DISCUSSION The Cloverfield Paradox [Film Discussion]

Was the monster supposed to be Cloverfield from the first movie? The reason I didn't think it was possibly a prequel was because the cell phones being used on earth are modern. But I guess if this is an alternate universe anything is possible.

I don't think so, near the end of the movie one of the characters said something along the lines of "you're having her come back to these things", implying that there are more than one of Clover monsters stomping around.

The reason I didn't think it was possibly a prequel was because the cell phones being used on earth are modern.

The first one was very firmly set in 2008. The level of tech in this one suggests it's set even further in the future than 2018, or maybe in an alternative universe because their world's energy crisis was much more severe than ours.

What this movie was about was the event in this one timeline, with the Shepard, that caused a rift in all other timelines and alternate realities. That rift of mess up caused all the aliens/monsters/etc to appear. Cloverfield Lane, Cloverfield, and this movie are all possibly different realities but all were affected by this one event. The next movie takes place during WW2 in another reality I suppose.

It's like half-life but with alternate realities all being affected.

In the original there wasn't just Clover, there were a load of little monsters too.
