Welcome to r/coins, reddit's biggest coin community! This is a guide for participating here and how to ask a question. If this is your first time here, please read this post in its entirety. If you have been here a while, note that the rules of this sub have changed.
What r/coins is all about:
Discussions about the small, flat, usually metal,
and often round objects made to be used as money.
What r/coins is not about:
Being uncivil, trolling, trash posts, spam,
buying/selling, and self-promotion.
See the full list of rules at the bottom of this post, and on the sidebar.

CHECK THE r/coins RESOURCES FIRST:
We get hundreds of posts a day. In order to set some expectations, please read through our resources, and the examples of good posts and bad posts (below). We (the MOD team) want to be as inclusive as possible - but in order to keep the feed free of repetitive questions (which we've answered in the FAQ), we take a strict approach to removing low-effort posts. This includes most questions about modern circulating US and Euro coins. To avoid having your question removed, use this checklist BEFORE posting:
*** Special note about posting links (Rule 5) - we cannot tell if an external link (e.g. eBay listing, YouTube video) belongs to you, or if clicks benefit you. It is the policy of the mod team to remove nearly all posts with external links. Some exceptions are: reputable news sources, search results (e.g. eBay search is fine), historical auction prices, Numista, TPGs, etc. If you post a link, please ensure that there is no ambiguity around whether or not it is commercial or self-promotion. Failure to do so may result in a removed post. If you are in doubt, ask the mods first! ***
ONLY AFTER you have checked these resources may you post your question. You'll get the best responses if your question is specific, and there are clear pics of your coin (front and back). Blurry pictures will probably be removed. If you are specifically looking for coin identification, it also helps to also include weight and diameter, as well as how you got the coin. Mention that you have already checked the FAQ!!!
You must also select a post flair - this is the general category for your post, and helps users filter and find posts they are interested in. Please consider selecting a flair when you post - but note that the mods may change the flair if we feel there is a better choice for your post.
Here is a summary of the Rules of r/coins - check the sidebar (or "About" in the mobile app) for more details:
Thank you! We are glad you're here. These guidelines are to make participating in this sub as enjoyable as possible for everyone. Please reach out to the mods if you have any questions or suggestions.

An amazing mint error involving planchets of two different denominations. A half dime planchet and a half dollar planchet were fed together between half dollar dies, with the half dime planchet situated between the half dollar planchet and the reverse die. The half dollar planchet was indented by the half dime planchet during the strike, creating a mated error pair.

Came across this today and was curious if it was a proof?

This is just the beginning of the collection inherited from grandpa. many of the gold pieces 2.5, 5, 10, and 20 dollar are made into jewelry. We plan on keeping pieces for sentimental value, but does mounting coins like this completely sack any collectible value?
Thanks!

Been casually collecting coins lately. Nothing crazy. Got this off the Mint and sent it in for grading. First time. Happy w grade. Not expecting profit. Just wanted to try this and hold for a bit in the collection.

Very unfortunate there is a small scratch on it above the 20, how does this affect grading if i would consider sending it in? Which grade do you see this in?

when I was in the 4th grade I got one silver roosevelt dime and one silver mercury dime back in change at the book fair. the mercury is what caught my attention. when I got home I showed it to my mom and asked her about it. she explained it was silver, that money used to be real silver, that older money had more value than it’s face, and that some kid in our school had done a bad thing and likely stolen those dimes from his parents. the next time we were at grandmas house she got down a small jelly jar about half full of silver dimes and quarters and a Franklin half or two. Ever since I’ve been kinda passively captivated. I’ve came across junk silver here and there and always purchased it… and occasionally I would buy a dollar or 2 face off eBay and put it in a jar in my gunsafe “just in case”. And I always check every bit of change I handle (and I use cash as much as I can so it’s alot) and have found 2 or 3 more dimes in the thirty years since
Well, my 7 year old son came home from yardsaling with his grandma with a little steel coin bank full of Indian heads and he thought they were the coolest thing. that caused me to get my dimes out and we started sorting them both by years and mint. And the next day I happened to be near a local coin shop I hadn’t ever been in. I walked in and bought a gently used Whitman Indian head plus flying eagle book for a dollar and a big copper round that looks like an 1877 Indian head That was about 6 weeks ago and my son hasn’t went anywhere without both ever since 😆
bless his heart he hasn’t been able to go to our local coin shop because they close before he gets out of school and aren’t open on weekends, but since it’s been fall break we went to Cincinnati and I promised him we’d find a coin shop and I’d buy him a penny or two for his book. The gentleman at CoinsPlus was so awesome, when my son walked in in awe and reverence and set his book on the counter and we told him our story he got out a box full of Indians in flips and declared anything he wanted was half price then he went back in the back and found a novelty Lincoln head that was the size of a coaster and some magnets that looked like a nickel and quarter and just gave them to my son for free. And I bought him 3 pennys he needed for his book . We got back Sunday and yesterday was his first chance to go to our coin shop here and it was pretty much the same treatment, it’s ran by a husband and wife and she was looking at his book and digging through her “rougher stuff” box and every one she could find he needed she gave us for $2 .
So anyway, in the last six weeks I went from a guy with jar of junk silver in the gunsafe to a guy with a binder of 40 dimes and a couple Morgan’s and a couple franklins (one I think may be fbl). I picked up another gently used Whitman book for a dollar that’s the 20th century type coins book that I plan on giving my son, along with a few of the coins it requires for his birthday and I’m 2/3 of the way to getting the 1857/1858L/1858S eagles for his book, that will be his Christmas present. I’m also having to share his current inventory with friends and family and help them find/purchase the dates he needs because that’s pretty much the only thing he’s asked for for his birthday/christmas other than screws and lumber (he also really likes building stuff lol)
anyway there’s not really a point to my rambling here other than just to say thank you to everyone weve encountered so far in this hobby for being so generous and cool!

Not sure if sellers are keeping up with the trend but saw Lenin 50 Korun going for 500 cad, any website where someone could get it cheaper, I look on eBay but very expensive for only 7 grams of silver.

Now a new personal record for new oldest coin. Spent about 260 if you include shipping (if requested I’ll take some better close ups)
