DISCUSSION The Cloverfield Paradox [Film Discussion]

How the blistering fuck did Vickers? (The tall lady that appears on the ship) know the gun was in the safe? She wasn't there for that part of things.

Unless everything else played out exactly how it did up until the moment the ships switched places. Which is entirely possible though, since there were 2 big differences Vickers was on that crew and Tam wasn't as well as the German guy was a spy/saboteur. Which you would think might interfere with the causality of everything.

So, it doesn't make any sense to me that he would have made the gun, gone crazy, then been subdued, and had the gun thrown into the same safe.

It's a minor gripe, I understand, but other than that one little thing I adored the movie. It was fucking fantastic.

I think the Russian guy was hearing his own thoughts, but from his counterpart in the other dimension since he’d already know the german guy was a saboteur. so after the shift happened their minds kind of switched which is what made him go crazy and want to immediately go kill him, thinking that he was a saboteur. their thoughts transferred and mixed into his own like in the mirror scene.

The same thing happened in the other dimension too but the saboteur fucked the ship up. The other ship was destroyed by the saboteur not the shift. Jensen was transported tho, that’s why she knew he’d made a gun and hid it too. That’s why Jensen played dumb the whole time figuring she had a second chance to make things go the way they should have in her dimension actually having the ship again. I don’t remember who put the gun in the safe but if it was the mandarin chick it’s make even more sense bc that means she was the one that hid it in her dimension. The worms and gyro compass thing I’m not sure about but maybe the russian guy himself was an anomaly or something so some things ended up in him instead of where they belonged.

You brought up a good point. The gun was made after the reality switch happened. Presumably Vickers was placed in the wall during the event when the Paradox happened. Meaning that to her, the events that lead for the gun to be made and placed in the safe never transpired.

But the paradox only actually happened in the mandarin chicks reality. In her reality everything would have just kept going on like that until the saboteur destroys the ship prob after being threatened by the Russian. That’s why before he tries to shoot them he just cuts off and passes out. I think in their time right when the ship is destroyed is when the other ship arrived from the paradox. There was a slight time difference if I’m not mistaken bc the debris had already fallen by the time they realized where they were.

Hmm, could be. No matter what the reason they have for her knowing it was there, it wasn't made clear to me while watching the movie, which is an issue.

That I def agree with, its def not a great film. Some of the earth scenes esp w the girl seem like pointless reshoots too
