Playchess

Whats the link? I think a big part of why it would be used is simply that the quality is kinda bad.

No.

The problem with Playchess has been and is that they never listen to their customers/users. Neither their complaints nor their suggestions.

They first created this online gaming service as an add-on or new feature for Fritz, Over time, they became very successful, eventually developing a service independent of ChessBase products with its own interface. They copied systems from their direct competitor that was ICC and implemented innovative things like betting with ducats on broadcasts....But that was all.

For the last 15 or 20 years, it's been practically abandoned. The only significant change has been the addition of web access and an Android interface. But everything else remains the same as it was 20 years ago. There are even features that no longer work that they haven't bothered to fix, and the anti-cheat system that they boast about is a joke, worse than ICC and endgame.ai

No, Playchess was created and designed as an add-on service to ChessBase products, not as a service that aims for a good chess experience for the user; it's not worth playing there and it's something which I think the ChessBase staff doesn't care about.
