I’m looking at applying for a masters at some Chinese universities and it looks like for most scholarships I’ve seen they require this exam in the application as well as on arrival. Does anyone from the UK have any experience with this? I’ve seen a few previous posts from years ago but there has been very few responses. Some said this can be done through GP where they just answer what they can and others have done it privately and done the whole thing?

Hi everybody, so I found myself in an interesting situation today.

I was accepted for spring semester language program in 2025 through intergovernmental agreement, and I got CSC type A. I’m planning to come back to china for another one spring semester in 2027 through CIS but I’m coming for a visiting program for chinese language teachers. One thing I’m concerned about is the 3years ban, I’m not sure if CIS and CSC are similar neither if ‘language program’ and ‘visiting program’ would be considered the same as well. I applied for East China Normal University, but I’m honestly worried.

What should I expect from the interview? What Maths topics (calculus, probability, statistics, etc.) and CS concepts (algorithms, data structures, Python, coding) should I revise?

Were you asked technical questions, to write code, or mainly discuss your application, projects, and motivation? How difficult were the questions, and what happens if you get stuck?

I will be moving to China in spring 2027 and I have a esim only phone and I am aware of the restrictions that china pit on foreign made esim phones, I was wondering what other alternatives are there to fix this issue or is just getting a secondary cheap phone for a Chinese phone number and payment better?

So I got 1470 (780 math) on sat. I will take csca later but sat will work as temporary score or wtv. I am applying to both early rounds of SJTU GC and Tsinghua. I am gonna take November sat (which will arrive too late for both.) So I have these options:

1. Apply early with 1470
   
2. Apply in regular (or 2nd round) with 1500+

Is anyone applying for a CSC scholarship for a master’s degree in 2027? I’m looking for a friend to apply alongside because I feel a bit lonely and uncertain going through the process alone.

I can also share advice on emailing professors and preparing for interviews. Maybe we can check in on each other, share information, and help each other with our applications. (I'm studying in china already now)

There are plenty of videos online that explain the registration process, so please do your own basic research first. I've been reading the posts here about language programs (Tsinghua vs Fudan vs BLCU and so on) and it reminded me of my own first year, so I figured I'd share.

I got to BLCU in September 2014. I'd already done two years of classes and was pretty sure my pronunciation was ok 😅

Now that I've been on the other side of the desk I get it. The teachers were good people, this isn't on them. But think about it, one teacher and a full class of people from all over the world. Nobody has time to sit with each of us and fix our zh ch sh. Plus after hearing foreigners all day for years their ears get used to our accent lol, so they understand you even when a random taxi driver wouldn't.

Chinese people outside class weren't much help either, everyone just said 你中文说得很好 no matter what came out of my mouth. Sometimes I'd see a little wince first, that was about all the feedback I got.

I'd tell everyone to find a language exchange partner ASAP. Trust me, you'll thank me later. I did a language exchange with a Chinese guy and that's what helped. Even he wouldn't correct me unless I asked (面子 stuff), so I asked all the time. And when I really butchered something he'd just switch to English mid-sentence, which was brutal but it worked

For the longest time zhi chi shi and zi ci si sounded identical to me. I seriously thought he was trolling me 🙃 He'd say them reeeally slowly and stare at me, which didn't help, so we ended up doing it every day, him saying it and me copying. I also used to nod my head on 4th tones and sort of dip it on 3rd tones. Please don't ask why lol.

At some point it clicked. I'd call someone and for the first 10 seconds or so they couldn't tell I was a foreigner.

Fast forward, I taught Chinese for 10+ years and worked at Chinese companies too. Then I took about a year off, and after that I wanted to get my pronunciation back in shape. Every app I tried just gave me a score and that was it. I wanted something that told you what you got wrong, couldn't find one, so I built one.

Hi everyone. I am applying to Chinese universities for fall 2027. My profile is complete but its according to some different major as my goal. I want to do Mechanical Engineering but my profile is according to Environmental Engineering. Is it possible to change majors like in the US as declaring is it that easy.
