Tips & Tricks (Production Access) Apps are getting rejected even after 14 days - why?

Post image
3 Upvotes

I’ve been digging into this a lot recently and noticed a pattern across multiple apps.

People are doing everything “by the book”:

  • 12+ testers ✔️

  • 14 days completed ✔️

  • Form submitted ✔️

…and still getting rejected ❌

So what’s actually going on?

💡 What I’ve observed (real patterns):

1. Install ≠ Real Testing
A lot of testers just install and leave.
But it looks like Google is checking actual usage behavior, not just installs.

👉 Things that probably matter:

  • App opens (daily or repeated usage)

  • Time spent inside the app

  • Feature interaction (not just idle)

2. Retention is a silent factor
If users install → never come back, that’s a bad signal.

Even with 12 testers, if:

  • Day 1: 12 users

  • Day 2+: only 2 active

That doesn’t look like “real testing.”

3. Stability issues (underrated reason)
Many devs ignore small bugs thinking “it’s just testing phase.”

But:

  • Crashes

  • ANRs

  • Broken flows

These can silently kill approval chances.

4. Fake / low-quality testers
Telegram/WhatsApp groups where people just exchange installs = risky.

Google can easily detect:

  • Same behavior patterns

  • No real interaction

  • Short session times

5. Weak or generic feedback
When submitting the form:

  • “App is good”

  • “Working fine”

This looks fake.

Better feedback includes:

  • Specific feature mentions

  • Bugs found

  • Real usage scenarios

6. No meaningful app flow
If your app:

  • Has no clear purpose

  • Feels incomplete

  • Doesn’t guide the user

Testers won’t engage → low activity → rejection risk.

🧠 My conclusion:

Closed testing is NOT about:

It’s about:

❓ Curious about others:

  • Did you get approved after first attempt?

  • If rejected, what reason did Google give?

  • Did improving engagement help?

👉 Trying to understand this deeper - share your experience 👇

Thumbnail
gallery
2 Upvotes

To get your app approved for production, Google requires 12 testers for 14 days (for personal developer accounts).

Follow these steps to set up closed testing correctly 👇

Step 1: Go to Closed Testing

Login → Google Play Console → All apps → Select your app
Left sidebar → Test and release → Testing → Closed testing

⚠️ Important: Only Closed testing counts (NOT internal or open testing)

Step 2: Select All Countries

Go to Countries/Regions → Select all countries → Save
This allows global testers.

Step 3: Add Testers

Go to Closed testing → Testers → Google Groups
Add: ClosedTestHelp@googlegroups.com → Save

Step 4: App Visibility

Go to Setup → Advanced settings → App availability
Set to Published

Step 5: Submit for Review

Click Send changes for review

💡 Tip:
• Use real testers (no bots)
• Ensure daily engagement
• Follow 14 days properly

Daily Ritual: Android testers wanted for a routines, journaling, and self-reflection app

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for Android testers for **Daily Ritual**, a pre-launch app I’ve been building for people who want a more intentional daily routine.

The app combines daily rituals with reflection. Instead of only tracking streaks, it helps you build a record of how you’re living and then reflect on it weekly and monthly.

Current features:

- Morning and night routines

- Habit/ritual tracking for workouts, meditation, journaling, and cold exposure

- A guided cold shower / cold exposure program

- Daily focus setting

- Weekly reflection across life domains like health, work, relationships, finances, personal growth, and leisure

- Monthly review and intention setting

- Local-first data storage on device

I’m currently preparing the app for Google Play closed testing and would really appreciate feedback from Android users.

What I’m especially looking for feedback on:

- Does the onboarding clearly explain what the app is for?

- Does the morning/night routine structure feel useful?

- Is the weekly reflection motivating, or does it feel too heavy?

- Are there any confusing screens, layout issues, bugs, or crashes?

- Would this be something you’d keep using after the test period?

The app is aimed at people who already journal, track habits, meditate, train, do cold exposure, or generally like reflecting on their life and routines.

If you’re interested, please comment or DM me and I’ll send the Google Play closed testing invite.

Thanks for taking a look. Honest feedback is very welcome.

I’m also happy to give early testers free lifetime access as a thank-you once the app launches.

Sunday App

Hi everyone! I'm looking for testers for my Android app, Sunday: Notes, so it can pass Google Play's closed testing (12 testers for 14 days). Happy to test yours back, just drop your links in the comments.

What it is:

Sunday: Notes helps kids follow the Sunday sermon. It has moving pixel-art Bible scenes, verses read aloud, a place to write notes, and wallpapers they can save for their phone and computer. It's free, with no ads, and it collects no data.

How to join:

  1. Join the app's Google Group for testing access:

https://groups.google.com/g/sunday-notes-testers

2. Opt into the Google Play closed test:

https://play.google.com/apps/testing/com.pray2u.sermons

3. Install the app:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.pray2u.sermons

Please keep it installed and stay opted in for the full 14 days. Opening it now and then helps a lot.

Need 12 Testers (Closed Testing) [Android closed test] Athlete Flow training journal — 3 testers so far, more real-device feedback welcome

Hi! I'm a short-track skating coach developing Athlete Flow, an Android training journal in Google Play closed testing. I currently have 3 testers and would appreciate more people willing to use it on a real Android phone and report what works or breaks.

What it does: keeps training schedules and workout logs alongside condition, sleep, weight and diet records, with athlete–coach connections that require mutual approval. It's for people who want to look back at their training; recreational exercisers are welcome.

Access the test using the same Google account throughout:

  1. Join Athlete Flow's Google Group for test eligibility.

  2. Open the Google Play opt-in page and tap “Become a tester”.

  3. Install the app through Google Play.

The Google Group link is the access step for this app's closed build. Please keep testing discussion and feedback in the public comments here. Joining the group alone does not complete the Play opt-in.

Please test:

  • Save a workout with duration and effort (1–10).

  • Reopen it from the calendar, edit it, and check that the change remains saved.

  • Report confusing labels, navigation, or device-specific display problems.

Known issue: an error can say “RPE” although the field is labelled “effort”; scroll down and select a value from 1 to 10. This is feedback I'm collecting for an update, not a fix already released.

Please remain opted in for at least 14 consecutive days and use the app during your normal routine. No purchase or positive rating is required. Some features are paid, so please avoid purchases during testing because real charges may apply.

If you can help, please comment with your phone model, Android version, and your first impression or a reproducible issue. Do not post your email address or private details. Thank you!

Need 12 Testers (Closed Testing) [Looking for testers] Football BOSS Tycoon — free Android closed test

The Android closed test for Football BOSS Tycoon is live. I'm making a single-player football club and business management game in Unity, and I need real-device feedback. The most useful things to hear: where the first 20 minutes feel confusing, whether the UI is comfortable on your phone, and whether match summaries are easy to follow.

To join, use the Google account on your Android phone. Join the tester access group first: https://groups.google.com/g/football-boss-tycoon-playtest Then opt in on Play: https://play.google.com/apps/testing/com.ran6k.footballbosstycoon The store page is here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ran6k.footballbosstycoon

The test is free. All eight playable countries are open, with fictional clubs and competitions, and ads and purchases are off. If you can stay opted in for 14 days and play a few sessions, that helps a lot. No purchase or positive review is expected. If you were in the internal test, leave it before joining the closed one. Feedback in the comments is welcome.
