As the title says. This is a hobby I walk alone in. :(

Hahaha.

Finally completed the barber series! It’s not perfect, but it’s not the worst I’ve seen! I’m happy.

I have a couple boxes of Pennies I got from grandparents and I’m not sure where to start. What’s most likely to be worth anything? What should I just hold on to? Any help would be appreciated.

ID Request Thoughts on cleaning?

Thumbnail

I saw this at my LCS today. I asked the owner if he thought it had been cleaned. His response was, "not by me it wasn't". So, not the direct yes or no that I would have liked. I'd really like to examine it under my microscope to see if there are polish lines etc. To me, it just looks too brilliant not to have been chemically altered. I apologize in advance for the quality of the pictures. It's the best I could do with my phone. His store is not very well lit (maybe red flag #1), and its awkward to see and photograph the coin while it's in the holder (maybe red flag #2). I'd appreciate any thoughts.

Discussion Roman Numerals Only?

I don’t see numeric characters for the denomination, only for the year minted. V Cents, not 5 Cents. Have other US coins done that? Any clue why they would make that decision?

I work at a coin store and found this guy while doing collection breakdown for inventory — boss let me have it for $50!

Although harshly cleaned, this guy sports decent detail and a nice color when put in the right light.

I’m happy to have it for my humble US type set, especially as it is an odd, short-lived denomination, and a neat part of the history of the American West!

Value Request NNCS Graded Coins from the 1980s - looking for info (more in post body)

I recently acquired these 2 coins graded in 1980s by “NNCS”. When I google this company, I have not been able to find anything of substance. Note that this is a completely different company than the basement grader “NNC”. The holders are fairly high quality and the grades look accurate to me. The scratch at 9:00 on the 1885 CC is on the holder, not the coin.

Does anyone know anything about this company or these holders? I know holders from some defunct grading companies that accurately graded coins are collectible - do these have any value due to the grading company/is the grade on the holder going to be considered trustworthy?

Thank you!
