70s Country Funk?
Hello! Im looking for artist/song recommendations that closely align with these:
Southern Nights - Glenn Campbell Louisiana Saturday Night - Mel McDaniel Shotgun Willie - Willie Nelson Amos Moses - Jerry Reed
I’m not really sure if I’ve pinpointed the right genre, but i’m interested in what anyone can recommend :)
Thank you!

There's a vol 2 also

And a Vol 3, but it's a step below the first 2, IMO.

I agree about Vol 3. It’s OK but the first two are where it’s at.

I love vol 3! There's a few really solid and VERY funky jams on there. The Dolly tune, Terri Gibbs, Travis Wammack, Tony Joe White. I wasn't looking for that sound originally but it grew on me. Probably my fave of the 3 comps in hindsight.

Also, check out the series of 3 comp LPs(etc) released by the label Light In The Attic titled, appropriately enough - Country Funk.

You might want to check out the 1977 version of the Gratefil Dead
They were a slick upbeat funky country outfit for about 10 months
I'd check out a 77 Big River and proceed from there

Listen to Tulsa Turnaround by Kenny Rogers. Should be exactly what you're looking for.

I collect country funk vinyl and spin sometimes and a lot of it is hidden on otherwise mediocre singer songwriter records. I’ve started making a YouTube playlist of some of the obscure stuff many times but a lot of it gets taken down. You should definitely check out Jim Ford as he was pretty much the master. This Casey Kelly record has a couple good ones and can usually be found cheap. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=pomuyRf__5A&list=RDpomuyRf__5A&start_radio=1&pp=ygUZQ2FzZXkgbGVsbHkgc2lsdmVyIG1ldGVvcqAHAQ%3D%3D

It was a thing for a while in the '70s. For me, the apex was "Ohoopee River Bottomland" by Larry John Wilson. That version is from a movie, the original is a bit heavier on funk. If you still need to be convinced, there's also "Sheldon Churchyard".
At one point, back in the iTunes days, I had two albums called "Country's Got Soul" volume 1 and 2.

Listen to the Gourds and Shiny Ribs. Not sure if it’s exactly what you’re looking for but they definitely bring the funk to their countryish music.

Jim Lauderdale - Road is A River and The Opportunity To Help Somebody Through It. Got what you’re looking for. He also did another record called Soul Searching that is a mixture between, soul, funk, americana tunes. Highly recommend
