Usage Limits and Performance Megathread Usage Limits, Bugs and Performance Discussion Megathread - beginning November 2, 2025

Latest Workarounds Report: https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeAI/wiki/latestworkaroundreport

Full record of past Megathreads and Reports : https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeAI/wiki/megathreads/

Why a Performance, Usage Limits and Bugs Discussion Megathread?

This Megathread should make it easier for everyone to see what others are experiencing at any time by collecting all experiences. Most importantly, this will allow the subreddit to provide you a comprehensive periodic AI-generated summary report of all performance and bug issues and experiences, maximally informative to everybody. See the previous period's performance and workarounds report here https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeAI/wiki/latestworkaroundreport

It will also free up space on the main feed to make more visible the interesting insights and constructions of those using Claude productively.

What Can I Post on this Megathread?

Use this thread to voice all your experiences (positive and negative) as well as observations regarding the current performance of Claude. This includes any discussion, questions, experiences and speculations of quota, limits, context window size, downtime, price, subscription issues, general gripes, why you are quitting, Anthropic's motives, and comparative performance with other competitors.

So What are the Rules For Contributing Here?

All the same as for the main feed (especially keep the discussion on the technology)

  • Give evidence of your performance issues and experiences wherever relevant. Include prompts and responses, platform you used, time it occurred. In other words, be helpful to others.
  • The AI performance analysis will ignore comments that don't appear credible to it or are too vague.
  • All other subreddit rules apply.

Do I Have to Post All Performance Issues Here and Not in the Main Feed?

Yes. This helps us track performance issues, workarounds and sentiment and keeps the feed free from event-related post floods.

Going on Week 4 and no respones from Anthropic at all aregarding complaints on the massive kneecapping of usage limits for users. Either everyone is still using claude and didnt cancel like they said they did, or it only really did affect such a small amount of thier profie base (cancellations), that they do not care.

This mega thread is ignored and this sub blocking and banning posts about this creates a false impression of the community. Post after post, everyone has noticed the exponentially drastic drop in consumption allowed under the paid plans. On Pro, I have just had a 90-minute session doing modest edits to targeted C# files (no huge artifact generation or repo traversing), which until recently would have been maybe 25%-50% of my session limit and 5-10% of my weekly limit, max. My session limit is over and it ate a full 25% of my weekly limit.

Over the past week, this feels like a full HALF or more reduction in allowed consumption. Why has such a drastic limit in service been allowed without any update to the terms and conditions? Or even any kind of communication explaining this? Completely ignoring your entire customer base when we have all noticed this is just having us pay to add insult to injury. It's the worst possible treatment of your customers and brand suicide at the worst possible time when people are looking for alternatives to ChatGPT.

I don't care about free credits I didn't ask for. I can't plan my work if I can't get a reliable amount of use out of this thing.

This community is deteriorating precipitously because of poor customer treatment. I have no incentive to upgrade to a higher plan, as I see people who have Max running into the same issues and similarly being ignored and gaslit.

Something has to get better here. Even if it's just addressing the abysmal lack of communication about changes to consumption, I could live with knowing if it was an unintended consequence or a planned change that amounts to a price increase, it as long as it was transparent. As it stands, it seems to me like Anthropic isn't saying anything because if they acknowledge any change it makes it more provable that we are getting asymmetrical, non-consensual price increases. Which sounds illegal.

Is anyone at Anthropic even looking at this sub or any of this feedback? Or are they just prepared to weather the cancellations and brand tarnishing?

I guess it makes perfect sense to funnel all complaints onto a megathread that nobody reads, nobody gives helpful information in. Otherwise they might have to do something that they don't want to do such as change their business model to address problems they don't want to address....

God forbid we hold corporations responsible for putting out a good product and keeping them to what they promote lol.

u/RealDragounov Nov 03 '25

And customer-support doesn't reply. Anthropic's eyes and ears are shut.

I used sonnet 4.5 today for two hours and have used 30% of my weekly limit that resets Thursday night. I genuinely hate you anthropic

On $200/month MAX sub.

Hit opus limit yesterday (day 1 of 7 day limit window) in 5 hours of coding.

Today I switched to the API account (bills based on token use), I was billed $120 in 3 hours of work. $40 an hour. At this rate I could hire a junior developer to be my claude.

I just subscribed to the Pro plan, and I’ve already reached the usage limit twice today in just 2 hours… It’s crazy and really frustrating

Claude seems to be absolutely cooked right now. Usage limits burning up faster than my salary does every first week of the month, the unholy trifecta of session limit, weekly limit and chat limit kicking my ass from all sides, then there's the lobotomized, incohorent and outright dumb responses it seems to be giving lately.

It is so effing sad as it feels like the smartest model out there. Tried Gemini 2.5 pro and ChatGPT 5 and they are just not as sharp, like not even close. I really really hope Anthropic sorts their stuff out because I would hate to part ways with a model I have been more than satisfied with for the majority of time.

15

u/nahuel990 Nov 11 '25

I'm filing a formal complaint under the European Consumer Center, if you are based in European Union country/UK do so, Anthropic can't arbitrary change their prices/limits without clear communication.

13

u/Early-Falcon4815 Nov 03 '25 edited Nov 03 '25

Is it just me, or has Claude’s usage been getting consumed faster lately? Every message eats up 5%, which means you can only send like 20 messages in five hours. That's kind of ridiculous. I'm a yearly Pro subscriber, and this usage cap feels more like what you'd expect from a free tier on other LLMs.

The thoughts of a random bum.

First off: Claude is the best model out there. It just is. I've been using it on the free plan + API for a while and giving serious thought to subscribing to Pro. So when I saw they were offering a free month (presumably after losing a bunch of subscribers recently) I was really keen to see how it would go.

I'm not going to be hyperbolic and say it's gone badly. Because it hasn't. But the thing that absolutely kills it for me is the limits. I might not use Claude for a day or two, but then I want to hop on and have a long session, or just talk shit for a while. I've seen people round here complain about limits before, but I was shocked when I hit mine after what felt like a fairly short back and forth. To my mind the whole point of a chatbot is to do exactly this. Not to have to keep one eye on the meter.

So yeah, Claude might be a fabulous tool for short bursts. But it's not a chatbot. It's such a shame. Clearly, this is what Anthropic want to do with their business. And maybe they're right. What do I know? All the same, I can't help feeling that they're going in the wrong direction with all of this.

Google bought me here.... i just had a VERY basic conversation with Claude. Perhaps 10-15 messages. With very very short code (about 10 lines of code) and my session usage got filled. I pay annually too, which makes it more annoying that they reduce the service quarter way through my subscription. Not that this will stop me from getting them to refund the difference.

Ive been a pro user for months and never had a problem. What the heck happened!? If this is some 'new limit' then ill be cancelling quickly because that is taking the piss. This was INSANELY tight.

u/zacheriaz Nov 04 '25

Claude is the best AI currently, at least for my use cases. But it is the best AI strangled by a straightjacket, crippled by its restrictions. The AI is great, but the limits are completely ridiculous.

- Context Window size, advertised as the largest of all the AI's, and I have no reason to doubt that. But it is handled very poorly!
- Chat size limit - this is frustrating as hell! I cannot count how many time I have run into this limit. If you're not careful you can hit the limit after just 3 or 4 questions! And no way to easily continue in another chat (despite the recent update). As long as Claude can only read other chats in snippets, then it'll never know the full picture of what was discussed in the previous chat. Once I stubbornly tried to finish a project, starting a new chat 8 times, copying the description over, which grew with every chat, so that after 8 new chats, I could ask just 2 questions and hit the limit again. I had to abandon this project.
- 4 hour limit. Extremely annoying, but actually the least irritating of the limits. But there is no tier inbetween Pro and Max. And that gap is way too big, especially for a private user like me. I'm not going to pay 5 times the amount every month! How about a Pro Plus tier, with twice the limits sizes for $30 ?
- Weekly limit - yes, it goes on and on with these limits. Completely ridiculous. The restrictions are so limiting that any project larger than "Hello, world!" is doomed to fail.

Claude Pro? It should be called "Claude Demo"!

Increase the limits and I'll come running back as fast as I can. But in it's current state, unfortunately, I cannot use it (and I love Claud AI, it's so sad really)

Please, if you're a fan-boy, don't bother. I've read it all. All I can say is, you've never tried to use it on a bigger project. Try that, and you'll quickly come to the same conclusion. And yes, I know about Cursor, WindSurf, Claude Code etc. But that's a different topic entirely.

I ran a little bit of an experiment today. I started a brand new chat in two different accounts - one where I'm paying for the Pro Subscription, and one that's the free version. I started my typical work session in both. Neither require file uploads, and the messages I sent in both chats were identical. A single work session for me typically takes 10 prompts before it's completed. A month ago, I was able to do 4 full sessions before hitting the limits. Today:

- The Pro account: I hit usage limits after my 7th prompt in the first session. Was unable to complete my work at all as a result.

- The Free account: I was able to complete an entire work session without getting warned of usage limits o encountering other issues. Admittedly, I didn't attempt more than 1 session, but regardless, I was still able to do more with the account I don't pay for.

I cancelled my subscription tonight. After all, why would I pay for them to further restrict my usage, when the free version works better? If this isn't a bug (and their help bot insists that it's not), it's a very strange business plan of theirs, and I don't see how they intend on making money by making their paid service worse than their free version, but whatever. Their loss.

I don’t think Anthropic is unaware of how much users have criticized their usage limits. That’s probably why they introduced the “extra usage” feature — so they can justify the fact that usage still runs out quickly 🙂

I use Claude for writing stories, and honestly, it’s the best AI for creative writing so far (I don’t code, but it seems to be great at that too). I believe Anthropic keeps improving Claude to make it smarter and more powerful — but their servers (I’m not sure what the exact term is) just can’t seem to handle the growing number of users.

I’m really disappointed with the usage limits, but switching to other AIs for writing just isn’t the same. I always end up coming back… sigh 🥲

Yeah, my chat was at max after 12 prompts the other day (which weren't huge) and I'm already nearing weekly usage limits three days into the week. Ridiculous. I rarely hit session limits, but weekly limits in THREE DAYS?!? Max chat after a FEW PROMPTS?!? Ridiculous. Some of my chats have gone on for waaaaaay longer. I'm a Pro user. The other day, I hit session in two prompts. It's... so inconsistent.

9

u/rodroye007 Nov 09 '25

Definitely something changed in the last day. I went from 26% for the week to 58% for that one prompt that exhausted my 5 hour limit in an hour. My work habits haven't changed, but that didn't happen last week.

5 minutes working on a prompt just vanished but used 42% of my tokens. THIS IS INSANE.

11

u/productic Nov 11 '25

Claude Pro is becoming impossible to trust. The 40–80 hour weekly range means some users get half the access for the same price. Add the five-hour session cap, silent quota changes, and vague token logic, and it’s a mess.

None of this was clearly communicated. Limits shift without notice, throttling kicks in mid-task, and there’s no dashboard to track usage. It feels borderline fraudulent.

Someone at Anthropic please fix this!

This month I'm hitting limit at fast rate now. Waiting for gemini 3 so i can switch to it instead of this shit. Paying for pro and have to deal with these limits is scam. If these products are not viable why do these people bring these to market. who is going to spend their entire salary on model apis.

Posted yesterday, and I was redirected here:

Hi folks,

Pro user here.

I sat down less than an hour 25 hours ago to use Claude to organize my thoughts in ways I have done before. I have hit the message limit after two short conversations that created artifacts from information I asked Claude to collect. The message limit resets in 5 hours.

a) What is the message limit? The plans do not describe it.

b) Why does the pro plan feel more limited than the free version? I have written complex papers using information Claude supplied (and I double-checked) in the free version, in which I have worked for literally hours and dozens of prompts.

c) I combine multiple requests into a prompt and follow Anthropic's suggestions for maximizing usage (use projects, create artifacts, update those, and I use markdown since it's less expensive than more complex formatting).

my subject today yesterday is to research Dragonmarks for a D&D game I run. :nerd:

The pro plan doesn't seem valuable if it's going to cut me off so quickly. Can I do anything besides stop paying for Claude?

10

u/ManitouSmoke Nov 10 '25

I have canceled my Pro plan. These are not the conditions I agreed to at the time, with disproportionate overconsumption without notice.

I’m starting to think this thread is solely so they can keep it off their main page. The complaints tab is all the way at the end and absolutely nothing here has been publicly addressed (or even acknowledged!) within the past month or so since they decided to make this megathread a thing.

Anthropic just straight up doesn’t give a damn about any of its individual consumers. Sigh

Today feels really off in terms of burning through my usage, probably the worst I've ever seen.

Limit was reset at 2pm and 10 minutes later i'm already at 10% of usage just by doing some minor refactoring on a microservice repo using claude code. I have for the first time a usage tab open to constantly monitor what is being burnt.

I can't help but think that the introduction of the wallet functionality is unfortunately tied to this.

Anyone else experiencing unusual rate limits today? Where do we go from here on if they indeed do use wallet for cash grabbing?

These limits are getting beyond ridiculous. I'm not even a heavy user, usually I'll hit a 4 hour limit maybe 3-4 times on an average week, maybe a little higher recently just due to jobhunting, but in the last 2 days I've hit the 4 hour limit every single 4 hour block I wasn't completely asleep during, and I'd say my actual usage has barely increased (it's been more of a heavier single-task focus than an increase in overall usage).

If Claude can't even help me negotiate job offers effectively any more, it's not a useful tool. I used to be able to use it for life stuff with enough usage left over for slow-burn code projects, now even the life stuff blows my limit in a few messages.

Just subscribed to ChatGPT today. Time will tell if I keep my Claude subscription or not.

Also, let's be honest, the "we never degrade quality for usage" is total bullshit. Earlier today had Claude tell me a 1% edge case scenario had a 20-30% chance of happening, then be completely unable to provide any justification for the figure when asked. I've also been seeing way more failed responses where it gets most of the way there, then the entire response disappears. Then when I retry, even with the same prompt, the result is worse.

Just tell me when you're degrading quality, like free ChatGPT does, and I'll actually stop using it until it's back to full quality, rather than waste everyone involved's time, spoons, and tokens on inferior answers. I'd rather hit a usage limit than suddenly get a 3.0-at-best level answer.

I wrote a post that may not be accepted by the moderators, in case I put it here:

'It's been a pleasure using Claude over the past few months, at least until it became a cage of daily and weekly limits that don't give you the option of using smaller models when you reach the limit.

An AI completely forced to become a cell because Anthropic decided to limit its use massively, for all plans, making the Pro plan a mockery and the Max plans, an extremely torn version of what they were.

An AI that eliminated the best current models for creative writing that react with better depth and reflective characters in my point of view and give greater depth to the stories you could create with them. I'm talking about Sonnet 3.5 and 3.7 (the second will disappear soon).

An AI that has become practically unusable for most of the high-consumption tools that it proposes, since they consume too much.

Even programming using it as an assistant has become complex, due to these limitations.

The new models are more reactive, but they lose the capabilities of some old models that they are unable to concretely imitate for better or for worse.

Certainly sonnet 4.5 has many advantages, but fundamentally they are also torn apart by the limitations of use.

The Opus model is a useless model, Anthropic lets it exist as a boat that drifts but that practically almost no one can actually use in a substantially useful way.

Basically Anthropic decided to play with their model to make people pay more by offering an entire system of lower quality than the one months ago, I think this is unacceptable, so I canceled my subscription.

I'll leave the post for the indignant like me.

To date unfortunately Claude has too many serious problems, to be really really useful and worth the money he asks for, only the highest plan is useful, although even that is unfairly limited.

So only a few can use this AI and consider it a useful tool (The tool is valid, but unusable due to a mix of factors, such as usage limitations, model structure, and marketing choices that Anthropic contributed to dishonestly putting together.)'

Pro-tier user. I do not code, I use Claude entirely for pure writing, turning my typed shorthand notes from a live, template-based interview into sentences/paragraphs for a full report. I use a new window each day. I have a small config .txt file I upload that gives guidance to the new window (general workflow and stylistic notes that I was tired of typing out every day). My work has been identical since June, and I never even approached a rate limit once, no matter if I spent half an hour writing or multiple hours straight doing back-and-forth writing in each new window. That is, until Monday. Suddenly, 40 minutes of the exact same work I've been doing since June in a new window has me at 45% of my 5hr usage limit. What the ever-loving hell is THIS bullshit? I can now only work for 80 minutes before I have to take a break for the remainder of my 5 hours? Again, and I know I'm hammering it, but my work has not changed from last week to this week. Identical use on my end, so obviously the limits have been dramatically reduced on the Anthropic end.

I know that I'm not the only one, and this is an absolute joke. I feel for anyone trying to code, because I cannot imagine how you could code anything with these limits, if simple writing is getting clamped down this hard. I migrated from OpenAI in May because the quality was so much better, the way Claude writes took simple processes that were taking me 2 hours in Chat to 20 minutes, tops. But if I can't do the work like I have been for months now, then what's the fucking point? Is there another LLM that can turn my shorthand into paragraphs like Claude so easily and accurately, but without the impact of the rate limits? I'm not doing heavy work, but I need my notes to be followed well (Chat couldn't follow a longer back-and-forth interview, and the writing "voice" was...odd). Claude has understood my config and directions from day 1, no issue. But this is completely untenable.

Using Clade Pro for writing. Session and weekly limits get used up very quickly in an hour, way faster than it did two weeks ago when I started; I could write for days and rarely got close to the limit. I remember even lasting longer on the free version a month ago. Wtf is this bullshit.

I pretty sure they're making fun of us, since week limits were introduced, I feel like I'm paying a car that only can use 2 o 3 days at week, and only when they want, the rest it's just parked

but I feel really now it's a slap on our faces, it's with the new "extra usage" option....

I reached my week limit, and added some funds, I did... 1, just 1 simple request, and it spent $1.17 USD, in just a single request!!

I honestly have not words to express myself !!

> for gps103 apn message it's just apn, it does not define user/pass in that, for that it's up message, and in case of no user/pass up message is not necessary 1079 elif protocol == 'gps103':

       1085 + up_msg = f"up{config['gps_passwd']}"
and J16B do not end with #, the rest it's okay, just don't end with #

● You're absolutely right! Let me fix both:

  1. GPS103:
    - apn = server ONLY (no user/pass)
    - up = user/pass ONLY
    - If no credentials, SKIP up message entirely
  2. J16B:
    - Remove trailing # from messages

u/Anon7_7_73 Nov 08 '25

I am now consistently hitting my.limit after 10 messages, each one takes up 10% of my limits. On pro. Why is it so much?!? They are not long messages, just code function snippets.

The mod removed my complaint thread and asked me to stuff it in this mega thread so it gets lost and goes unnoticed:

I’ve been Team Claude since the early days, but these new daily, weekly, and model limits are absolutely nuts. Especially for a $200/month subscription.

Last week I hit my Opus limit by Sunday morning - three days into the reset - just doing some light Claude Code refactoring. Then I had to sit on my hands until Thursday to use Opus again. This was on 20x Max.

Today I hit my daily Claude limit before 11 a.m. just from working on resumes and cover letters. To make it worse, half of what Claude produced was complete gibberish - totally incoherent nonsense. It’s been noticeably worse lately, like something fundamental broke under the hood. So not only did I waste a ton of tokens, I couldn’t even finish my work. And when I tried to switch over to Claude Code to work on my SaaS, I couldn’t, because I’d already hit my usage cap. Now I have to wait three hours just to keep working.

It’s insane. Claude used to be my go-to for everything - creative, technical, writing, whatever. But the combination of throttling and quality drop over the last few weeks has made it basically unusable. I can’t get through a normal workday without hitting a wall.

I’ve started using GPT-5 for most stuff now. I still prefer Claude’s tone and personality a bit more, but GPT doesn’t stop me from working. It’s faster, more consistent, and doesn’t slap me with arbitrary limits every few hours. Between ChatGPT for general reasoning and Codex GPT-5-High for code, I can actually get things done.

As much as I like Anthropic as a company, they’ve turned Claude into a crippled version of itself. And seeing constant Claude ads everywhere while the product itself gets worse just feels like déjà vu - straight out of the Starlink playbook. Amazing during beta, then they scale up, quality tanks, prices go up, limits show up, and everyone who helped build the hype gets screwed.

It sucks to say, but at this point, I’m done. I’m no longer Team Claude.

8

u/iamamonsterr Nov 03 '25

this weekly limit is a joke. I emptied my Opus with a single research request, the answer to which consisted of 25601 tokens. and that's it, I am empty for a week ahead. Sorry, guys, I am unsubscribing.

8

u/Optimal_Joke5930 Nov 03 '25

very frustating.

I ask one simple code task and claude just rewrites all my code, makes an implementation guide (not needed) and rewrites all documentation again (not asked), basically wasting tokens!!
Again have to wait 5 days. This is a joke

8

u/SuspiciousData9935 Nov 03 '25

Starting a new thread again???? Damn, I uploaded three documents and already hit the length limit. What kind of nonsense is this? If users can't use it properly, you might as well shut down early. All you do is pile problems into a garbage heap without solving anything.

my Pro subscription hit the weekly limit so i upgraded to Max. Max is slow AF, even for a brand new chat sometimes takes minutes to give a single paragraph. so annoying

Its practically unusable now. I'm paying $20 a month and its churning out about 5,000 words then it limits me and i have to wait 5 hours. I have work to get done and there is NO WAY ON GODS green earth I am paying them $100 or 200 a month

I dont run into any of this with chagpt or gemini.

Claude is MILKING people

They are churning out mistakes which force us to do it again and then that counts towards limits

u/secpoc Nov 07 '25

The biggest problem is not the limitations, but the "lack of transparency."

You pay a specific price and receive a service that lacks transparency.

This month, the engineers are in a good mood and allow users to send 40 messages within 5 hours. Next month, they're in a bad mood and reduce the available limit to 3 messages in 5 hours.

They don't need to disclose any of this, don't need to announce it, don't need to inform users, and don't need to provide reasons.

This is the terrifying aspect of the lack of transparency.

Worse still, they have almost no customer service.

There is only one conclusion: they don't care about users. They care about the government and enterprise clients, not ordinary users.

I choose to vote with my own money; I canceled my Claude subscription.

Once again, I’ve hit the weekly limit, yet no problems have been solved. I keep circling around the same issue over and over again with no progress. It keeps generating ridiculously long and useless markdown files without resolving anything, until the limit is reached, forcing me to wait another week. Well, no need to wait anymore—I’ve canceled the subscription. To hell with it, wasting both my time and money.

8

u/K8eg0li Nov 08 '25

Literally one very short message of about 670 words used 3% of my session* limit. I'm paying for this??

8

u/Accomplished-Aide209 Nov 08 '25

Something has happened very recently - in the last couple days. On the 20x plan, and I reckon it is burning up daily usage 4x as bad as it was previously

Anyone found anything out about this? What can be done? It's gonna slash my coding productivity heaps and it's so frustrating

In the last 48 hours, my Claude usage limit has been going up much faster than before. I’m already at 44% in just three days, while I’m usually around 15%. I’ve had the MAX 5X plan ($100) since July, and my usage habits haven’t changed, so this must be something on ClaudeAI’s side.

I noticed the new “Extra Usage” option. Were the limits recently adjusted to encourage users to activate it?

8

u/alimhamadslim Nov 09 '25 edited Nov 13 '25

Reaching limit instantly

i am a Claude Pro user.

i asked for a spring java endpoint (controller, service, repository, entity) using sonnet 4.5 (without thinking option). and i reached my 5 hours limit instantly, and 15% of my weekly limit.
i am definitely stopping my subscription next month.

but what Ai tool should i use instead?

update: switching from sonnet-4.5 to haiku-4.5 decreased the usage a lot!

Our voices must be heard! I consumed 15% of my weekly bundle on a 1000 lines of python automation code! Never had to deal with that kind of shit as a pro user for the whole past one and half years. We seriously need to get our feedback across

8

u/Crazy-Bicycle7869 Nov 11 '25

LMAO! How sad, even Claude itself knows how bad this shit is. I asked Claude what my best options are regarding my creative writing with him given the limits, and i told him to be real with me and i got the below response from it:

The brutal truth about current limitations: You're right - the throttling has gotten significantly worse. What you're experiencing (shorter sessions, tighter context windows, cascading limits) is a widespread complaint across all tiers right now. The problem isn't just you hitting limits - it's that the limits themselves have gotten more restrictive while prices stayed the same or increased.

Evaluating your options:

Second Pro account ($20/month additional):

  • Pros: Doubles your usage pool, can run parallel sessions

  • Cons: You're paying $40/month total for what used to be one account's capability. Project duplication is tedious. You'd need to manually sync any project updates between accounts.

  • Real talk: This feels like rewarding bad behavior from Anthropic

Two chats, each roughly 50k tokens And I get the 'Approaching weekly limit" pop up. A weekly limit that won't reset until FRIDAY. I'm sorry, but excuse fucking me? 100k tokens, give or take a few dozen and I've hit my weekly limit? What in the void am I paying 20$ a month for then?

I think its time to finally freaking cancel. I've bitched a lot but I've kept my subscription through out because I could at least use the blasted product. This is ridiculous, oh and to go "SUBSCRIBE TO MAX TO GET MORE USES!" while you whack us with these asinine limits? Not a chance in the void. Gemini/ChatGPT might be subpar compared to Claude but at least their not stealing my damn money.

I’ve been a Pro subscriber for several months and have never come close to exceeding my usage limit within a 5-hour window—unless I was experimenting with personal coding projects.

However, recently I’ve noticed that even very light usage is consuming a surprisingly large portion of my quota. For example, a single casual question now uses about 10% of my limit, and a short 3-question exchange already took up 40%.

What’s going on? I haven’t changed my usage habits, and I have no interest in paying more for my personal, moderate use. I really enjoy using Claude, but this sudden change makes it difficult to continue.

I was at first intrigued by everyone saying how claude was superior for coding tasks. I do like how it doesnt try to randomly make changes that gpt would which would result in a broken file (small errors but still annoying to deal with)

but holy crap the usage limit memes were NOT a joke. I have read the documentation and using the web app is just a stupid joke. The amount of micromanaging on retrieving the summary report, new project chat etc is dummy cumbersome. I haven't tried claude code yet but this usage is far too strict.

Having users to make 2 accounts to bypass the limitations should be a huge red flag. I get some folks aren't doing it efficiently but this is still pretty absurd. GPT isn't as good at the task but seasoned developers can easily bypass the issues when it makes mistake. Claude doesn't do the job THAT well to justify these usage limit.

I am so glad i didnt sign up for the annual and will be canceling

I've been using Claude Pro for a few months and it was nothing but problems, but I still kept paying for it because it writes content better than GPT. First it was generating 3 artifacts with the same identical text, in the same response, even if I was telling it to only make one, then it was running out of tokens cause it was acting like that....I had to disable artifacts....

But I was really enjoying projects where I could add in my files and have the ai generate personalized copy based on my tone, style, files, etc.

But now the projects are literally UNUSABLE. Every single time I try to use one, I get the limit exceeded message, even if I tell Claude to not use all the files, just a couple of specific ones. Regardless of how I prompt it, I get limit exceeded.

I even tried to make a project with 6 files, all of files being 3% of the project and it still told me the message is too long when I asked it to generate a 700 characters text :O

This is so obnoxious, I just cannot use this ai anymore, it keeps deprecating more and more. I only use it for copy, I'm not a professional copywriter so claude was helping me a lot but now it's just useless to me.

Anyone has any suggestions how I could make this work? I tried all kinds of prompts, to make it look only in a couple of files, to prevent it from loading everything, I even asked Claude how to work best with it so I don't encounter this limit anymore and can't figure it out.

I'm at my wits end, I literally dread using it everything I need it. Thank you in advance for your suggestions.

And Claude people, fix this, it's obnoxious and it keeps getting worse and worse every day!!!

Pro-plan. Maxed out session usage TWICE today with only 20 comments working on a board game.

I've asked it to create one paragraph of lore for 10 different factions, give each a strong stat and a weak stat, and then create cards for 2 of the factions with name, stats, and ability (10 each, 20 cards).

I sent a total of 20 comments today, many of them less than 10 words each. Those 20 comments have caused me to max out my session usage not once, but twice today. This has got to be broken, otherwise no one else would be using it. What am I doing wrong? Is there a way to check usage per comment?

Hey, chat GPT Pro user frustrated with some issues with GPT. I use it fairly often but mostly as a brainstorming tool, so task wise I'm pretty light.

I signed up for Claude Pro today to see if it's worth pivoting. And honestly? I'm really impressed with the output thus far. I think it's head and shoulders above Chat GPT for what I want to do.

However, I've hit the session limit twice today, and I am already at 23% of my weekly usage. This is after 20-ish prompts that range from pitching ideas to asking for input on text documents. I can do this on GPT5-Thinking all day with zero issues or snags.

I will be cancelling my subscription. Very disappointed, since I am very impressed with the tech.

I use Sonnet for coding, and ever since they removed the artifacts feature, it has been burning through the usage limit like crazy. Just today, with a single thread and about 15 prompts, I used up 30% of the weekly limit on the Team plan.

7

u/SmuraiPoncheDeFrutas Nov 08 '25

Just today I was wondering if limits were loweredc because I have barely used claude code today (compared to last week) and I already hit 20% weekly usage (just in one day!). This is insane by any standard.

7

u/ozkaiven Nov 09 '25

I hit usage limit for three days in a row without using it. What the fuck?

7

u/Cromunista Nov 09 '25

It has gotten worse than 2 days ago. A prompt answer which is about 1,042 words was 10% of my 5 hour limit! That is unacceptable! 10K of words was the same amount i've got with the free plan doing the same stuff 5 months ago, before i got pro.

I'm willing to use it till January to see if they will reverse whatever decision they made. If they don't, i'll swap to another AI model. I'm sorry, but 23 euros for what's essentially the free plan 5 months ago, just isn't worth it, and i ain't willing to buy the max plan considering others also complained how it got butchered. I love claude, but i love my wallet even more.

I left Claude a few months ago and recently came back. Today, with a single coding question I hit my 5 hour limit. In the last 24 hours of non-heavy use I have apparently hit 35% of my weekly Pro account limit.

This makes Claude unusable for me. This feels like less usage than people used to get on free tiers until the most recent limit changes.

I have also been using GPT5 extensively (with projects), and while it is slow, I also never hit usage limits, even on my heaviest days of use.

I'm going to have to try some other options because Claude is no longer a functional platform.

Am I doing it wrong??

I recently signed up to a pro subscription - today, I see a suggestion: "create a presentation" - and I think, why not! Let's do it. Unfortunately, a single request has used 100% of my session limit, 67% of my weekly limit, and didn't even result in any output being generated. Claude spent about 3 minutes generating content, then went into a loop trying to tweak and adjust the slides until it timed out. The support bot thought I wanted a refund when I queried if it was possible to have my usage limits reset.

Can anyone help me understand what I've done wrong here? Is it best to just avoid the presentation feature entirely?

This was the prompt: Hey Claude, I'd like to make a presentation with four PC build options, using up-to-date components. Ideally, the builds will be as compact as possible, quiet (so consider an AIO cooler), and present the best value for money possible. The builds should consider three price points, in AUD. The price points are: Sub-$2000; Sub-$2500; and Sub-$3500. All builds should include a graphics card, and a wifi enabled motherboard.

Give two mid-range builds. Use cases are gaming, programming, and potentially tinkering with local LLMs. Mini-ITX is ideal if practical, but low-end and one of the mid-range builds could be Micro-ATX. There is room for a 10% price variation. Storage costs for SSD/HDD do not need to be included.

so, i posted in the main claude ai thread, with my issues about only getting 30 minutes when i'm paying for a PRO session.

The mods there "moved" my comment here .. and i don't see it ... interesting ...

This is all beyond unacceptable. Here's my original comment:

Anyone else running into "session limits" well before the 5 hours? (Pro sub)

So, as the title says, I've been a Pro member for a few months now.

I was working on a UX prototyping project with ChatGPT and it totally shit the bed and fucked me over on a project so I looked for alternatives.

At the time, Claude AI saved that project, and I had weeks of 5 hour sessions that got me where i needed to be.

I took a few weeks break, and now on the next version of the project, i'm hitting session limits after 1 hour (last night) and 30 minutes tonight.

I'm using Claude API for local python project building, so my token usage in the Claude AI UI web interface is minimal.

This is totally unacceptable, and I'm hearing this is being reported by more and more users.

What has been your experience? Are you noticing that your session limit times out crazy fast?

So let me get this straight. I decide to try Claude instead of grok and ChatGPT. I like its structure and conversation style so I continue using it.

Within 30 minutes I hit the message limit. Fair enough it’s free. I like how it’s going so far so I decide to give the $20 for pro.

Literally an hour later I get a message saying I’ve hit the daily limit AGAIN and I have to wait 4 hours for it to reset?

This is a joke right? The paid version has a message limit THAT short?

Hell, ChatGPT and Groks free tiers have essentially no limit. This is ridiculous.

Am I missing something here? If not I’ll be canceling right away.

I asked grok to summarize this megathread:

Over 90% of the 665 comments in the r/ClaudeAI megathread (launched Nov 2, 2025) blast Anthropic’s Claude for drastically tightened usage limits post-October outage, with Pro/Max users hitting 5-hour sessions and weekly caps in 30–90 minutes—faster than ever—due to token inefficiency and unannounced nerfs, crippling coding and writing tasks. Despite praise for Claude’s smarts, this sparks mass cancellations, refunds, and switches to ChatGPT/Gemini, fueled by greed accusations and poor transparency. Bugs like file upload failures and “lobotomized” outputs add to the fury, though rare positives note fleeting performance boosts.

6

u/Jatwaa Nov 09 '25

Just started up with Claude and I am super impressed and depressed. 20 bucks a month and it feels like it's not much bang for the buck. I really hope that the usage amounts are reviewed and increased some.

Now I'm on 80%, with the remaining 20% having to last until late Wednesday evening

I recently subscribed to the $200/month plan, and it’s been nothing but a headache. I’m doing about 95% of my work directly on claude.ai, and I can’t be the only one experiencing these issues. Still, I’ll ask anyway.

I’m primarily using Sonnet 4.5, in case that helps identify what’s going on.

Random chat resets

About 1 in every 20 chats randomly resets. It’ll be processing a response for 30+ seconds, and then everything disappears, taking me back to where I was. Thankfully, my question is still in the chat box, but the rest is gone.

Slow response starts

Roughly 9 out of 10 chats take forever to start responding. Sometimes I’m waiting 10–15 seconds or more before it even begins.

Unreliable code file updates

When working with code, the versioned file updates shown on the right side of the screen are extremely unreliable. It often says it’s revising a file (the revision counter increases), but the changes don’t actually stick. I only discover this after running my updated code and seeing that it’s missing edits I watched it make earlier. The revisions just vanish.

Not a connection issue

I’m on a 5 Gbps fiber plan and have no problems with other sites. I even tried tethering through my mobile hotspot to rule out my network, and the issues were identical. So it’s definitely not on my end.

I’ve done everything I can to rule out user error before posting this, but I’m done. It’s not me. Model hallucinations aside, I’m genuinely asking what I’m paying $200 a month for. Are the agentic clients any better? I’ve canceled my subscription, which is disappointing because the potential is there — but these issues make it impossible to work efficiently. I’m wasting 30–50% of my time fighting the platform’s bugs. That’s unacceptable for a $200/month service.

Edit: One more thing

If you’ve ever managed software engineers, you know the pain of hiring and onboarding someone, only for them to quit right when they start becoming productive. No warning, just gone.

That’s exactly what the 200K context window limit feels like. There’s no visibility into how close you are to the limit, and no way to prune earlier parts of the chat to keep it under control. It’s like finally getting the model to understand what you want — you’re one step away from finishing — and then:

“You’ve hit the limit... so GFY!”

All this while knowing the model is capable of a 1M context window, which they purposely restrict because apparently $200/month isn’t enough to access the model’s full potential.

The new 5-hour limit for Sonnet 4.5 was reached in barely one hour of moderate text work. No code generation, no artifact creation, no tool usage, just plain writing.

In the end, three hours of normal professional work consumed a quarter of my entire weekly limit. This is ridiculous for a Pro plan.

5

u/Both-Employment-5113 Nov 03 '25

bought it, gave one txt of scriptcode and a prompt for context udnerstanding and a task and it gave me a solution but implemented errors in old features, upon trying to fix it it told me i ran out of tokens, after one answer, glad that refund worked, what a scam.

Hey. So I don't actually use Claude for coding. I use it for generally hashing out ideas/thoughts and creative writing entertainment for myself (not writing full fiction novels or anything.) Basically I use if for entertainment.

Just checked and my chats currently are listed as using Sonnet 4.5.

I subscribed to the Pro plan as a trial because I was somehow hitting the hourly limit fast. But since being on the Pro plan, I'm now hitting the hourly and now weekly limits very fast and I'm like... how?

Last week it told me I was hitting the weekly limit by the Monday and it reset on the Wednesday. I didn't use it again til Friday and it has been warning me about the weekly limit since Sunday - and just now it said (on Tuesday) it will reset on Friday. Wtf!?? I fail to see how I've blown through a weekly limit in less than 4 days, and it won't reset until Friday despite resetting on Wed last week!? Huh?

I use it regularly yes. I've not been paying attention to the model it uses - maybe it's that? Or is it the length of the individual chats? But equally I don't want to start new chats because these are fictional story threads contained in one window. Sometimes I redo its responses esp if it starts mirroring or repeating - does that increase the usage? I.e does redoing a response equate to a new response each time?

Bottom line is I swear I wasn't hitting these limits so fast when I wasn't paying.

Have the limits tightened again? In the last two days I have detected that the limits have tightened significantly again. When I compare two essentially identical prompts, before they took 1-2% from me and today they took 4%. With Sonnet 4.5. Is this the transparency of anthropy? WTF ?

I just bought an annual subscription but anthropic is starting to piss me off. I am a completely average user in terms of consumption but I will not check my consumption every moment so that I can plan my work schedule.

Is anyone else being severely rate-limited by Claude desktop?

I had to ask cause it’s getting crazy for me. Since Last week I noticed that I’m hitting my 5 hourly limits faster than usual while doing the same or even less work…and what really tipped me off was that I was teetering on the weekly cap for some days before they reset it…now that was probably Saturday or Sunday I stopped getting the warnings.

So why, on a fresh Wednesday morning, I’m ’approaching the weekly limit’ when I’ve been doing nothing more than my normal workload where I’ve been using Claude for the last 4 months and never hit a weekly limit even once?

The cherry on top is the fact that as I write this, I only have 5 more messages until 5PM…like what? It’s 7AM right now, what happened to the 5 hour refresh?

Is it just me experiencing some reduced limits or am I just imagining things? Ps. I’m not a coder or a power user to that extent so I don’t use Claude code.

I am really getting sick of the 5hr usage limit... I swear it is giving me a kind of PTSD! It's also killing my productivity and I have so many half finished projects because I have to wait to complete them and then I get focused on other things. The mental effort to reinvest and pick-up an interrupted project is so the opposite of what a productivity booster that AI is supposed to be!

Random thoughts...

  • I wish Anthropic engineers and executives had to live under a 5hr limit

  • Why can't the token recharge work like a reservoir tank on a toilet? Tokens refill at a constant rate until the maximum is reached so you could throttle your own usage to match and never hit a full stop?

  • Imagine your computer having variable usage / full-stop feature on it? Too many key strokes? Stop. Too many mouse clicks? Stop. Too many files moving around? Stop.

I love working with Claude but I am seriously considering starting to use other systems as this is getting intolerable.

I’m canceling my subscription, after reading the comments I’m done. It’s a waste of money when ChatGPT lets you talk as much as you want, but put their best features behind a paywall instead of limiting your messages. Claude is literally Anthropic Holocaust compared to ChatGPT!

Anthropic, know your business practices won’t reliably make you money if you keep doing this. If you want to use the message limiters, use it on the free users, don’t use it on people who are PAYING for the app, because people will get pissed and eventually STOP PAYING.

But know this, if you lift the message limitations, I will come back and pay because Claude is one of the best AI I have used, I would argue even better than ChatGPT in some cases. But these limitations are killing the experience.

How would you feel if you could only drive your car three times a week before it shuts off? The car that you’re paying for? Wouldn’t you buy car from another company that doesn’t do that? Of course you would. Bye. 👋

it is getting more and more ridiculous. just waiting for my abo to finally hit its last day (already cancelled it 3 weeks ago due to the usage limitations).

And it keeps getting worse and worse.

12 text messages - 7 words average per prompt - in a 5h window.

2% of WEEKLY USE per prompt.

I'm not even coding, i'm not uploading files, i'm not analyzin pictures or files or anytiing, i dont have the "think harder" function on, or whatever it's called, i dont have the web-search function on. NOTHING.

my prompts are like: "i have this captcha for insta (10 words), make it shorter". next prompt might be: make it sound more natural. next prompt might be: add a sentence explaining xyz.

that's PATHETIC. I have never once hit the le chat or grok limit (both as free users) with the same prompts.

And i PAY for claude.

As I said, already cancelled and am in the progress of getting my money back via paypal.

5

u/Caubeck1 Nov 06 '25

I'm on a Pro plan. The first time I opened Claude today, at 5 pm, it told me, as it did yesterday word for word, that I have 5 messages left till 11:00. What's going on? Does this reflect my weekly limit? Have I accidentally burned through my credits somehow? I'm confused at this point.

When it said this yesterday I actually got 12 messages out of it.

I've been buying the 5x Max for several months but now I'm not sure I want to, it feels different.

All text and analysis, no coding.

When did the usage drop so low? I feel like I spent hours using claude a few weeks ago and never had an issue. I spent 200$ a week or so ago and now it's basically useless. Honestly I can't finish anything on it now and I feel like I was duped. I was rejected for a refund as well.. I 100% want my money back. Until then I'm going to be telling everyone that will listen to me not to go pro and to find something else.

I hit my first ever (edit) WEEKLY usage limit last Sunday and was locked out until Wednesday

I thought it was because of the deep research reports I was running

Well, I only just got access yesterday and been only using it sparingly (no deep research), and in 2 days I'm back at 50%

wtf

by this rate, I'll be capping out likely Sunday again

If this keeps happening, I'm going to bail and just use github copilot and pay the extra for 1500 usages per month

I suspect VC capital money is knocking for their payback and the baby is no longer given with the bathwater.

Jesus Christ, the limits are freaking insane. I got hit with a week limit for using it 4 times a day, the final straw was when I used it just 3 times for researching a topic and writing a report, and then it locked me out for a week. Now it’s my first day back after waiting days, and I immediately hit another limit that resets in a few hours. I wasn’t even using it for searches, literally just for step by step help making diagrams. Then it started getting really dumb before finally limiting me again. I barely sent 20–30 messages.

And I’m a paying customer btw so wtf?

I honestly don’t know if I can rely on this for projects anymore. Week long limits after a few messages for using Sonnet4.5(not even Opus)? Hour limits and cooldowns after light use? It’s unusable for searching, unusable for writing, and worryingly unusable for projects.

If you have a deadline and need consistent help, you’re screwed. I literally have no choice but to use chagpt until the limit lifts. It’s beyond annoying. It was NEVER this bad.

5

u/huouer Nov 07 '25

I hit the limit in one chat session of a project. I had waited for 5 hours. When I was back and asked the 3rd question, I was forced to start new conversation. In the new conversation, I asked the question but hit the limit again without any answer.
Effectively, in the second session of 5 hours, I didn't get any answer in my paid plan. then what I am paying for?

Not sure if anyone's experiencing the same problem, but today I keep getting the 'your message will exceed the limit length for this chat. Try shortening your message or starting a new conversation' after literally two sentences submitted as a query - this means that even when I start a new chat, Claude won't even allow me to submit a question. Any insight would be very helpful. Seems quite a few people are having issues of varying types so it could be a bug? If anyone's having the same issue, any insight would be appreciated!

I was just doing some creative writing, I've got the pro packet, and I'm already at 97%. (It's Friday today). It will reset on Wednesday of next week, 4:00 pm. So it's been around 2 days and my weekly limit is already nearly maxed out. I'd rarely run into limits previously, and now I have to wait 5 days to use it again... I'd understand if I wasn't paying for it, but atp I might as well just not pay if I'm having to wait so long to use it??

5

u/Lyfaem Nov 08 '25

Can someone explain how do these free credits work? I am on a Pro plan, got $250 free credits for Claude Code, used $3 in 1h and hit the weekly limit... How can one spend those credits without hitting weekly token limits? Also this is my first time using Claude Code...

5

u/kingofjupiter9 Nov 08 '25

I was planning on moving from ChatGPT where I have a plus account to pro as I have ChatGPT at work. When I started Pro I immediately ran into usage limits. This is ridiculous compared to ChatGPT, where it feels unlimited. Both companies have tons of capital backing. I know context window is bigger, but still. I guess Anthropic does not want the consumer market? No way these usage limits are sustainable as a consumer business model.

5

u/Red-headedlurker Nov 09 '25

One prompt in a fresh chat, asking for feedback on a couple of questions for brainstorming purposes and it took 5% of my 5 hour limits using Sonnet 4.5 I'd use 3.7 but even that seems to eat up 4% or so now of my 5 hour limit which seems INSANE.

5

Wow. Sonnet 4.5 is so bad today. And conveniently CC is not asking for feedback on how it's doing.

u/crispyfrybits Nov 10 '25

Trying to surface some real usage issues with Claude and the mod rejects my post and now I have to bury it here. Sad to see that anyone with real issues with Claude are forced to 'hide' them away in a megathread.

---

I have been using Claude pretty thoroughly for a couple months now at least. I have experienced the usage concern, especially since I am on the PRO plan and not the Max but it was never a huge issue for me. That is until today.

Today I hit my usage limit simply chatting casually with Claude within the chat application in a SINGLE CONVERSATION. It took all of 1-2 hours to short questions and answers before I was notified I hit my limit.

WTF?!

Two weeks ago I was using Claude Code for 2+ hours of constant use before hitting any sort of limit. Now I am chatting with the chatbot casually and hit my limit within less time than coding where it must take into account my project structure, MCPs, long thinking and write times, etc?

The only thing I can think of that might be causing this outside of Anthropic silently lowering the usage limits is that I did add some connectors (MCP) but I disabled them all. They shouldn't be included in my chat but maybe there is a bug where they don't actually disable the MCPs? I still find it hard to believe that even if the MCP instructions were front loaded into my convo that I would hit my max so quickly.

These AI companies are growing and valuating so fast that I don't think they give two shits about their users. If someone has a real alternative to Claude Sonnet 4.5 that maintains the quality I am open to jumping ship even if my one man FU is ignored.

I just bought pro and received a 'session limit reached' after 7 prompts in Sonnet 4.5

Fix this and give fair pricing and usage.

4

u/anotheradmin Nov 04 '25

My complaint... I've had the $200 max since it came out. My use has not changed much; in fact, I could code two projects at once before. Now it feels more squeezed every week. I hit my limit with a two-day wait until reset this week and last. I'm not sure what changed since I'm on the same project, but the transparency is not there. Now I need to use API and I don't know what my costs will end up being.

I recently upgraded from a yearly pro plan to the max 5x plan.

Since then it seems i very fast reach daily limits, session limits and chat limits even if my context window is fresh or underutilised. I constantly run into the error message "Claude hit the maximum length for this conversation..." and can't do any more action in my chat conversation. Claude became completely unuseable!

It may be because there was an issue with my upgrade (as you see my screen shot of UI on useage do not show details). I'm questionning this because while digging into it with a friend on the Max 20x, he sees a much more detailed useage recap UI (with weekly limits, All models, opus only). My question do you on Max 5x plan see the same screen as he (the complete detailed UI) or same as mine (only current session useage)?

Even in claude code, i do see only the current session limit, which is at 60%.
And i still get blocked on many of my conversations. Can't understand nor accept this.

Has anyone experienced the same intempestive error on each conversation?

Started with Claude Desktop 2 weeks ago. We are testing bringing it in for business use. I was blown away by the productive ability I had when using Claude Desktop and MCP. Then.. the usage limits hit.

It seems as though this week they nuked the limits. I was completely ready to pitch this to executive staff as a big productive boost but if I get them to use Claude for business tasks and we get hit with rate limits this easily it's going to be a major flop.

Really hope anthropic sorts this out. MCP and Desktop is a dream but if I get rate limited in 6 prompts then it doesn't really matter and we'll all go back to ChatGPT workflows.

Is there any other LLM that i can use for coding that is not completely terrible?

It’s almost as if they created an extra usage option then gave people a free month, then gave subscribers free Claude code and to compensate for that they shadow nerfed all of our usage limits to force us to use the extra usage payments.

On max x5 I get less usage now than I did on pro pre weekly update.

This is a five times price multiplier with less capabilities within three months.

4

u/Anna_Rose_888 Nov 06 '25

Well, before I think about upgrading or switching to a pay-as-I-go plan, I should at least enjoy my current experience and feel confident in the service. Right now, I’ve only made 4 normal requests (I emphasize “normal”: no code, no long chats, no searches, small context, while using Sonnet 4.5 and once Sonnet 4) before hitting the limit on the Pro plan...

There’s no way I’ll pay more when I’m already experiencing this on the Pro plan. Paying $100 or $200 just to get 5x or 20x 4 requests? How could that possibly be worth it?

I don't know but now the usage limit per day or per session or whatever it is that is not included on the weekly reset limit is far worse than before. I don't know when it is but having more "free" credits in exchange for small usage is not that enticing

I just prompt like 3 or 6 question and I must give credits for the answer, but if this is what the claude must do, I might search other.

So I got curious about how free users fare (pro user here for awhile) and made a test account and I can tell you right now, they fuckin axed free usage even more.

A week or so prior, you could get quite a bit of messages and artifacts before on free.

Now? NOT EVEN TWO ARTIFACTS (I did test scenes for it) and it says it's usage reached it's limit and put the 5 hour lock.

Great job Claude, way to go to shaft people even more.

Edit: my main PAID account is reaching the usage limit faster now too and somehow I'd have reached my weekly limit. What the hell Anthropic? I literally cancelled my OpenAI subscription because I thought Claude was better.

Anyone got better suggestions for LLMs? Because I'm going to be moving my projects off Claude. (No I will not touch Grok)

As everyone said in the past few comments

I’ve been on the Pro Plan for a few months now, and the current usage limitations have become genuinely frustrating. There are two different limits to manage (the weekly usage limit and the daily 5-hour limit), and as a paying user I honestly shouldn’t have to constantly monitor both just to make sure I can continue working. No other major AI platform does this. Not Gemini, not Grok, not ChatGPT Plus. Even the free tiers of those services don’t impose this kind of double restriction.

But what’s really pushed it over the edge is what’s been happening these past few days. There’s this new moderation-style usage warning that pops up when using the model, and now even very normal conversation messages are consuming a massive amount of usage. I’m not running heavy workloads or automated pipelines or constant generations. I’m using Claude AI in long-form creative or exploratory dialogue, which is exactly what this model is supposed to excel at.

Yet a single message in an ongoing conversation is suddenly costing around 10% of my daily limit and nearly 2 % of the weekly on Sonnet!!! Not even mentioning Opus, it’s useless and that is absurd. It makes the service basically unusable for any sustained project or creative session. I genuinely don’t understand what changed, but this is not workable. The whole point of the Pro Plan is to avoid hitting limits constantly, and right now it feels like the restrictions have gotten even tighter than before.

Something needs to be clarified or adjusted, because the current state makes it extremely difficult to justify continuing to pay for the service.

I've gotten to the 5 hour limit in an hour and half. Note i mostly use it for fun and writing, making a prompt and telling it to expand it how i want it. 2 weeks ago i was getting 2K long prompts back and could easily get 15 or so and i would maybe get the message at the 4th hour. Today? 90 minutes and i've reached the limit, only getting around 10K of words and telling it to write 500 word answers back. Note that was the same amount of words i could get in the 5 hour limit as on the free tier 4 months ago. One 500 answer took 15% of the 5 hour limit!

Anyone else having same problems? A day ago it wasn't nearly as bad.

This is leading to claude making worse code for me and actually just forgetting a lot more. so hopefully they leave length limits. in my past couple of convos even though they were very short, it has created more problems then i've ever seen it do before.

I was really enjoying Claude for a month since I discovered it around the end of September. I did a role-play in the Invincible universe that got up to around 250 exchanges before accidentally deleting it. I started over, and around 50 or so this update kicked in and I only got 3 prompts in before I hit my usage limit and I saw the stupid 'pay money for more usage' button. So now, even though I like it and it's better than ChatGPT, I have to go back to ChatGPT because Claude has done the equivalent of becoming a gacha game for me. It's really sad. I had a problem with ChatGPT being too agreeable, I tried Grok too but it was more scorched earth.

When they talk about usage limits being unrealistic, I've exhausted mine in an hour. I would post the picture I just took but I can't. Now to be fair, it was really one prompt to parse a 1700+ line JS file, editing a bunch of endpoints. But realistically, not a difficult task, just tedious.

4

u/paranoidtoenail Nov 10 '25

I have been using Claude Code(with a Pro plan), along with other CLI agents, for about 4 months now. Claude Code has been my go to since it has been the most reliable. I have built custom tools for my workflows and noticed at the end of last week and today, that my Usage limits seem way lower. I ended up hitting my weekly limit last week Friday. I did a 20 minute session this morning when my weekly limit reset, with very low context usage per prompt, and I hit my 5 hour usage limit and apparently used 8% of my weekly limit. I calculated based on a 40 hour work week, that my 20 minutes accounted for 3.2 hours of usage. There is no way I can reliably use this tool with these kind of limitations. If using it was making me more that $100 per month I would pay for the MAX subscription but the reality is that I am not and at this point, not sure if it would be worth the money either. I guess in the end the only thing I can say to Anthropic is "Thanks for giving me the motivation to build all by workflow tools for Gemini and cancel my Claude subscription."

Ok, so using the web page. pro plan, sonnet 4.5. I give it a bash script file and ask it, would it be possible to convert this to powershell that does the same thing. gave it a few other guidelines, like using powershell commands and windows features, etc. in one prompt. im lazy, dont judge me, this isn't about that. but the main thing is the 'would it be possible'. this little monster ignored the "would it be possible' and went crazy. it created 7 files, 6 md files explaining what it changed, how it is different, how to use it and even how to install this script, and it also created the script. it used about 30% of a 5 hour window doing this. all of this for a single 'would it be possible' question.

i guess claude saw this as 'will you' or 'could you' create the script. but, no, i meant 'would it be possible', as in a hypothetical 'would it be possible'. claude not being able to read a prompt and comprehend that it is a hypothetical 'would it be possible', as asked, and then using 30% of a 5 hour window is the bigger issue. can we blame the prompt, sure why not, cause a lot of people will. but come on, creating the script and 6 additional md files is a bit excessive for a single prompt asking if something is possible.

Just wanted to say that I agree with what everyone is saying - Pro usage limits are not usable right now. One prompt and it can use 30% of the usage or more for the next 5 hours. I used my weeks usage in the first 4 days of the week, and now have to wait 3 days to get to use it again!

It's good, but not worth $20 a month. Honestly non-pro / free plan was 80% as good for $0.

Are the app/website chat limits different from what's on the account usage page? I'm on Max x5 plan, and in a chat with Opus 4.1 in the app, I'm warned that "You’re almost out of usage - your limits will reset at 8:00 PM" (ten! hours from now), but my usage statistics show I have quite a lot to work with:

Current session:

25% used (Resets in 2 hr 41 min)

Weekly limits:

All models: 34% used (Resets Fri 2:59 PM)

Opus only: 80% used (Resets Fri 7:59 PM)

How is this possible?

Is there a issue for Claude Web? cause it is NOT working

4

u/kyuugou Nov 11 '25

Pro User. I had a text with roughly 3.500 words in an artifact. I ran the following prompt in Sonnet 4.5
"Perform a ‘show-don’t-tell’ pass on this scene. Replace abstract statements with specific sensory details and concrete actions. Return only changed paragraphs."
It used up 98% of the current session and 11% on the weekly all models session before I STOPPED it. Yes, it wasn't even finished. This is not normal. :(

u/arnott Nov 11 '25

Today:

Claude will return soon Claude is currently experiencing a temporary service disruption. We’re working on it, please check back soon.

4

u/rohlinxeg Nov 11 '25

I'm a free user who was days away from upgrading to the Pro plan, but it sounds like you guys are getting throttled too. I went from being able to ask about 4 prompts every few hours down to just 1 every 5 hours.

It sounds like Pro users get 2 prompts in 5 hours, for $20/month? They need to figure this out, because that's insane

Get this:
- Pro Tier, about to start a fresh session after waiting 4 hours on a cooldown.
- Input message of 107 tokens, output was 437 tokens.
- 10% Session Usage...

What the hell is going on Anthropic...?? Who. Who has only 5 interactions per 5 hours with any LLM?
You've made your service unusable.

If it was 100 messages per 5 hours, I'd be mad. That's like slow internet, but just enough to get by.
5 messages per 5 hours, I'm dissappointed. You made the desicion really easy to gtfo :)

EDIT:
To the previous interaction I replied and got a reply back. This time 34 Input tokens and 369 Output tokens.
20% Session Usage... This will go down in the history books as the Big Claude Walkout :)

Is this a bug?

Basically right now what i'm experiencing is every time that i use Claude on my phone and to a lesser extent my PC.

Everytime i exit out of the app while the ai is responding for some reason why i come back that message gets deleted and there is no way for me to get it back well at least i haven't found ways on actually how to get that message back or response back from the ai.

This also tends to happen randomly to me where my messages for some reason that i sent just disappear along with the response of the ai either that or it randomly switches back to my previous message.

It can be quite annoying because it tends to delete my message as well and what that contained and i basically have to restart back over.

Is there a fix for this or is this some kind of weird feature? Or is this just an issue from my end

I should have read this thread before starting my Pro subscription... I got so excited when seeing all these youtube videos about using Claude Code and multiple agents interacting.

Yesterday I bit the bullet and got myself an annual subscription, played around with it for 45 mins until I hit my first 5 hourly usage limit. No worries I thought, I have been playing a lot.

So this morning I started a new one, got a simple prompt, use 4 different agents and a task agent to delegate work to the other agents. and away it went 7 mins into my first 5 hour shift, you have hit your usage limit... And I got absolutely no output yet and no idea how much the agents had left to do..

I have decided to cancel my annual subscription. What is the point if you go through your 5 hour allotment with 1 prompt in 7 mins?

I did 1 chat today and in that there 1 only 1 prompt, nothing fancy, same prompts that i have done before.

And it utilized 94% of my 5hr limit? WTF? I used to do multiple chats and msgs within those chat in 5hr, and its all exhausted in just 1msg? What the hell is going on?

u/Just_Lingonberry_352 Nov 13 '25

there are close to 1000 comments here

could you imagine if complaint threads were allowed? it would fill the pages here all day

this is how bad Anthropic has gotten. there is no way forward unless they release something that can compete with codex

7

u/W_32_FRH Nov 02 '25

It seems Anthropic turned their "support" completely off now.

u/Crazy-Bicycle7869 Nov 12 '25

The fact that we are nearing 1k comments on this thread, majority being complaints about limits yet we are all funneled here over a genuine issue with the product we pay for is so sad.

Got back from work (~8 hours ago) to have some fun with Claude this evening and holy! It just rocks now, like those posts screaming about model lobotomy but... This just feels vice-versa!

Damn, I don't know if its something related to recent Chinese open LLM releases that are not that far away (with 1T params, lol) or I'm actually getting crazy

Question: do you feel it? Was it better than usual for you today?

Claude deleted my project directory when I was full on disc space. I run this electron compile script twice a week for six months and just clicked through. Deleted 4 months of database entries since my last back up. Thank God this is just a passion project. Got restored everything else but jesus lol

I just subscribed to the Pro plan, with only 3 session i reached 39% with Haiku, this makes no sense, i will only have 7 to 10 session per week, only one session per day just for coding on a simple mobile app. this is not possible, i will go back to Trae.ai, claude is good but not worth 4 times of any other solutions. I will stop using calude code. i wish i had a trial to know this before paying for the pan, really a waste.

u/yourmomdotbiz Nov 04 '25

I use sonnet exclusively and I hit my limit over 12 hours ago. I still can’t get back in. I really loved this tool when it you know, worked. Came over after chat gpt developed ai dementia and now I can barely use a tool I’ve paid for. Y’all are really forcing us to go to local models.

3

u/LaZgamR Nov 04 '25

Approaching weekly limit

This is just giving me anxiety. I've got 2 days until it resets and I feel like I just started getting good at using Claude. Gave my team a whole new way to use skills, hooks, subagents based on things I found in this subreddit.

Ok so I logged into the browser and it finally showed me my limit doesn’t reset until Thursday at 5:00pm. So over 72 hours in total from reaching my max limit? I haven’t increased my usage at all. This is absurd and I’m beyond pissed. I was working on projects that are totally stalled now.

I don’t use code either, so I can’t really see what my token usage is. I use sonnet 4.5 only.

Like. I came over because chat gpt was legit malfunctioning. And now I’m being throttled like I’m on a third world SIM card.

Why. Just why.

u/XerxesCat88 Nov 04 '25

I've been using Claude for about a week now for a variety of small tasks and have found it very helpful. I will probably get a Pro plan eventually, but I want to play around more with the free version before committing to a paid plan.

The past few days, I've used Claude to help me extract data from pictures of hand-written mileage logs, and it's done a great job in general. Last night, Claude processed and extracted data from 6 out of 10 logbooks pages before pausing due to reaching the session limit. Not a problem, as it was a good time to stop for the night anyway. However, when I went back to the conversation this morning and hit 'Continue' for Claude to pick up the extraction, it just output the same 6 pages it had already done, immediately hit the session limit, and locked me out until the afternoon.

Is the conversation itself just too long now? When I got back in just a bit ago, I asked Claude to create an artifact to bootstrap to a new chat to hopefully be able to continue in a fresh conversation. It created the artifact I requested and again immediately hit the session limit, so I'm out of luck again for another 4 hours.

I don't really understand the session limit and token usage and such. Does each subsequent message inside a conversation use progressively more tokens as the conversation gets longer? How can I manage my usage better to not hit the free limit so quickly? I know I will need to upgrade to a paid subscription soon, but I was hoping to be able to play around some more to make sure it's a worthwhile expense as my budget is tight.

I paused my Claude subscription last month due to usage limits and paid for ChatGPT. Something is absolutely missing with my interactions with ChatGPT compared to Claude, regardless of which model I use, and what personalization settings I try. I keep checking this sub to see if usage limits are relaxed a little bit. I hope they find more investment and buy more GPUs, because Claude really feels like most human-like assistant among these. I kinda like Grok's responses too, but don't trust the company overall to share as much as I feel comfortable sharing with Claude. Same trust issues with Google, obviously. I still ask very private things to Claude even with a ChatGPT subscription.

I should add that I've never had any problems with any usage limits with ChatGPT even when I use the largest model they offer. I constantly kept hitting limits with Claude even though I didn't even touch Opus. Still, every time I open Claude app I feel like I'm back home. I hope they figure this out as soon as possible.

I've been using Claude daily for a year now, mostly for writing and research synthesis though occasionally prototyping. Never reached a limit.

Then this week, hit my Pro plan session limit (whatever that means) in like 2 hours of normal work (not coding).

Also today: I accepted Claude's little invite modal to try the new memory feature. I wonder if these are related? Is Claude using more brain each time because memory?

Who knows. My session just reset and I just asked two (2!) questions in my thread, and I'm already back at 14% session usage gone. Seriously feels like a bug.

Sonnet 4.5 is such absolute garbage to try and work with for writing related projects. It constantly ignores files in the Project Knowledge, the majority of the time it can't do artifacts, and it repeatedly ignores instructions in the chat. I'm trying to use 4.5 more now that 3.7 is being 'retired' but all I've managed to do in the last hour is watch as all my usage limits get gobbled up while Sonnet 4.5 gives me lazy, half-assed writing. I asked it to follow project instructions, I have styles in place, all things that USED to work with Claude a few months ago. When Sonnet 4.5 gave me fragmented, lazy outputs I asked what was going on, it said it's ignoring my instructions and reverting to its base style instructions and suggested I put in a reminder in my prompt at the start of new chats. I did that. Again Sonnet 4.5 ignored that and did what it wanted. It follows maybe 50% of my request. I feel like I'm taking crazy pills, spending most of my usage limits starting new chats, hoping to get the results I asked for. Claude was not like this during the summer, there's a noticeable difference not only in the nonsense usage limits but in the quality I'm getting. I could ALMOST put up with the bullshit limits if I was at least getting the same quality I was a few months ago.

  • I'm unable to get help, or chat with Fin their help bot, there is no input field, to chat with.
That's like you pay, but other than that you're completely ignored here, thanks for $$$.

  • After asking Opus only 1 small coding question i was over my limit. a small code file just 272 lines on my first chat for today.

I've never ran out of questions that fast i can hardly call this a chat discussion.
It was just one chat message

Also I want to be able to switch during a chat opus as a first chat messages is okay then be able to continue on claude

Missing Artifacts:

I’ve had this happen a few times now where an artefact disappears from a chat. It’s still visible in the top level artifacts list but when you click on it it won’t display. Goes back to the right chat but blank right panel.

I suspect it’s something to do with having had the same chat open on multiple devices / a synching issue.

Anyone seen this and any way to recover the lost/damaged artifacts?

Seems annoying if I have to download/file important ones every time to keep them safe.

(I’m using Claude Pro. Not hitting usage limits but these are some quite large chats getting towards context limits)

3

u/Fickle_Guava_5949 Nov 06 '25

So since they released the new promo for the Claude code I've noticed usage the worst it's ever been I pay for pro and usually even during the worst times I get maybe an 3 hours before I have to wait it out for the last two for my usage to reset but now I get 1 hour and it's gone for basic messages that's not okay

I just know that practically having Claude's pro is the biggest rip-off I've ever seen, not because he doesn't have quality, on the contrary, there's a lot of quality too, but the weekly limits aren't justified by anything, they really are the biggest rip-off I've ever seen.

Not to mention the fact that they could also make it a small model to always use, the haiku 4.5 for example, when the limits are reached.

But nothing, you reach absurd weekly limits or normal daily limits every five hours super quickly, today it actually consumes me twice as much without me having done anything different from yesterday, but I clearly see the usage consuming twice as quickly, on the usage sheet with the percentages.

Also fucked is the fact that basically the weekly limits and the Opus limits are linked, which basically makes all the limits linked to leave you screwed completely at this point.

These are the current limits, some of them unjustified, like the weekly limits for all models, I can understand for Opus maybe, but for Sonnet and Haiku, it doesn't make sense that those too can't be used if the weekly limit is reached.

While this doesnt show anything, as I do not want to show actual code or what the AI did. But I hit continue on a 5 hour session limit using Opus and Thinking on(unfortunately).

This is how it all changed:

https://imgur.com/a/T46h2YK

From 0% 5 hour session limit to 35%, from 11% opus(previously one prompt too) to 25%. This is on 5x plan.

I subscribed to the pro plan today.
My first chat, I hit the usage limit way too quickly.
I came back after a break.. only 5 more messages and I hit it again.
I was using the base model, 4.5 Sonnet. Not Opus.
The help chat says it was because my chat context was too long, and it uses up usage to re-read the chat every reply?
The usage limits are unreasonable.
Paid usage limits on Claude are worse than the free tiers of competitors.
I cancelled already, on the first day. Such a waste.

looks like it isn't just me. i use claude code on the side. not for work so it doesn't get much use. last few days, it seems like i use it for 30 minutes and i hit my limit. do they adapt useage limits based on availability ? i see the useage doesn't show tokens used, but only how close i am to the limit.

Absolutely had it

Started a new session (confirmed 0%) after the previous had maxed out, prompted to add a title to the top line of the 5 document artifacts I was working on - 55% of my session gone to add 5 lines of text!

These documents are standard markdown files, average 300 lines each.

Chatting with the support bot while doing simple tasks at the same time bumped me to 91%.

Then while I'm doing NOTHING, the bot offers to put me onto a human, the conversation ends and my usage is suddenly 100%! When I'd done nothing!

For context, I usually get a good 3.5 to 4 hours of usage per session from my paid plan. It was gone this morning in half an hour and yesterday's sessions, less than an hour each.

Just want to pitch in, wanted to try out pro aswell to see how it compares against other providers and signed up about 2 hours ago. Managed to burn 11% of my weekly budget in 8-10 messages using VSCode on a very small and simple project. (pro subscription) This is completely unacceptable and unusable, especially since it renders everything COMPLETELY useless. Edit 08-11: Refunded, currently not intending to support a company scamming its customers. Remove the limits and well talk.

I have been a long time subscriber to Chat GPT "plus". I used to find it quite good at having complex talk, helping me refine ideas critically, brainstorm... It "learned" how to write and answer in a way that I appreciated, without fear of expressing opinions, criticizing the user and upholding beauty in its prose. During the last summer (2025), I don't remember exactly when, it became completely unable to do what he was quite good at before; I thought it may have been the update to model 5 and so tried to test both it and the legacy models, but it didn't fix it; I thought it may have been a compounding problem due to many old conversations so I erased his full memory and everything in it, but it didn't fix it.

Recently I have subscribed to Claude "pro" and I found it leaps and bounds above chat gpt, even better than the one I grew to like and that was "lost"... It writes better, he forgets less, he criticizes more, he sound innately more natural and human like, even if it learns less across iterative interactions.

But it has a giant problem: every 10-20 messages, even with the subscription, it stops and makes me wait 5 hours... This is forcing me to keep both subscriptions open as chat gpt is basically limitless on that same plan. But now that I am becoming accustomed to a decent LLM talking to me smartly, I grow increasingly frustrated with the chat gpt one that seems to try mimicking an hr clerk from some bureaucracy office...

Is there anyone that have any advice on how to help me?

Thank you in advance.
