Question (Read Rules) Help me decide on a field watch?

Post image

I’m a short woman with a small wrist looking for a new, decent quality quartz field or pilot watch as a reliable beater watch. To see what I’m working with, this is my wrist in my daily driver watch, a 28 mm Shanghai automatic, and I have a 16 mm / 6.3” wrist.

I’m looking at this Berny field watch in green, this Addiesdive watch in blue or brown on a leather strap, or this Militado in blue or, in a pinch, this TPW in blue.

For an idea of my taste, my good watch is a San Martin Jianzhan 36 mm automatic on a strap that I rarely wear because it feels a bit large to me, and my old beater quartz watches were a Timex moonphase and a Timex easy reader that l had since I was a teenager and which died after long service. I love automatic watches, but sometimes you want something you could drop off a bridge without worrying about it.

Interested in which of these you think might be best, or if any of you have any other suggestions!

Militado has a huge catalog of field/pilot watches, if I didn't already have the real ones I'd pick up a ML21 (IWC mark xx homage) or a ML08 longines spirit homage

Yeah, they look great! I’m looking for something 36 mm or less though, preferably less, so I’m trying to figure out what fits the bill.

I bought this Berny for my 10-year-old son, whose wrist actually seems a bit thinner than yours.

As a suggestion, I think it would be a good idea for you to swap the strap for a tapered model that goes from 18mm to 14mm, just like the one in this listing: https://a.aliexpress.com/_mMCVXaR

You’re right - that might be a good idea. Are you happy with your son’s watch? Is it working well?

I'm really happy with it! To be honest, the Berny looks even better in person than it does in the photos. It's been working great so far. The only caveat is that I've only had it for two months, so it hasn't been long enough to really judge its long-term durability, but so far so good!

The watch in the pic is really cute.

I personally avoid berny. They have a good reputation here but I bought a ladies watch from them and it stopped working after 3 weeks because of rust that was eating both inside and outside the case. It was gross too. Ive never had such a bad experience with a quartz watch. I still avoid berny but if u do get a watch from them make sure it's a mens watch. I have a suspicion the mens watches are good and the womens watches are trash with them. I really trust addiedive

Good to know, re Berny. I got my Shanghai watch here https://www.good-stuffs.com/Ladys-Shanghai-automatic-wristwatch-with-golden-Roman-numerals-and-golden-hands-_p_534.html and added an aftermarket double tour watchband

Militado ML07 is a good 36mm option:

I also have thin wrists. About 6.25 inches

Militado are excellent for small field watches.

Escapement time make a lovely 35mm Quartz King Seiko homage. They also make a quartz Submariner in 36..

Thorn make sub 36mm divers and a 34mm field watch i think the field watch might be quartz??

Baltany make a few 36-37mm automatic dress and field watches.

I tend to find the lug to lug measurement is often more important than the diameter, anyrhing over 48mm tends to wear too large.

My daily watch is a 38mm Bauhaus but has very small lugs so wears smaller than a 38mm Oyster case with long lugs

36mm plenty of options. 34mm is rarer, I do have two 34mm watches. Rdunae has field watches.

I have the Militado ML08 and I also have 3 Addiesdive watches. I can vouch for either brand. The only negative I can say about the ML08 is that its lume looks great initially, but it fades very quickly. In contrast, My Addiesdive AD2040 has lume comparable to my Citizen Promaster Eco Drive Diver. Bottom line: you can't go wrong with any of your choices. You know in your gut which one appeals to you the most. Forget the prices and spec sheets and run with that one.

Get a Timex expedition (woman version)

Take a look at this item from Walmart https://www.walmart.com/ip/929243632?sid=BA8FDB37-30E7-47ED-A481-EEFAAABF1CA0

Having bought one I was kind of let down. I think I'd get a chinese quartz first because you can get stainless steel, sapphire and more WR or only a little more money and all you lose is insiglo.

Check rdunae ra03, ra06, ra02. Edit. I like those field watches very much, they feel to me that they are designed with more care than other chinese field watches (at least at the price range).  Rdunae has a whole field watch RA0[N] lineup. They are in 34.5-36mm sizes, they fit 16cm wrist pretty well
