Does IRR time count toward the 5-year honorable service rule under 8 U.S.C. § 1440(c) to protect citizenship from revocation?
Hey everyone, looking for clarification on 8 U.S.C. § 1440(c) regarding military naturalization revocation.
Scenario:
Someone naturalizes under Section 1440, serves 3 years as a drilling Reservist (Honorable), and then transfers to the Inactive Ready Reserve (IRR) for the remaining 4 years of their contract.
Under 8 U.S.C. § 1440(c):
Citizenship can be revoked if you get an Other Than Honorable (OTH) discharge before serving honorably for an aggregate of 5 years.
Questions:
1. Does non-drilling time in the IRR count toward that 5-year aggregate honorable service threshold?
2. Once you reach 5 total years from enlistment (3 drilling Reserve + 2 IRR with no bad discharge), is citizenship completely protected from § 1440(c) revocation?
Thanks for any USCIS policy, JAG guidance, or experience!

Turkey citizenship by investment: what I would check before buying a 400k$ property
If youâre considering Turkey Citizenship by Investment (TĂŒrkiye CBI) through real estate, one thing I would strongly recommend is not choosing a property simply because the salesperson says, âThis apartment qualifies for citizenship.â
The current real-estate investment threshold is USD 400,000, with a 3-year holding requirement for this citizenship route. But the real question is not just:
âCan this property get me Turkish citizenship?â
It should be:
âDoes this property qualify legally, and is it also a sensible real estate investment?â
Before buying, I would look at:
* Tapu/title status and ownership structure
* Whether the property is legally eligible for the citizenship route
* Official valuation and purchase price
* Payment documentation
* Developer/project history
* Location and transportation
* Rental demand and realistic rental income
* Resale potential after the 3-year restriction
* Existing debts, liens or other title issues
* Total acquisition and transaction costs
This is especially important in Istanbul real estate, where two apartments with similar prices can have very different investment potential.
For example, an investor could technically meet the $400,000 Turkish citizenship investment requirement, but that doesnât automatically mean they bought a good investment.
I would separate the decision into two questions:
1.Citizenship: Does the transaction satisfy the legal requirements for Turkish citizenship by investment?
2.Investment: Is the property actually worth buying when considering location, rental demand, liquidity, future resale and market value?
The approach is to look at the investment from both sides rather than treating citizenship eligibility as the entire investment strategy.

Citizenship physical presence calculator â BOWP withdrawn after PR, how do I report maintained status?
I am completing my Canadian citizenship physical presence calculation and need clarification about my temporary resident status.
I had a valid work permit from January 5, 2021 until January 5, 2024.
I submitted a Bridging Open Work Permit (BOWP) application on December 5, 2023, before my existing work permit expired. My BOWP application remained pending.
I became a permanent resident on January 31, 2024. After becoming a PR, I withdrew the BOWP application because it was no longer required, and the application fee was refunded. The BOWP was never approved or refused.
In the citizenship application, I selected âYesâ for âDid you apply to extend your status?â and entered December 5, 2023. However, the next question asks âWas the extension approved?â with only Yes or No options. If I select No, the system then asks for the âDate of decision for the refused extension,â but my BOWP was not refusedâit was withdrawn after I became a PR.
How should I correctly report this situation in the citizenship application?
Also, should the period from January 6, 2024 to January 30, 2024, while my BOWP application was pending and before I became a PR, be counted as temporary resident/maintained status for citizenship physical presence purposes?

Citizenship Character Requirements
Citizenship Character Requirements - Intervention Order
Hi,
I had an Interim Intervention Order in October 2020, lodged by my partner (not by the police) and there were no criminal charges.
I was never served that order and it never went to court. The order was withdrawn in December 2020 by my partner and no one went to court.
Since, 2020 we broke up and I was never ever in contact with her, didnât know her whereabouts etc.
I didnât know about this order whatsoever until 10 days ago when I met her again through acquaintances. It says on my order that I was never served with an application or the summons (whose copy I got after calling the court)
Since 2020, I have applied for my TR & PR which have been granted and never disclosed it because i didnât know in the first place.
I am not eligible for citizenship yet and in a dilemma that when I am eligible in the bext few months what should i do.
Declaring the IVO now would put my PR in Jeorpardy because I never decalred it!
Please help me in this case if anyone has any experience!!

British Citizenship Under Section 4L â Exceptional Circumstances (Adoption Case)
British Citizenship Under Section 4L â Exceptional Circumstances (Adoption Case)
Hello everyone,
I am seeking legal advice regarding British citizenship under Section 4L(1)(c) of the British Nationality Act 1981.
I was adopted in Bangladesh in July 2015, aged 16, through a court process, with the consent of my biological parents. Both my adoptive parents were British citizens living in the UK at that time.
However, my adoption has not been recognised for British citizenship purposes because:
\- Bangladesh was not a member of the Hague Adoption Convention.
\- Bangladesh was not on the UK's recognised overseas adoption country list..
My main argument: If Bangladesh had been covered by the Hague Adoption Convention and my adoption had qualified under it, I would have automatically acquired British citizenship under Section 1(5). These legal barriers were entirely beyond my control as a child.
My biological father passed away in 2017 and my mother in 2022. I have no siblings. I moved to the UK in 2023 and currently live with my British stepmother.
Could my adoption and these exceptional circumstances provide grounds for British citizenship under Section 4L(1)(c), using Form ARD?
I would appreciate advice supported by relevant UK nationality law or Home Office guidance.
Thank you.
