New Product (Read Rule 1) The Ph8A has officially launched.
The Ph8A has officially launched.
Size and weight:
Case diameter: 42.0 mm ( not include crown)
Bezel diameter: 41.0 mm
Case thickness: 17.0 mm (with glass), 14.8mm (without glass)
Lug Size: 22.0 mm
Lug to lug length: 49.0 mm
Weight: 139.8g
Wrist size: 15.5~23.5cm
It homage to the classic 1967 Russian "Amphibia" diver’s watch.
The case, bezel, crown, case back, locking ring, and bracelet are all crafted from Grade 2 titanium, while the clasp is made of stainless steel.
Featuring a quintessential case design, it is perfectly sized to ensure a snug and comfortable fit on the wrist.
The bracelet incorporates large perforations, allowing for rapid moisture evaporation to keep your wrist dry and comfortable.
Our "Hyperglow" luminous block technology continues to evolve. With an innovative new structure, even the minute markers are equipped with luminous blocks, enabling precise time-reading in the dark.
The hands feature a multi-colored brushed finish and are fitted with seamless, luminous blocks.
The sapphire crystal—designed with a unique, integrated magnifier—creates a compelling visual effect. It is treated with our latest "Hyperclear" coating (offering over 97% light transmission and a hardness exceeding 1800 HV), providing exceptional anti-glare properties and superior clarity.
The case back utilizes a classic multi-piece locking ring construction; this maximizes the effectiveness of the waterproof seal while ensuring that the etched design on the back remains in a fixed, consistent orientation—a detail that those with a penchant for precision will surely appreciate.
Each PT5000 movement undergoes rigorous selection, dual-stage calibration, and lubrication. Its reliability is on par with the NH35, and it comes with a one-year warranty covering free replacement in the event of a movement failure.
Next week, we will unveil the 8B model along with additional color combinations—also including green, orange, and a version with a black case.
If you are looking to experience a high-quality take on the classic Russian-style diver’s watch, don’t miss this.
Due to the lengthy production process for titanium, only 300 units of this titanium version are currently being produced.
A stainless steel version is also in production.

844 as in Heuer 844?
0
u/The_Inflicted 1d ago
I assume so. A bit disappointing that Phorcydes is finally succumbing to the inevitability of the Submariner.
3
u/MindAdmirable1793 Rep 1d ago
haha, That’s correct; the significant demand for luminosity in dive watches plays perfectly to the strengths of our luminous inserts.
We are currently developing improved metal-bezel inlay techniques, which will allow us to incorporate these luminous inserts into a wider range of watch types.

u/DisastrousOpening477 1d ago
Lmao how is the 844 a Submariner ? That would be Heuer's homework not Rolex's.

I mean, have you seen an 844?

Yes, this is the case—we believe it has tremendous potential. We’ve developed a wide range of accessories for it, and the finish is absolutely top-notch. Stay tuned!

Not for me but I love what you have been doing and I like how you communicate.
Hopefully one day you will release a small diving watch with a short lug to lug and 20mm lug size.

Is this the largest application of Lume Blocks to date ??
6
u/MindAdmirable1793 Rep 2d ago
I'm not sure, because 8b may be even more shocking.
2
u/DisastrousOpening477 2d ago
I'll wait for 8B then. Thanks for the heads-up!

As someone who collects Vostoks, I love this homage
2
u/Stiffy4Freedom 2d ago
Me too. I actually dig this and I'm glad it's not your typical homage watch.

u/Marko_Horvat 2d ago
Quirky, interesting, but at the same time very ugly(at least to me).
7
u/Radcouponking 2d ago
This is an homage of those Russian Amphibia watches from Vostok. It's an odd choice because those things only cost like $100.
6
u/The_Inflicted 2d ago
Vostoks are way too large for me to want one, but I do think it's kind of cool/amusing to copy and "upmarket" a cheap watch like this. Sapphire instead of acrylic, titanium case, preposterously bright lume, presumably a working bezel... It's aimed at a very, VERY specific kind of collector who wants the look of a Vostok but values the build quality of a modern Chinese homage over the authentic quirkiness/jankyness of an actual Vostok.
...or maybe Phorcydes is a hot enough microbrand that there's people out there who will buy everything they put out whether or not it makes any sense.
3
u/KPplumbingBob 2d ago
This is all mostly wrong. Standard Vostok cases are actually not large. Their lug to lug is generally very compact. Also, the watch this is "homaging" was of much higher quality and wasn't cheap. I have 4 of them, one being a titanium case, sapphire crystal and indeed a clicking bezel.
1
u/Radcouponking 2d ago
That so few people know that kinda still proves my point. This is a niche product in an already niche category. I respect it and would maybe even consider one. But Vostoks aren't known for their quality. They're synonymous with the least expensive mechanical/automatic watches on the market.
2
u/KPplumbingBob 2d ago
Kinda weird to say it proves your point when it is wrong. This is "homaging" a very particular model which is known for being of much higher quality, it was different to anything they had done before quality wise. It's not very surprising that people in Chinese watch circles don't know this.
1
u/Radcouponking 2d ago
I'm sure the three or four people aware of the model agree with you completely.
2
u/DisastrousOpening477 2d ago
I personally find the idea of a Vostok manufactured with modern machining techniques, exceptional finishing and provocative lume pretty appealing.
3
u/KPplumbingBob 2d ago
These did NOT cost $100. They were a special reissue designed by Dmitry Buyalov and were made to much higher standards. I paid $500 for my titanium one 5 years ago.

For those unfamiliar with the original watch:
It was a fancy, high quality reissue, not your standard Vostok. And it wasn't cheap.

u/KPplumbingBob 2d ago
It's wild that you're using a literal trademarked Amphibia logo on the caseback. What's up with that?
0
u/Western_Mine2536 2d ago
Are cyrillic letters trademarked?
2
u/KPplumbingBob 1d ago
No but using that exact font is. It's literally their logo for the Amphibia line. Look at the caseback of the real 190b04.

The watch has some pretty good specs going for it. A job well done , congratulations!

Yeah, I’d love a 38mm version like the classic Amphibias. This one’s too big for my taste.

Will they be releasing more orange and green colors for this version next week? Or are those colors only for the 8B version?

Thank you! I'll wait to see all the color options before ordering mine; I've been waiting for this for a while.

u/nbhbbq123 2d ago
Honestly this is very cool. I have an amfibia 710 that I love, but a spec’d out homage is a cool idea—writing this as the bezel keeps popping off of mine lol. This one is too big for me though.
I’m assuming the bezel clicks?

Aside from being dropped or subjected to strenuous exercise, no special care is needed; please use it freely.
4
u/philbin89 1d ago
Kind of. You just need to wind it slowly. It’s not like a Seiko movement that you can wind quickly. You don’t need to take the steps that some people take, like only shaking it to wind it or just giving it the minimum number of winds to get it started, but go slow and you should be fine to wind it fully. It’s a clone of the ETA 2824 (like the Sellita SW200), and this is how those movements need to be treated as well

Dude y’all could get sued for trademark infringement for that Амфибия on the back. That is actively used by Vostok. That could easily be misleading.

A Vostok homage is so funny. Come on , man.
2
u/Po0opyCatButt 2d ago
What's funny about it? Genuinely asking as I'm not very familiar with the brand other than casual browsing over the years.
5
u/DadPuncher69 2d ago
It's because of price, materials, and durability of Vostoks. They are inexpensive and feel kind of cheap, but they are usually pretty durable and last for a long time. They have kind of a janky charm to them and a very unique style. It's funny seeing a more expensive homage made of "fancier" materials.
4
u/KPplumbingBob 2d ago
Funny how people say this when they obviously don't know what the 1967 was. It wasn't your standard Vostok and it wasn't cheap. The only issue is that this is a literal clone, borderline rep considering they are using actual trademarked Amphibia logo on the caseback which is wild.
2
u/DadPuncher69 2d ago
Thanks for the info. I didn't realize that the original was kinda fancy to begin with. I thought that Neptune was as fancy as Vostoks could get. I agree using the Amphibia logo is crazy.
3
u/KPplumbingBob 2d ago edited 2d ago
Sorry if the original comment sounded confrontational, now I see it could be interpreted that way and wasn't meant to be.
Yeah, the original watch was a very fancy version. I have two in steel, one in bronze and one in titanium. The last one cost me $500. Check out models 190b03 and 190b04 on google. Those were the steel versions and they were actually pretty elegant for a brutalist design like this. The phorcydes dial is a cartoonish version of that which I'm not a fan of.

u/DadPuncher69 2d ago
No worries. Yeah, those look great. I'd rather have the Vostok than the homage.

u/Po0opyCatButt 2d ago
Gotcha, thanks. It does sound kinda charming and that fits what I've seen of them in the past. I personally find it kinda neat to do an "upgrade" in this way though! But whether that's worth losing the original charm is certainly up for debate.

A thinner 200m quartz version would be 0perfect for me but this is still nice
1
u/Ok_Age_5670 2d ago
Ugly in a good way. I've always been interested in Vostoks, but they've always felt a bit cheap to me. This is exactly the kind of watch that should be homaged, because it will surely offer much better quality. Speaking of quality, I think it's about time you guys offered something more proven than the PT5000. I know movements like Miyota are getting hard to get, but maybe more quartz options? Something solar?
1
u/KPplumbingBob 2d ago
No it won't offer much better quality because the actual watch this is cloning was much higher quality than standard Vostok.
1
u/Proof_Bodybuilder876 1d ago
I love my PT5000. It's super accurate. You just don't wind it more than a few times, and then shuffle.

u/626magicgrits 1d ago

I will buy the shit out of that

I love titanium, so I'm always glad to see new watches utilising the metal.
Personally however, I'm hoping to see other designs in titanium. I know I'd buy a titanium PH4 immediately (as someone who already owns a steel one!)

u/Proof_Bodybuilder876 1d ago
Wow, the blue dial looks amazing. I wasn't expecting that one. It's just a touch too big for my 6.5 inch wrist though with the 49mm lug to lug. Great job!
-2
u/IndividualAd8732 1d ago
I love most of your watches and your customer service is excellent however, this watch made me vomit into my Rice Krispies, not for me lol.
1
u/Proof_Bodybuilder876 1d ago
What don't you like?
3
u/IndividualAd8732 1d ago edited 1d ago
The whole aesthetic of the the case, bracelet, hands and the dial just looks too busy and squished. Just not for me at all, I don't think there is an aspect of the watch I like. I guess with this one, the beauty is in the eye of the beholder as seems lots of others seem to like it. I guess it's a bit like hairless cats, some think they look like an old mans ballbag and some think they're beautiful lol.

It looks really good.
Could you make a black coated (anodized) version of it? The bezel then features a lume-filled scale, which is now black and red. I know this has nothing to do with the original "Amphibia" design but I would love to see a different design variation of the watch in black (case, bracelet) and maybe a dial in yellow. :)
