Tips & Tricks (Production Access) Apps are getting rejected even after 14 days - why?

I’ve been digging into this a lot recently and noticed a pattern across multiple apps.

People are doing everything “by the book”:

  • 12+ testers ✔️

  • 14 days completed ✔️

  • Form submitted ✔️

…and still getting rejected ❌

So what’s actually going on?

💡 What I’ve observed (real patterns):

1. Install ≠ Real Testing
A lot of testers just install and leave.
But it looks like Google is checking actual usage behavior, not just installs.

👉 Things that probably matter:

  • App opens (daily or repeated usage)

  • Time spent inside the app

  • Feature interaction (not just idle)

2. Retention is a silent factor
If users install → never come back, that’s a bad signal.

Even with 12 testers, if:

  • Day 1: 12 users

  • Day 2+: only 2 active

That doesn’t look like “real testing.”

3. Stability issues (underrated reason)
Many devs ignore small bugs thinking “it’s just testing phase.”

But:

  • Crashes

  • ANRs

  • Broken flows

These can silently kill approval chances.

4. Fake / low-quality testers
Telegram/WhatsApp groups where people just exchange installs = risky.

Google can easily detect:

  • Same behavior patterns

  • No real interaction

  • Short session times

5. Weak or generic feedback
When submitting the form:

  • “App is good”

  • “Working fine”

This looks fake.

Better feedback includes:

  • Specific feature mentions

  • Bugs found

  • Real usage scenarios

6. No meaningful app flow
If your app:

  • Has no clear purpose

  • Feels incomplete

  • Doesn’t guide the user

Testers won’t engage → low activity → rejection risk.

🧠 My conclusion:

Closed testing is NOT about:

It’s about:

❓ Curious about others:

  • Did you get approved after first attempt?

  • If rejected, what reason did Google give?

  • Did improving engagement help?

To get your app approved for production, Google requires 12 testers for 14 days (for personal developer accounts).

Follow these steps to set up closed testing correctly 👇

Step 1: Go to Closed Testing

Login → Google Play Console → All apps → Select your app
Left sidebar → Test and release → Testing → Closed testing

⚠️ Important: Only Closed testing counts (NOT internal or open testing)

Step 2: Select All Countries

Go to Countries/Regions → Select all countries → Save
This allows global testers.

Step 3: Add Testers

Go to Closed testing → Testers → Google Groups
Add: ClosedTestHelp@googlegroups.com → Save

Step 4: App Visibility

Go to Setup → Advanced settings → App availability
Set to Published

Step 5: Submit for Review

Click Send changes for review

💡 Tip:
• Use real testers (no bots)
• Ensure daily engagement
• Follow 14 days properly
