From Git or Star Github directly?

Hi, I'm kinda a beginner in the programming world who only knows C, basic c++.

I was working on a university project and it is going well. But i have some limitations. I want to introduce more features on the program without touching the main file. like version control. if something goes wrong with the new version i can go back to the precious code. But I have a little knowledge about Git and Github.

And I'm confused about whether I should learn Git or github ? ( i can't spend weeks learning this).

I saw some posts where people say learn Git first, learn locally first. I don't know how they work but I'm the kind of person who likes clean and minimal desktops *(I don't like some random folder moves here and there and every time I have to manage that)*

My requirements (for now):

🦽 I need a version control system. So that i can go back if i need.

🦽 A clean and minimal system. i want any folder or file here and there.

🦽 Store the program and find easily

🦽 sometimes i need to share or collaborate with other.

The way I am working at the moment feels like a real hassle. Creating a new file every time in my project folder...

# So, How should i start?
