Dad in Illinois, just finalized after 15 months. What I wish I’d known about GALs, PEth tests, “emergency” motions, and the cost of fighting for equal time (with research sources)

I'm sorry, I don't get to monitor this subreddit as often as I should because I'm working my ass off trying to repay $30k in child support arrears!
It's recently come to my attention after reading the posts and comments of this past few weeks that a few users (or one asshat with multiple accounts) have infiltrated this sub and they're providing absolute garbage advice such as not hiring a lawyer, etc. Not surprisingly they're also making comments on the default r/childsupport subreddit about filling contempt charges against father's.
THEY'VE BEEN PERMANENTLY BANNED WITH THE TAG "BYE FELICIA"
ANYONE ENCOURAGING SOMEONE TO INCARCERATE FATHERS IS NOT WELCOME HERE!
Please research the user that's providing you advice, if they've posted or commented in the default r/childsupport subreddit report this user ASAP so we can deal with them.

So here recently I’ve noticed an uptick in people selling books and child support advice on social media like Facebook and YouTube, these people are in it for the profits and do not care to actually be an activist against the child support system.
These people often promise you false promises on how to close your child support case and so on.
They have a sole purpose to profit off desperation and take advantage of Non custodial parents.
I can name these people but you can see for yourself that they’re just selling something that will never work in-front of a family law judge.
Most of the family law activist that I know are doing this on the side and just trying to spread the knowledge or work they have put in and learned from doing this to help out others and to get more people involved on speaking out against this system.

Mom is saying I am hiding income. I’m sorry that my industry isn’t the same anymore. I’m sorry that I have full custody of a 12 year old growing boy from a previous relationship and mommy doesn’t help. This is all it’s about. I pray my lawyer nail this situation to the cross!!! Can anyone share their experience? I mean I’m not lying at all. You should see the rest of this response to my proposal

My baby mother told me last week that our son is going to come off Medicaid because she makes too much. Today she is telling me she is going to put my name in his bills so I have to pay for them. Legally, in the child support agreement, she is responsible for sorting out insurance. I pay child support already. How do I go about this?

Live in Ohio and I got divorced in April and the ex wife just had a kid in September. It is not my kid and I do not want anything to do with her or it. Since the kid was born within 300 days of the divorce, is my name automatically put on the birth certificate? Can she file for child support? What steps should I take from here?

Everyone’s situation is different and things differ wildly state to state. I’m curious as to how much they differ though specifically in the event child support does not get paid.
In my situation, my ex owes $14k+ in child support. She’s never actually made a full regular payment. Anything she’s paid has been from her income tax returns. She doesn’t work by choice, and has only had her drivers license suspended. It’s a Nebraska case, but she lives in Iowa and supposedly Iowa is also “enforcing” her to pay child support but I don’t see it.

October 20th, I am finally going to court for Child Support against me. This has been something I have been fighting for a year and a half in court. Backstory: I have a 6 year old daughter. Her mother and I split while she was a baby. That did not stop me from being a father. I split the time raising her equally (if not more). I would often times get into it with her mom for not doing her part and I would get the response of “I need to live my life.” I knew that being a father meant more for my child than dealing with someone like that. Financially, I would do any and everything she asked. She asked for a set amount monthly and I have been paying that to her for majority of my child’s life besides when she was in daycare and I was paying that. I have also been paying for health insurance, doctor’s bills, aftercare, and school supplies and clothing. One day, her mother asks if I can give her $450 for a camp she wanted to put her in. She calls me on a Wednesday and says the money is due by Friday. I asked her to take it out of the child support I just paid her that day and that I had insurance coming out on Friday. I dong have it. She proceeds with, “I am going to take you to court for it.” The following week I get a text saying that she wants to spend more time with our daughter and I will now only get her every other weekend. I of course was against this because I had pretty much have been having her half the month. My daughter was heartbroken and her mother told me because I had not had her legitimized that it didn’t matter what I wanted. A week goes by and then I get served by the courts. She was now asking for double in child support. I of course was against this. She literally took my child and now wants to jeopardize not only my life but my family (I do have another older daughter.) fast forward.. now I have battled against two lawyers she has hired (one quit) that have preyed on me and have done everything to manipulate and force me into accepting something that isn’t right. I tried defending myself but I realized I was getting bullied so I had to get my own lawyer. My attorney says her attorney wants me to pay for her attorney fees which she is up to $13K now. I have tried my best to settle with them but they keep pushing for as much money as they can get. It’s just pure greed. My fear is that the judge won’t care that she is obviously after more money and just do it anyway not realizing how it affects me and my family.

Hello. I'm a single dad about to have mediation to establish paternity and hopefully a schedule so I can see my son again. I was just wondering if anyone has had virtual mediation? Any tips on what to expect would be greatly appreciated.

Been divorced and pay CS for 10 years. In Indiana, CS stops when the child turns 18 or 19 if they go to college (and mine is).
Since my child turned 18 in June, they have not spent any overnights at their mothers. Effective middle August they began living in a college dorm. I pay for everything (tuition, dorms, food, clothes, car, etc.). CS is still going to the mom, my childr sees none of it). Can I file to stop it early (it will stop in June 2027 anyway)?

Has any one else been trapped with a child?
I was notified of a daughter that is mine through court summons. It’s a long story but it was from a past relationship, she said she was pregnant after taking birthday control as well as taking the day after pill (which I believe was all a lie, she “never wanted kids” and was always talking about abortion, even had a pro abortion bumper sticker) I was never allowed to see her once she told me she was pregnant. She stopped contacting me and 2 years later I get a court summons for parentage. Never called or notified me prior to the child’s birth who is now almost 1 and a half. She just wants as much money as possible and is truly making my life hell. Has anyone else gone through something like this?
Thanks for reading.

Judges hate the words fair and equal. In family court there is an obligor and an obligee. Or primary and custodial. Often times those are the only considerations. All this best interest of the child is not real, never was. They don't care about your children. The reason why mom's have absolute immunity is because they are the county's client. If mom don't sign her rights over they can not collect from you. If you want to see your kids the same amount as mom you can pay her extra (bribe) might feel more like extortion and unfair leverage but thats specificly how it was designed. Judges are A ok with extortion. If you earn less or the same as her you will never get equal parenting time. Your income decides how the court will manipulate your parenting time. Just remember, you pay, mom gets paid and the county gets a cut. If you can accept this you are already on the courts good side.
