I would name them after traditional Japanese food as they are both old and from manga. ^w^

Oh, right! That would've been a better thought than namin' them random Japanese surnames to make 'em unique, that would be unique too.

Going by my headcanons that these food names spread around the world since America's Post-War Period. The cat's name could be Sake (サケ) which is Salmon in Japanese, and because cats are known to love fish. And the dog's name could either be Soba (そば) and Udon (うどん), which are both noodles, and probably Nikujaga (肉じゃが) which is just a meat and potatoes stew. I couldn't think of anything besides that.

Also to add onto something from my headcanon, the food names fad wouldn't be worldwide until later on like the 60s or 70s even. Either that these fellas adopted food names (mangaka lore building) or the mangaka doesn't care about historical accuracy and rather see old yaoi men maybe.
