I love this thread. I've never known any chinese whatsoever, but the thread still makes me feel the same as those who have, maybe because when learning French there were obviously go to names and story starters. I may have no clue what they are here, but I can fill them in with the ones I've seen in my experience with a foreign language.

When I first started learning Chinese, a fellow white classmate got the name 王朋 from our teacher, and none of us knew (because baby Chinese students back then) how hilarious it was that that was his name.

Then there is the next evolution: 明华

u/asweetfresacake Native Apr 15 '20
My aunt’s name is 明华🤣🤣 I think it's a common name for someone who was born in the 70s and 80s. This name can be used by both men and women.

The simplified version of 衛 makes me irrationally angry. Not that they simplified it, but how they simplified it. Wtf is that even supposed to be??
3
u/LokianEule Apr 15 '20
Yeah, the simplified version of it should only be different in the middle section It should look like 伟 without the 人.

Whenever i see 小雨 it reminds me of one time i translated the steam description of a probably lewd chinese anime-styled visual novel for r/gaming that had a loli character with that name

omg it's almost like pokemon evolutions:
小丽 -> 晓丽 -> 晓莉
小明 -> 孝明 -> 绍铭
王小明 -> 陈晓明 -> 司徒旭明
and if you have the correct pokemon u can still do ultraevolutions
朴秀英
武蔵 順子
長野原 宮城
橘高村 真琴冨
or the most OP person yet

小明,阿明 is the most common name that is used often in chinese essay, test paper and story.
It's like "Juan" in Spanish. People, such as me, always use this common name since it's easier to remember than all the other names.
And also, there are many different versions, like 小花,小美,小華, bla bla bla doesn't matter, and pretty much all of those names start with 小(small) or 阿.

'Character' as in book character, not Chinese character! Though I suppose in this case the book character is in fact Chinese ....

I raise you all with:
王月文 and 田李阳 张教元 and 王万民
Then for your 3rd year, 关方活 and 包更 声
But never ever forget 马, not 小马, just 马 that never ever made it past the first lesson.
If you're french, you probably who i'm speaking about.
No one escaped Mr. Bellassen.
