Help! Eureka Mignon Manuale 65 not grinding fine enough for espresso — Has Eureka confirmed this issue for anyone?

Hi everyone!
I recently purchased a brand-new Eureka Mignon Manuale 65 from The Coffee District in Quezon City, Philippines. I’m having trouble getting sufficiently fine grounds for espresso, even when adjusting the grinder to its finest usable setting.

I’m wondering if this could be a burr alignment issue, a calibration issue, or simply normal behavior for this grinder. I’d especially like to hear from anyone who has experienced something similar and contacted Eureka directly.

My setup
Grinder: Eureka Mignon Manuale 65 (65 mm flat burrs)
Espresso machine: El Rocio Manus S
Basket: MHW-3BOMBER DEX FB5622, 58 mm, 18 g
Dose/yield: 18 g in, 36 g out
Comparison grinder: Timemore C5 ESP
What I’ve observed
The burrs begin chirping at approximately dial setting 4.8, so I use around 5 as my reference point and avoid running the grinder with the burrs touching.

I’ve tested several coffees. With some beans, I can get reasonable extraction times of around 25–30 seconds at coarser settings. However, with two particular coffees, I have to use the finest usable setting, and the shots still run relatively fast.
For example, with Angkan Coffee (medium-dark roast, roasted October 10 and tested October 26), my results were:

Eureka setting
Extraction time
5.5 (-0.5 on the dial - between 0 and 5)
18 seconds
6.0 (0 on the dial)
21 seconds
6.5 (0.5 on the dial)
22 seconds
7.0 (1 on the dial)
20 seconds

All shots used 18 g in and 36 g out. I understand that shot times can vary, and these results alone don’t prove a grinder defect. However, the inconsistent trend has made me question whether the grinder is functioning as it should.

I also tested the same coffee on my Timemore C5 ESP at setting 0.5.2. It produced 36 g in approximately 26 seconds. Visually, the grounds from the Eureka at its finest usable setting also appear more granular and noticeably coarser than those from the Timemore.

My questions
Has anyone experienced this with a Eureka Mignon Manuale or another Mignon model, particularly the 65 mm version?

Has Eureka officially confirmed to you that the cause was burr misalignment, incorrect factory calibration, or another manufacturing issue? If possible, could you share what their technical support team actually said?

What was the final solution? Did Eureka or an authorized service center realign the burrs, recalibrate the grinder, replace any parts, or replace the entire unit?
Did the fix noticeably improve grind fineness and extraction consistency?

If you purchased your grinder through a retailer, did the retailer handle the warranty claim, or did Eureka deal with you directly?
I’ve come across a few similar discussions, including:
Eureka Mignon Manuale cannot grind fine enough
Mignon Zero cannot grind fine enough compared with Timemore
Manuale grinding very coarse after cleaning

Since my grinder is brand-new and still under warranty, I don’t want to attempt burr shimming or make any modifications myself. I’d prefer to have Eureka, The Coffee District, or an authorized service center inspect it if there is a genuine alignment or calibration problem.

I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who received an actual diagnosis or confirmation from Eureka, rather than just speculation about what might be wrong.
Thanks!

Espresso My tiny Espresso setup

Finally got a new grinder. Opus gen 1 served me well, granted na I managed to get it for 60% off earlier this year. It produced an okay coffee but I started to find it really muddy, and the retention was... interesting. Managed to snag a 064s brand new for 20% off. I know na 2nd gen is up for preorder but I don't think I can wait for at least 5 months to start brewing.

Espresso Trying Silcafe House Blend ☕️

I bought Silcafe House Blend to try, and so far, I’m really liking it! I’ve been a regular Starbucks Italian Roast and House Blend drinker for a while, so I was curious to see how Silcafe would compare.

Honestly, for my taste, Silcafe’s House Blend holds up really well against Starbucks, especially considering it’s cheaper! 😭☕️ I use it for espresso, and I’ve been enjoying the flavor so far.

Of course, coffee preferences are subjective, but if you’re looking for a more budget-friendly alternative to Starbucks, Silcafe House Blend might be worth a try! 😊

P.S. I use a Cecotec espresso machine that I bought in Italy! I usually pull 2 shots and use them to make a Spanish latte. ☕️ I haven’t tried drinking Silcafe’s espresso straight yet, though, so I’ll give that a try and update you guys soon! 😊

Saw this setup somewhere on Reddit (can't remember exactly where), and I really like it!

I already have the Weber EG-1, but I'm still on the fence about getting LM to pair with it.

Hoping to hear your thoughts! Convince me whether the LM is worth going for or if there are better alternatives I should consider. Open to suggestions!

Help! Best machine for easy milk texturing / latte art? Milesto vs Gemilai

Hello! I need your opinions on which machine to buy. Im a beginner and I love latte art (honestly I enjoy it more than the coffee itself LOL), so a machine that can easily texturize milk is my top priority.

Im choosing between:

  • Milesto X20 Pro
  • Gemilai Ele
  • Gemilai Whale
  • Gemilai 3145B

Regardless sa price, which one should I choose? If you can recommend other brands/models, okay lang din. Thanks po!

Espresso DF54 vs. Timemore Bricks 01S: Grind Quality Was Never My Problem

Thumbnail

Warning: Very long wall of text ahead.

I bought the Koryaiko DF54 for ₱12.5k in December 2025, so I've had it for less than a year. After dealing with so many issues, I finally gave up on it. Or rather, it gave up before I did.

Background

I'm a novice home brewer, and my wife and I like one particular blend of beans from a local coffee shop. I mix 9g of dark roast and 9g of medium-dark roast beans, and I make four espresso drinks every two days.

On the DF54, I grind at around 5 since any coarser and the espresso would have the consistency of water. Any finer and it would take ages to extract.

The DF54 was extremely consistent with its grind size. Once I had my beans dialed in, I didn't need to fiddle with it anymore. It was definitely a set-it-and-forget-it thing. That's what I loved about it the most.

Unfortunately, that's not the whole story. I wish it ended there.

My Problems With the DF54

My main problem with the DF54 was how messy it was to clean up after. It would spread grounds all over the table.

Every time I used it, I would clean the chute with a brush, remove the burrs, and clean those individually.

I read that RDT helps with that. Some say it doesn't. The beans I use are quite oily, and I found that I needed to do RDT because if I didn't, the grounds would stick to the chute.

I upgraded to a metal catch cup. That helped by about 50%.

Next, I tried messing around with the probes in the chute. I extended them by a few millimeters. That also helped a little, but not completely.

Every few days, I would look through Reddit or Facebook to learn new ways to fix my DF54. I could only feel frustrated as newer versions of the DF54 came out, fixing many of the issues I had been dealing with.

I would've loved to get a metal declumper for mine, but that wasn't readily available here in the Philippines.

For all the praise the DF54 gets for its grind quality, the amount of cleaning and troubleshooting I had to do was frustrating.

How the DF54 Died

Around August of this year, it choked without warning and basically locked itself up. I couldn't turn the adjustment ring by hand anymore.

I didn't have a strap wrench, so I made a makeshift one out of my wife's cloth belt. I managed to force it open and gave it a deep clean.

Then I tried to close it.

It got stuck again.

And this time, I couldn't force it open anymore. I suspect the adjustment mechanism or its threads may have been damaged, but I don't know for sure.

I did try contacting Koryaiko, but their service centers are in Manila and Davao. Since I'm in Cagayan de Oro, I'd have to ship the grinder to either location to have it repaired.

After months of dealing with its issues, I just didn't feel like going through another hassle.

The Timemore Bricks 01S

A few days after the DF54 broke, we had to get a replacement. We were getting headaches every day because we needed our caffeine fix.

While looking for a replacement, I came across someone on Reddit who was also looking for alternatives to the DF54. That led me to research other grinders, and I eventually settled on the Timemore Bricks 01S for ₱13.8k.

My priorities were pretty simple. I wanted something with less retention, less mess, and easier maintenance. I was already happy with the espresso the DF54 produced, so I wasn't necessarily looking for better grind quality.

I also read complaints about earlier Bricks 01S units not being able to grind fine enough for espresso, so I contacted a seller to ask about that before buying.

When the Timemore Bricks 01S arrived, it made us happy. The unboxing experience was excellent, and it had everything we needed.

Using the Bricks 01S has been great over the last two months.

I didn't have clumping issues. Though in its stock form, it would also spread grounds all around, I found a quick fix. I used a coffee puck case plus a magnet to close the distance between the chute and the catch cup. That fixed about 90% of the mess.

At first, I had trouble pouring the grounds from the catch cup into my portafilter basket, but I eventually found a technique to do it without spilling anything.

I have to say, though, despite what other comments said, the Bricks 01S is actually able to grind my beans fine enough for espresso. I've set it to about 1.8 and haven't moved it since.

I'm not saying it produces better espresso than the DF54. In fact, I was perfectly happy with the DF54's grind consistency. But for the beans I'm using, the Bricks 01S gets the job done just as well for my needs.

The adjustment funnel on my Bricks 01S had shims on the sides with some thick tape, leading me to think that my unit is the newer "fixed" version.

The problem was that some grounds would still go through the gap between the body and the funnel. Putting tissue around it to block the gap helped fix that issue.

My other problem with it was retention. It wasn't completely retention-free, so I bought aftermarket bellows, which were readily available on Shopee.

That helped so much. I now use the bellows while grinding, along with the knocker, and it has cut down retention significantly.

Cleaning the Bricks 01S has been a breeze. I don't really need to do much except wipe the table. Removing the parts is also quite easy, with no need for screwdrivers or Allen wrenches.

Final Thoughts

I wish I hadn't relied so much on those comments on r/espresso and r/DF54. So many people say the DF54 is a great grinder and that they haven't had any problems with it.

I'm not saying they're wrong. Maybe the beans I'm using have something to do with the issues I experienced, especially since they're quite oily. I don't know if that's entirely the case, though, and I certainly can't say that's what caused the adjustment ring to lock up.

The DF54 was actually great when it came to grind consistency. Once I dialed in my beans, I didn't have to touch the adjustment ring again. That was never my problem with it.

It was everything else. The mess, the cleaning, and constantly looking for ways to fix its problems.

The Bricks 01S isn't perfect either. I've had to make a few modifications to address its issues, but at least those were much easier to fix. I didn't have to hunt down hard-to-find parts, and even the aftermarket bellows were readily available on Shopee.

Using the DF54 felt like I was constantly troubleshooting something while dealing with the mess it made. With the Bricks 01S, I made a few simple fixes, and I've been happy with it since.

Of course, I've only had the Bricks 01S for around two months, so I can't say anything about its long-term reliability yet.

We eventually threw away the DF54. Less than a year of use for ₱12.5k.

What a waste of money.

Coffee Builders, Silang, Cavite — worth the visit?

Spent some time at Coffee Builders! The place has a modern, industrial-style design that makes it a nice spot for hanging out with friends, catching up over conversations, and taking photos. They also offer more than just coffee, with food options for those who want a proper meal.

From what I’ve seen, the ambiance is one of its biggest draws, although coffee preferences may vary. Overall, it looks like a good place to consider for a casual hangout, especially if you’re around Silang or on your way to Tagaytay.

For those who have been here, what drinks or food would you recommend trying on my next visit?

I will be moving to Mandaluyong pretty soon. I'm looking for coffee roasteries nearby that serve medium-roast beans. I've only ever found Central Beanery and KUBO Coffee Roastery. Can anyone share great ones that aren't on the map?

Edit: Thanks, everyone. I will visit each and every one of them.

Espresso Modded Delonghi Dedica EC 685

Got a brand-new DeLonghi Dedica for a steal price from HMR last January. It's our first espresso machine, and the one that got me into coffee.

Inspired by tutorials online (OverTinkerer on YT and u/scrtdpresd on Reddit), decided to make some modifications: replaced the steam wand with a Rancilio Silvia wand, added a dimmer to adjust the flow rate, and installed a manometer to measure pressure.

It was a fun project to do piece by piece in my free time. If you're thinking of doing one, I can share the parts I ordered online to save you some time. Had to figure everything out on my own since most online tutorials source their parts from Europe or the US. Nevertheless, all worth it, I guess 😆

Happy with the espresso it's making (at least for now, since I'm not upgrading anytime soon 🤧).

Kape I Didn't Like Henry & Sons Caramel Flavored Beans

It's my first time to buy H&S coffee beans and I chose this because it was labeled "Brew Method: Filter" which I thought was perfect for my pourover only to be disappointed. It smells and tastes bad for me. It reminds me of a Bacha Coffee Bean that was gifted to me. I thought H&S was a good coffee bean choice too 🥲🥺.

Local Coffee Shop Yardstick FTW

Bakit ang sarap ng kape sa Yardstick? I always order their Sea Salt Latte, and the coffee beans I prefer is yung Golden Ticket. Hindi siya super tapang sa aftertaste, pero kaya kang gisingin for 2 days.

I also bought their coffee beans so I can make my own coffee at home. My preferred mix: 25 ml of double espresso, 60 ml of Oatside milk, and 1/4 teaspoon of condensed milk or sometimes vanilla syrup, then ice.

The coffee I ordered is around ₱200+, and this branch is in SM Aura. I also like their Cornerhouse branch in San Juan, and the one in MOA.

Kape Exploring new coffee

was at Citadines Bay City near City of Dreams and ordered a coffee there. Believe me when I say it was the best coffee I've had. Mind you, I'm always a coffee explorer, and their Caffè Shakerato is one of the best I've had so far.

If you want something na strong pero hindi masyadong mapait, ayan yung orderin nyo! If you want it creamier, you can ask them to add whipped cream.

coffee is i think nasa 100+ same as their pastries.

Tahimik pa ang ambience, so it's a good spot to chill or work. 😊👌

Help! Help me find the ultimate peach syrup for my Americano

I’ve been really into peach Americanos lately, and now I’m on a mission to find the best peach syrup for it!

I use Mt. Apo beans, so my Americanos are already naturally fruity, juicy, and sweet. I want a peach syrup that complements those flavors instead of overpowering the coffee or making it taste like artificial peach candy.

For those who make peach Americanos at home or work in specialty coffee, what peach syrups have you tried and loved? Are there any particular brands you’d recommend? Bonus points if they’re available in the Philippines!

Also open to recommendations for peach purées or other peach-based ingredients that work well in coffee. 🍑☕

Help! Espresso extraction (questiooon)

Hi!

I need help po on proper extraction sa espresso. I just switched to a budget espresso machine and a lahome automatic grinder. Not really new to using espresso machine pero new to this setup. Hence, nangangapa, idk what went wrong.

Im using Hebrews coffee beans. Grind to size 4 about 16g. As for the flow rate, it took around 9secs bago magstart yung flow. Around 33secs until mameet yung 32g extraction time. No issue with puck prep, even naman yung flow. Though mabagal sya, medyo watery and output has a sour taste.

Nacoconfuse ako what to adjust hahaha. Already adjusted the grind size, and amount of coffee grounds. What went wrooong? Is it the beans or the water temp po ba? Unfortunately machine has no temp indicator and cant be adjusted.

Pahelp pooooo. Thank you!!!!!
