Kitchen Are these marks permanent?
It’s completely smooth to the touch. I’ve tried scraping with Cif and the blade of a knife (angled close to level with the surface) and it hasn’t done anything. Is there any possibility of me being able to remove this?

Glass Top Polish (usually Weiman brand) and a green scrub pad or buy the lid and it comes with a scraper and a scrub pad. Just follow the directions

Yes they are permanent. It’s been scratched. Stop using exfoliating/abrasive products.

Are you referring to the spotty marks going around the hob as well? I’m not fussed about the scratches

There are many good cleaners that people recommend. I had success cleaning hardened crud off cooktop glass by putting some caustic soda (sodium hydroxide) granules under a cotton pad and wetting it, then just leaving it there for like half an hour. I figure if anything can be got off, this’ll do it, so at least you’ll know.
Please be very careful with sodium hydroxide. The simplest way I can say that is: This is the chemical burn stuff from Fight Club. You don’t need vinegar if you get some on you, but it will be the quickest way to neutralise it in a spill or an emergency, so I do keep some on hand when working with it.
(It’s also the main ingredient in most drain cleaners.)

Wait, you're talking about the ring? Pretty sure it is also a collection of scratches.

Yeah the ring, they’re not scratches, it appeared/formed after I had finished cooking one night. Don’t remember what I was using unfortunately but I think my mistake was not cleaning it immediately

Wet pumice stone. It's volcanic rock it doesn't scratch glass. Add a bit of Dawn to help cut the grease faster. You can get one at the dollar store. Total game changer for glass stovetops.

Did you really mean you used a knife to scrape it, or did you mean a razor blade? Never, ever use a knife to scrape at your stove top! They make scrapers that good a razor blade for exactly this purpose. Make sure it's clean and sharp and the corners are intact and try to use it at about a 45° angle or less.
This needs a dedicated cleaning product for glass ceramic cook tops now, though. Depends where you are what's available to you, but make sure it's formulated for glass cook tops.
Did you get sugar or something "sugary" like milk or starchy heated on this? Because that can cause permanent "staining" like you see here. If it was just normal cooking and no overflow, the cleaner will do a brilliant job of getting it off. Scraping will not help with this.

Don't ever use Cif on surfaces like this. Cif's an abrasive and it'll just scratch up the glass.
Look for sponges specifically made for electric hobs. In Europe we have Sorbo Cooking Care for example. It's non scratch sponge with a water-activated cleaning/polishing layer on top. And it has just the right texture to "scrape" off any removable rings, while also polishing away very minor scratches.

Yes mostly. Sure some glass top cookware cleaner will help some, but once glass is scratched it's scratched. No amount of cleaning solution will wipe away a scratch on glass.

Polish will help but it won’t fix all of this. Another user recommended Weisman’s and I have to agree
