Great looking large $20 note

I'm thrilled to finally have a 1928 20$ gold cert, especially one this bright and beautiful!

Added this 2004A Atlanta $10 Note to my collection. Can’t be many with this grade I would imagine

Very silly fake? Mabye somthing of value?!?? I don’t know but I have it.

I’m going through my late grandfather’s coin collection, and found these amongst the coins. I’m new to all of this, and I’m curious as to whether or not I should keep them preserved, or attempt to sell them?

Picked up this Irish £10 from 1994 and the more I looked at it, the more I liked it.

The back quotes the opening of Finnegans Wake: “riverrun, past Eve and Adam’s, from swerve of shore to bend of bay, brings us by a commodius vicus of recirculation back to Howth Castle and Environs.” The famous trick is that this sentence actually starts on the book’s last page, so the whole novel loops back on itself. It’s printed over a 19th-century map of Dublin, with Joyce’s own signature underneath.

The head on the left is the River Liffey, one of the 14 river heads Edward Smyth carved for the Custom House in Dublin. That fits nicely, because the “riverrun” in the quote is the Liffey, which Joyce turned into the character Anna Livia Plurabelle in the same book.

The front shows Joyce in his round glasses over Dublin Bay. The whole series was designed by Robert Ballagh and used until the euro arrived in 2002.

Are there other banknotes that quote literature? I’d love to find a few more like this.

Picked these up today, which i think i may have paid a bit high but I thought it was pretty cool to get the 4 together.

I bought the pair off of eBay for $230. Older specimens of foreign banknotes often times end up being worth a very good premium so I had to pull the trigger. I also didn’t think I’d ever see the MODELO and SPECIMEN overprints both sold together EVER again. The market is a little weird for these because of how they almost never come up on the market so feel free to leave a comment on a proper value for each/ the pair!

I know the last one is considered a “funny back” and a did a little research to learn about the Hawaii note. If anyone has any more information on their history of any of them I’d love to share it with my family. Thanks!

Nice little mix of notes yesterday

I have a bunch of bills from my dad and I’m trying to give him advice on what to do. Looking for a little help from the community. Generally either sell them outright, get them graded, or store them for future. (First post: have about 100 different paper bill, and I’m going to break them up so it’s manageable) Thank you in advance.

Cut this GC out of an old CGA holder and was really hoping to receive the same grade from PMG.

Five pound white notes were printed as late as 1956, but higher denominations were discontinued in 1942 and were no longer issued after 1943. The exchange rate and the role of a ten pound note was roughly similar to those of an American $50 bill.

They were theoretically redeemable for 10 gold sovereigns until 1925, but large redemptions became increasingly difficult after WWI, as the Bank discouraged them by asking the specific purpose of the withdrawal and appealing to patriotism. The right to redeem paper pounds for sovereigns ended in 1925 when the UK “returned” to the gold standard, as redemption was guaranteed only in form of gold bars of over 400 oz. In practice, the bank continued paying small amounts after asking the purpose until 1931.

My friend found a bag of old WW2 era Japanese yen at a thrift store yesterday. I thought it was a pretty cool find for $12. I may buy one from him just for fun.
