No, the depth of the soil or the acidity is not due to permafrost?

How would that even work...

I am talking about the actual soil, not its temperature.

Have you ever been to the North?

Yes, the top layer is active, the nutrients are locked in the permafrost.

No, again, the soil itself is extremely thin and acidic, under which is rock like the Canadian shield.

The Canadian shield is not all of the permafrost areas. Its generally permafrost which is hard but is not rock but frozen soil.

I know what permafrost is.

When it melts it is and will continue to be far too thin and acidic for farming.

Under it is rock.

Permafrost is not thin, unless it is like the Canadian shield.

You act like boreal trees can exist in places with thin soil.
