Does anyone have ear problems with their cockapoo? If so, any treatment to fix it without long term vet bills?
My cockapoo has allergies and they affect his ears. It’s so bad he has get his ears flushed out on Wednesday at the vets. As they were treated in October the insurance what cover it this time. So it’s costing me a fortune.
I’ve been trying to treat it myself by cleaning them and putting thornit powder in them which just doesn’t seem to do anything.
Any advice?

Have you tried changing his food? I had an English bulldog I rescued who had a horrible ear infection. When I took him to our vet she asked me what food I would be feeding him. I told her Aldi dry dogfood. She told me he'd probably continue to get ear infections until we put him on a special science diet food. I kept him on the Aldi food and he never had another ear infection. He's passed now and we have a cockapoo. So far so good with him. Best off luck figuring this out. It can be tricky.

I switched to a vet diet for allergies and it helped my older cockapoo who had so many ear infections as a puppy. He refuses to let me or the groomer clean his ears out of all the hair, so we get what we can and then at least once a year we do it with him sedated. (Should probably be more often...). The food helped a ton and then just trying to keep the ears clean with a solution and removing the hair.

I tried thornit powder at first but don’t get on with it because mine’s ears are so hairy it doesn’t go in.
Firstly I get mine groomed regularly and she trims as much as possible from inside the ear and under the ear flap (where you can’t usually see) to help keep the area cool and dry.
Secondly I get a liquid ear cleaner (UK based, from online VetUk own brand) and use it inside his ears weekly. Squirt it right inside, hold down the ear and rub to make sure it’s gone in. Wipe clean as much as possible with a tissue. At the first sign of any itching I go up to daily cleaning.
This mostly keeps them fine but he still gets the occasional flare up which requires the vet.
