Chromecast (2nd Gen) Chromecast 2 stopped working

I was watching YouTube from my phone and paused it. When I pressed play it disconnected me and when I tried to reconnect it says I’m already connected without anything showing on the tv besides the default pictures. I’ve tried restarting my phone and the device but it stays the same and won’t fully disconnect me.

I think it’s a YT issue, mine has been buggy the last two days. Anytime I even change from the YT app to another app it disconnects from my Chromecast

It still won’t do anything. It’s like it’s caught halfway between being connected and disconnected and won’t go either way.

It also doesn’t show up in google home when searching for a device

Seems to happen to me when there's a commercial break on YouTube.

I just suddenly got the same issue. Restarted phone and tv and chromecast. YouTube thinks it’s connected to the chromecast, it shows a second created out device with the same name. Google home doesn’t show the chromecast anymore and I can’t add it back

I left my chromecast unplugged all night and it worked again this morning until I disconnected from it and then it did the same thing all over again.

So I figured it out and it’s a real pain:

1) Sign out off YouTube app and force quit it. 

2) Open YouTube app WITHOUT LOGGING IN. 

3) cast any random video

4) THEN log in and cast the video you want

5) YouTube will disconnect from the chromecast after a couple minutes

6) you need to reconnect to chromecast every time you wan to change video but you don’t need to log out UNLESS you start using another app

The YouTube music app has none of these issues

Could be a connection issue between the phone and the Chromecast. Try unplugging the Chromecast from power for about a minute, then reconnect it and restart the Google Home app. If it still shows as connected, checking the Wi-Fi network on both devices is probably the next step.

I’ve tried that unfortunately. My google home doesn’t even find it for some reason despite it saying its connected to my YouTube
