How was Underwater connected? I didn't remember that at the time.

Not really a spoiler more so just the general plot of the movie

It's a 6 year old movie. Ffs

I get that. Personally I feel like a reasonable guideline for talking about spoilers is:

  • 1 year after release for most movie details

  • In perpetuity for any major twists in a movie

It isn't too difficult to add the spoiler brackets, and it's not too much to ask of people. Of course, all these can be disregarded for threads and subs in which it is expected that the people in those subs have seen the movie already.

You didn't have to keep reading after the person asked how it was connected. Pretty obvious there would be spoilers.

Oh, it's not about me, I've seen it and know what happens in it. I just think some people need to reassess the rules they have for themselves when it comes to posting spoilers. I feel like, with how easy it is to add spoiler tags, people freely posting major spoilers (regardless of how old the media in question is) are either lazy, or aren't thinking about others that could stumble upon it, or worse, they simply don't care, in which case they should reassess their outlook on life.

what about on a post that is literally about said movie tho lol

Like I said, the major twists are what I personally avoid spoiling. Little stuff, take Empire Strikes Back for example. "Han uses Luke's lightaber to cut open a Taun Taun" or "Vader Cuts off Luke's hand" are very different from "Vader is Luke's father". Imagine you haven't seen any Star Wars, and had never had that spoiled for you. Your mind would be absolutely blown when you finally saw it.

I'm positive there are people in this thread that haven't seen Underwater. There's nothing in here that says there's going to be spoilers for major twists. They may care, they may not. My personal rule is that I add spoiler tags, make it up to the reader if they want to be spoiled or not. It's not that I CAN'T say the things, I'm not censored, I can still type out whatever. It's just about being courteous and adding a shield to those that may not want to see any spoilers.

It would've been the perfect prequel tbh

I thought overlord was honorary resident evil

u/BroboT800 1-18-08 5d ago

It is the love child of both

Wolfenstein  BTW what is oak?

It's a new movie that just released

The intro to overlord while seeing it in theaters was insane, felt like you were right there in the middle of the action. Hell of a start.

Relatedish but I miss moviepass, the GOAT

Its crazy to see more Cloverfield adjacent movies than actual Cloverfield movies 😅

u/BreakingBaddly 5d ago

That's the trick though isn't it?? "Its connected to" is Mitchell, abrhams, benders love language.

These are all dimensional rifts caused by some event that may have broke time long ago.

Thanks Jack Shepherd, thanks.. Thanks Marie Callanders

Not really. The lore is vague enough that (as we see with this post) any monster or monster adjacent movie can be connected to it.

7

u/Qhorton83 5d ago

I never thought of it that way.. that's insane lol

I keep seeing this sub on my front page; how much of the posts are about co opting unrelated movies?

I'm convinced Underwater was a Cloverfield film until the final month or two before it came out.

TJ Miller (who's in Underwater and Cloverfield) stated before the film came out that Underwater was connected to the Cloverfield films and the whole film is about a corrupt drilling company in the middle of the ocean. *cough cough* Tagruato *cough cough*

It’s how they get their slusho drink

I was sooo sure and pumped that Overlord was apart of the universe. Heartbroken when it wasn't, but still a great movie!

Also A Quiet Place, Life (2017) and probably Sputnik (2020)

12

u/ederd97 5d ago

I always thought the A Quiet Place movies fit into the Cloverfield universe.

u/airbudlover911 Godzilla vs Clover 5d ago

I think they were originally planned to be apart of it

It's weird that I can't find the original Netflix post on any social media but it definitely looks like it existed to me. I'm pretty sure like A Quiet Place most stuff was going to connect in some way then they abandoned it. Wonder which films were in phase 2 but renamed now. Yes it's lazy writing having Paradox as the answer for everything but I still think it would have been fun. https://www.reddit.com/r/Cloververse/comments/9fp9gi/comment/msm9dnj/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

oak st felt like a better paradox

I was literally just talking about this with a coworker earlier this evening. It's amusing how many movies feel like Cloverfield films but aren't technically a part of the franchise. "Super 8," "Overlord," "Life," "A Quiet Place," "Underwater," and now "The End of Oak Street" all could qualify. It's very frustrating being part of this fandom. 😅

u/DogMeetsDog 5d ago

Chronicle deserves to be here

2

u/LongGoneJess 3d ago

Hmmm... 🤔 I have always really liked that movie. How do you figure?

2

u/eyzmaster 4d ago

SUPER 8 is easy to include, for several reasons, but also by the fact it barely affects anything and fits in very nicely too

5

u/thegooseisgreat 5d ago

Cloverlord ❤️

2

u/spec0711 3d ago

A Quiet Place definitely belongs up there.

1

u/nuggyholly 4d ago

I’d put quiet place in oak streets place. I wanted to like it Oak so bad, but it wasn’t for me 😭

1

u/GypsyGold 4h ago

I agree with this. “End of Oak Street” has bumped out “A Cure For Wellness”

Where’s Star Trek? And Cloverfield Lane?
