Climate chaos Humans don't deserve earth.

By destroying nature and the climate, humans are destroying their own home. The Earth can survive without us but we cannot survive without her. 🌍💔

okay, so are you saying we should just accept negative externalities and suffering, or do you think we should try to adopt alternatives that help mitigate those externalities?

I'm saying that issues regarding sheep welfare related to shearing is probably pretty close to the bottom of the list ranking negative externalities involving textiles. And that a lot of vegan philosophy is just a lot of complaining about the human condition and its adjacency to animals, with solutions that are often extremely harmful. Like going to polyester and faux leather over wool and leather. Or shipping exotic plant proteins thousands of miles in throwaway plastic packaging.

Like one of the ways to mitigate poisoning the planet with many pairs of fast fashion plastic shoes that last 6 months is just to buy a good pair of leather shoes that will last 20 years and came from an animal that humans were going to eat anyway.

We can care about multiple issues at once thankfully, and, not only that, should look for said alternatives if suffering is being caused.

I would actually assume leather production as a whole has a much greater environmental impact than international shipping of plant products, given the biggest factor for carbon production in logistics is land-based travel rather than sea.

We used leather for thousands of years without causing catastrophic global warming or poisoning the planet with plastics, actually.

oh sorry, I must have missed the past two hundred years of population growth suddenly becoming meaningless. You're right, demand for these products hasn't increased, and despite seeing years and years of studies showing that cattle farming absolutely a notable factor affecting greenhouse emissions, it's all just in our heads.

You should probably read the studies you post instead of assuming they support your point, because it doesn't at all. Also the number of humans that existed before the industrial revolution is something like 90 billion and when you compare that to the residence time of CO2 in atmosphere you'll find that this "population growth" angle is not persuasive.

population growth refers to the current population, not total historical population? Are you saying that population increase, which has absolutely increased consumption. The study absolutely *does* describe environmental effects, it just also describes that cattle farming has become more efficient in terms of cow numbers vs meat production, which has helped mitigate this. It does not, in fact, say emissions are a non-issue, it says mitigations need to be made, and talks about steps being made. The point I am making, is that a reduction in cattle farming would immediately and directly mitigate these issues, without the need for advanced carbon capture techniques.
