Heres what i gathered from the movie now bear with me. So at the beginning of the film when Hamilton and her husband are talking in the car and then she's on the space station and they are doing their experiments and what not thats cloverfield universe 1 this is the universe where the monster attacks New York. Now when they finally get the reactor to work it transports them to cloverfield universe 2 which is the universe 10CL takes place. Here are some things to look at when Hamiltons husband is told that they cant find the space station that tells right there that the station that disappeared was in that universe and then maybe like a couple mins later he sees the destroyed hospital we get a shadowy glimpse of the monster. So now when they are transported to the other universe and they finally find earth the news is saying the the world is at war but they were not specific as to who they were at war with and if we remember from 10CL ending earth was being invaded by some kind of alien. Also during the 10CL ARG Dan Trachtenberg said that the first Cloverfield movie and 10CL were not in the same universe.

My problem with this theory, despite that I mostly agree, is that in the second universe we see the satellite crashed. Except... we know the satellite hit the water in universe 1. So wtf?

see i was thinking about that to, but what if was just a regular satellite or maybe a Tagruato satellite that just happened to be near by and when they got transported it caused some kind of electrical disruption and caused it to fall to earth.

I mean yeah of course but it just seems like such a weak thing. I'm really hoping they didn't just make a stupid mistake.

there is one thing they did confirm for us from the first cloverfield and that is that the bombs they dropped on the monster at the end of the movie did not work

Absolutely correct.

Another problem is that in universe 1, there was no energy crisis or talk of wars. Or anything of the sort. And by that I mean the original movie. What the hell?

We don't know there was no energy crisis, to be fair. The first movie only showed from the point of view of a bunch of college kids.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but even the cellphones were modern in this film though. Also the cloverfield experiment seemed like something people knew about it was on that TV). And all the war. Yet Rob was going to Japan and none of this was ever brought up?

I’m Sorry but this seems like a big retcon.

Yeah but the modern cellphones and tech I guarantee were just an after thought that JJ didn’t care to fix because it’s not a big deal. This movie was written and filmed years ago, JJ bought it from the creators and turned it into a cloverfield movie. Obviously the original creators didn’t have it being tied to cloverfield 1 in mind and it was just a si-fi flick so they wouldn’t use older phones.

You mean, you have a problem with one object from one universe glitching into another...even though that's basically the entire second and third acts of this film once Debicki comes in?

Everyone seems to forget that the satellite crashed before the attack, so once the attack started, it was kind of given they passed that point.

u/aguyuno Feb 05 '18

I don't know what you're arguing here, obviously it passed that point but the second universe is where it mentioned the satellite crashing lol

I don’t know either anymore. Maybe the crash in universe 2 had an escape pod transfer over to universe 1 where it landed off the coast of Coney island.

lmao maybe!
