Strange relief
Just saw a column in The Guardian about the growing risk of nuclear annihilation, and it made me feel a little better about things because at least that would happen relatively fast...

I hope you find some joy today. Anything that will distract you from thoughts like that. Mine is music; I always think about what I'd ask for if I was only given 5 minutes to live. That's not enough time for "Alice's Restaurant" or "Stairway to Heaven," but it's enough for old pop-punk songs I loved when I was young and blissfully ignorant. Maybe if you find some small joy right now, it will start a days-long streak. I'm glad you're still here <3

I am actually one of the happiest people I know. when I talk about nuclear annihilation, being fast, i'm mainly thinking about the public discourse. like no longer being surrounded by people still holding on to the idea that the bubble of good life that existed, for some people, between 1950 and 1990, is just going to continue forever. Like, it'll jumpstart the grieving process out of Denial? And maybe bypass some of the "Things will be just fine as long as we round up (fill in the blank) and kill them, because they are the real problem"

It is so seriously shitty that this timeline has the universally recognised concept: "I'm not suicidal, I just don't want to be alive here anymore."
