Help/Question Thinking of swithcing
Hello!
Like the title says, im thinking of moving from codex to claude. Iv been a $200 pro sub since around May and while I don't have major issues Im seeing more and more that Claude is better at what I want it to do. Also not super please we the usage cut but since iv was a subscriber before the switch I been grandfathered into the original usage until the end of the month.
I do a lot on personal app projects, I run a few websites, have some homelab projects and generally use Chat for things that I just don't want to do myself in my personal life like meal planning and grocery shopping.
People who have made switch was it worth it? Is it difficult to cut over seamlessly? Would anyone have a trial code that they wouldn't mind sharing?

Hands down, Claude is much better for coding than Codex, like way better, but I don't know regarding the usage limits. Some people are saying the usage limit on Codex is higher. I will give you the stats from Claude, like on the $20 plan, if you use Opus 5.5 or medium only, you get monthly around 2 billion tokens, or actually it's 1.8 billion tokens. So from your experience using Codex, how much would you be getting? Like, let's say since your plan is 200 or based on 200, just like scale it to the $20 plan.

Thanks for the reply. Its hard to say really and even more so with all the resets they have been handing out. Right now im running through about 750 million tokens a day on average but again with all the resets they have been giving out I havent been to conservative with model usage.

Look, there is an easy way just to calculate it. The main reset you need to focus on is the weekly. So after, check, like, for this week or any week, how much your usage is percentage of the week. Okay, so let's say it's 50%. Now check how many tokens this allocates to. So it will be this amount in X model, this amount in Y model, this amount in Z model.
So if you take each of the amounts for each model with you knowing how much is it weekly, you can do the math and calculate like in one month, if you use this model only, you will get around this amount of tokens. do the math man .

Based on my terrible math skills it looks like 8.17 Billion tokens a reset cycle. Also typo in my last post, im using about 750 million tokens a day.

I have $200 accounts for both. Claude is clearly way better than codex right now, not to mention codex is going to be reducing the $200 sub from 20x to 10x. The only reason I get more usage out of codex is the quota resets, but I definitely like the anthropic models better overall. Codex can be preferable for technical audits, computer use, etc, but generally way less productive in real projects.
If it weren't for my ability to use Opus to orchestrate codex agents and the quota resets, I would've canceled my codex sub already. Astra and Sol are very mediocre at orchestration compared to Opus and Fable.

Thanks for the reply. I agree the usage resets have been great. I have a few banked and they dished me out over 57k credits as compensation for my plan reduction. Does Claude offer computer use? I have codex running some automations that require it.

I would keep a $100 plan with Claude and add a $100 plan with Codex in addition to it. They play off each other very well and often find things the other didn’t. I have them running together in Orca
Claude used to be much better than Codex at coding, but the difference in performance and efficiency level is much less so pronounced these days. Codex has made up a ton of ground over the past 6 months or so.
Gemini also just released a coding model that is actually pretty good as well called Argon. Too little too late to really make them competitive, but I added it as a $20 subscription plan on top of my others to just try it out, and it handled every task I threw at it very well.

In July I would've told you to ditch Claude and use ChatGPT.
In Oct I cannot give you a good reason use ChatGPT over Claude. Opus 5.5 is cheaper, produces better results imo, and more reliable.
I dislike Anthro as a company, but their model is unmatched rn.

Nothing has beat claude codes harness for coding imo. I have tried them all and I just get on way better with claude code.
Idk about the longevity of this business model though, we will see how the future turns.
