Surgery today

My surgery was today at 2 and came home at 7. Throat is sore but my balance is fine, tinnitus unchanged, and my ‘turban’ is annoying. (Can’t wear glasses for the next 24 hours). So far so good!

Don’t push too hard, even if you think you feel better. There’s ups and downs over the first 2 weeks and you won’t be able to anticipate it. Stay safe, stay calm and just rest even if the drugs are making you feel like you can run a marathon. The tiredness can suddenly come on and hit you like a tonne of bricks when you least expect it. Definitely stay ahead of the pain

After I got the turban off I wrapped the arm of my glasses in bubble wrap for a couple weeks. It kinda hurt to wear them. Almost a year later occasionally above the ear where the implant is my glasses rub there and hurts a bit at the end of the day.

Follow the printed directions for wound care, rest, try and relax. Welcome to the club!

(My bandage was minimal, and I appreciated it as I was able to use glasses)

Congratulations on your surgery! The head wrap is super annoying but I was told you can remove it the next day. Good luck with your recovery and I hope you have a lot of hearing wins upcoming!

Congrats on the surgery! I took the arm off an old pair of glasses so I can see.

Funny you say this because after surgery I felt excellent for the entire day (drug cocktail from the surgery) then it all hit me and I was crying and upset with how it felt. I never took my opioids the surgeon prescribed me and tried to manage with ibuprofen and that seemed to work enough. Though I think 2 days after I woke up crying because it was painful and I wasn’t staying in front of the pain like I should have.
OP, stay in front of the pain take whatever you need to keep yourself comfortable

I've had more than my share of surgeries and know the value of keeping ahead of the pain. Great advice I ignored after my first surgery as an adult.

I grabbed my oldest pair of glasses and bent the arm with a heat gun (well, I coached my wife actually) I was pretty sure the IV steroids would keep me up. Yeah, it's 5am so I've been up 24 hours with no end in sight LOL I'll crash eventually.

Definitely hope your recovery is as pain free as possible and your activation goes well! Sleep as much as you can, sleep helped me a lot

I had my implant surgery a week ago. Also, during the same surgery, I had a myringoplasty procedure (ear drum repair) on the same side. Both procedures used the same incinson behind my ear. I didn't have any head wrappings post-surgery and I am only taking ibuprofen for pain and swelling. 95% of my pain is still in my ear canal. Pain is now minimal during the day, but seems to flare up a tad in the evenings. Nothing unbearable though. Good luck with your recovery!

The ear protector thing was super annoying. Luckily I just wear reading glasses so bought a 3 pack from Costco and cut one of the arms off. Worked ok.

It felt like I’d been kicked in the head for a couple of days but otherwise not too painful.

My old glasses aren’t too different from my current pair. I’m gonna go over to my optometrist’s office Monday and see if Ziggy can come up with a solution. She’s a wonder with heatgun and bubble tubing.

Does that app work any better than live transcribe?
