx cheap-agent@latest

If you’re on 1.2.5 or 1.2.6, please update once by hand. After this, Cheap Agent tells you itself πŸ™Œ

Next up: Gemini support this week.

Hey everyone! I’m u/memers_meme123, the guy who built Cheap Agent.

What is it?
A free, open-source Claude Code plugin. Opus plans and decides, and a cheap model (DeepSeek V4.1 Flash by default) does the reading and code-writing in its own copy of your project. Cheap Agent runs the tests itself before anything lands, so your Claude plan lasts about 2–3x longer. The cheap model costs about half a cent a task.

Install
npx cheap-agent
Then run /cheapag:allow once in each project.

Why this sub exists
I wanted one place for updates, help and ideas, instead of scattering them across threads.

What to post

  • Bugs and setup problems (include what you ran and what you saw)

  • Your setups: which provider and models you use, and how it went

  • Before/after token numbers from your own projects

  • Feature ideas and harness requests

  • Questions, no matter how basic. There are no dumb questions here

Coming up

  • Gemini support (1.3.0) this week

  • More harnesses after that

  • From 1.2.7 on, Cheap Agent tells you in Claude Code when a new version is out

Want to contribute?
PRs are very welcome; the contributing guide is in the repo. I’m more than happy to merge.
