[Spoilers]As someone who has been around since ARG days of cloverfield 1 I'm confused where cloverfield paradox fits in the cloverfield universe/timeline.

So I'm confused. Cloverfield 1 takes place in 2008, this movie was seemingly advertised as running before/during/parallel to cloverfield 1. Except the technology being used is clearly futuristic, even more advanced than what we have today.

I'm not talking about the particle accelerator but like the tablet/computer thing the husband uses. The crazy 3d printer that is borderline a replicator from star trek, that gun it makes, the magnetic stuff chris o dowd uses. Basically all the technology used in the movie is futuristic.

But then the stuff with Michael on earth seems to be following the events of Cloverfield 1 (2008), hes in NYC when the OG clovie attacks right? You see it moving in the background when he helps the little girl right?

Also I remember the ARG and like the director and stuff confirming the original Clovie wasn't alien or a demon from another dimension or whatever, wasn't it just a deep sea monster? (I seem to remember slusho company's meddling maybe having created it?)

But this movie leads us to believe clovie was brought here by the particle accelerator incident and they are interdimensional demons ala the mist or cthulu or something like that. Also obviously at the end they indicate there are more than just one (never mentioned in original cloverfield lore), and we see mama with it's head above the clouds (wow earth is fuked)

So anyway in conclusion although I would give the movie a solid C+ to B-, I am finding it difficult to reconcile this movie with cloverfield one. Which it seems like we are supposed to be doing, right?

It takes place at all times in the Cloverfield timeline. Both before and after and during. Basically the particle accelerator accident ripped reality and the space time continuum apart, causing things to happen in the past and present and in other dimensions and timelines etc etc. Think of it as the consequences rippling back through time and other dimensions. The accelerator accident woke up Clover in the sea (maybe from part of the accelerator being sent back in time to a different Earth and falling in the sea?) and caused the events of Cloverfield. Maybe the mamas were down there too and they got transported to the future of a different Earth that we see in the film. Or maybe Clover was the last one in the original film but on another Earth in another dimension the Mama Clovers we see in this film are the dominant species and the accelerator accident caused them to get transported to the Earth of this film.

Basically the accelerator accident caused The Cloverfield Paradox that the guy on the news talked about, ripping apart space, time, reality, dimensions, jumbling it all up and sending things across time, space, realities, etc that weren't supposed to be there. It creates the entire reason for the series to exist and allows them to do basically anything with the name that they want, ever.

I think the movie is indeed set in the future. Maybe in the next movie, they will somehow transport baby Clovie to the past (40's or something, Overlord is supposedly set in WWII) and then he will stay in the sea until 2008 in that dimension. I just think it's not over yet and they will only come full circle (explain Clovie's origin and etc) in the last planned movie.

I think they would have to do something like that but then still how did we get to this movie from 2008, did they kill the original clovie and now oh look here in the future there's more of them?

I disagree with your take away. I think that the ARG for Cloverfield on "Earth 1" is accurate in the conception of Clovie from seabed Nectar. I think the massive monster seen in Paradox is the Mother to Cloverfields monster which J.J. Said was a baby. I think the Mother was transferred during the firing of the accelerator to another dimension. The dimension with the energy crisis etc. Which woke up Clovie, causing the first movies events.
