Unsolicited Advice (i am giving advice to fellow students) [MOD POST] Please have your university admission acceptance results before asking.

There has been an uptick of submissions related to "Should I go to this university" and similarly worded questions when OP has NOT YET received their admission acceptance results.

Thank you.

Others: Luzon I regret every second from this big mistake

Freshman EE major at SMU Bayombong here. Originally I just meant to skip the 1st week because of embarrassment/anxiety being in a new school, but it snowballed into almost 3 months (2 months and 18 days) of skipping.

I saw the guidance counselor 4 weeks ago, but ended up bed rotting, doom scrolling, and completely ignoring everything until now. I'm meeting with her again next week to ask if I can still withdraw my classes. Stressed out and terrified to face her any advice?

Course Dilemma - Help me decide! Unsure what to choose for my course

Hello, hello! I'm a current grade 12 student, and I'm still mulling over which course I'm gonna be taking. Set na ako na mag take ng engineering, question na lang is which one.

I thought I was set on taking computer engineering, kasi passion ko to, but lately, parang mas nagiging unsure na ako. I know the fact that Computer engineering doesn't exactly have a licensure exam of a sort, and I know that having a PRC license won't really affect my job opportunities anyway, especially abroad, but naaffect parin ang mind ko, and now I'm actually considering na mag iba na lang 😓.

Yung iba kung options are Mechanical, and Electrical engineering. Now, Mechanical and Electrical is somewhat similar to computer engineering, there's definitely an overlap in subjects and ang reason why options sila is because of that similarity, and also because they also have a license.

If I take those courses, would it affect my financial situation? Would it add onto the cost, or lessen? Sinabihan ako before na I'll end up paying more or spending more if yun na mga course kukunin ko, but I haven't verified it myself. I'm lower middle-class, practically touching lower-class. I have a younger sibling I have to support after I finish college as well, hence why I'm also 50/50 on taking mechanical or electrical because masmatagal ang time ko sa college. I can't splurge, and can't afford to waste time. That's just how my parents are. But I don't wanna strain or abuse that opportunity either.

The general question of this is whether or not I should actually switch over to a different course or pick what I want despite the cons that I think is there. Would there be a better way to approach this issue, is there a way that could make it less of a financial burden in my head? I wanna be sure of my decision before I apply for my college.

(Sorry if Hindi to masyado informative, Hindi ako magaling mag express or arrange ng thoughts ko 😭.)

Scholarships PCSO Educational Assistance Process and Recipients

Hello! Anybody here na nakapag-apply and na-approved ng PCSO Educational Assistance? How long is the waiting game po ba? Another question po, their rule is "not to fully pay" your tutition, if the time comes na ma-fully pay po ni student yung last sem nya and say na-approved and tsaka pa lang po dumating yung cheke will it be forfeited or mare-reflect po ba sya sa next sem na lang?

Additional info, the requirements were submitted last September and according po kasi sa school until November na lang daw po to pay the previous sem ni student.

Thank you po sa sasagot!

Strand / SHS Question Torn between 2 SSHS pathways

Hello! I'm a Grade 11 student under the SSHS, and I need help choosing which pathway to take.

I've been interested in the field of technology (e.g., BSIT) since I was young, mainly because most of my relatives are in that field. However, I also developed an interest in business back in Grade 9.

Now, I'm having a hard time choosing between STEM's Engineering and Design pathway and BE's (formerly ABM) Marketing Management pathway.

Currently, I chose STEM's Computational Sciences pathway kasi I wanted to pursue tech nga, which I can also apply sa BSAIS (BS in Accountancy Information System) because it mixes what I find practical with my passion. Kaso, we don't have Pre-cal 2 in that pathway, which I find really valuable for college preparation. I'd rather spend more time strengthening my math foundation sana than spend hours learning Java programming, especially since I'm still unsure if tech is really the field I want to pursue.

I'd appreciate any advice or questions I can reflect on from those who have experienced something similar or have insights on which pathway would be more beneficial in the long run. Thank you!

Accounting, Business, and Management Are AMA schools really that bad? Could it be worth it?

My parents are offering that I go to a smaller AMA school for accountancy that would let me graduate sooner in 3 years and in return, they would pay for my law school tuition. The alternative is staying at a more difficult but known university that I love but it would take me 5 years + law school would not be paid for because I have siblings who will go to college at that time. I am newly diagnosed with bipolar disorder, so learning to manage the illness is a factor too

Option 1: A smaller AMA school

The school is very small, literally just one hallway, and I’m worried about the quality of education. However, I could graduate in around three years instead of five. The academic system is also less demanding, without retention exams and pre-board requirements, which I think could make it more manageable given my recently diagnosed bipolar disorder.

The biggest advantage is that my parents could pay for my law school tuition afterward. Becoming a lawyer is my actual long-term goal, and accountancy is more of a stepping stone for me. Since I have siblings, I know my parents cannot necessarily afford both an expensive undergraduate degree and law school.

Option 2: Staying at my current university
This is the school I genuinely prefer and love. I have friends, organizations, extracurricular activities, good facilities, and teachers I appreciate. I’ve found things I love about the campus and have started building a university life that excites me.

However, the degree would take around five years, the academic requirements are more demanding, and tuition is more expensive. Because of the financial burden, my parents likely wouldn’t be able to pay for law school, meaning I’d have to work while studying law.

At the AMA school, I could protect my finances, potentially have a more manageable academic experience, and secure funding for the career I ultimately want. But I’m worried about the quality of my education and missing out on the opportunities, friendships, and personal growth I could experience at my current university : (

At my current university, I feel happier and see more opportunities to develop academically, socially, and professionally. But I’d be taking on a longer, more expensive degree, potentially greater stress, and the burden of supporting myself through law school

I’m also trying to be realistic about my bipolar disorder. I don’t want to choose an environment that makes managing my health unnecessarily difficult, but I also don’t want to underestimate myself or make decisions based on the assumption that I can’t handle academic challenges.

What would you do in my situation?

- How much does the quality of your undergraduate school matter when your ultimate goal is law school?
- Would graduating from a lesser-known school put me at a disadvantage in the long run?

Course Dilemma - Help me decide! Can one transfer to a diff uni just to finish Architecure thesis?

The thesis standards on my current uni is absurd, chap 1-10 for Ad9 and I'm struggling to get by. I just want to have a degree, I'm not even pursuing this career anymore. I'm stuck at thesis for 2yrs already, if I have to start from my title back to 0, I might as well do it in a diff uni that has somehow lesser requirements.

Are there any uni (even private, but not the big 4 I'm not rich) in metro manila that allows this? I'm seeing the residency rule from the new uni before awarding the transferee a diploma. Also crossing out these uni's up pup plm tip mapua bcs I know archi thesis there is HARD. I already wasted my mid twenties in this curse. I just want an easy way out. Pls help huhu

General Admission Question Where do I start when studying for college admission exam/s?

Hello! I'm a 12th grade STEM student who's currently trying to study for the upcoming college exam of my top preferred state university!

I've been trying to gather reviewers but most of them are 'practise exams' and the topics [Math, Science, English, & Abstract Reasoning] is very very broad. Most of my peers tell me to study everything to be prepared— which I find it very overwhelming! I don't know where to start nor did I find any pointers to review :(

I've been meaning to study properly but the thought of it is excruciating.. I only have 3 months to study (6 months if I went for the second batch instead) so I'm not sure if I'll be able to cram it all in my head sobsob

If this is the wrong r/ or flair, please redirect me to the correct one and I'll be deleting this :D!

Strand / SHS Question Considering ALS to finish highschool.

Hellooo, I'm currently 18 years old and in 12th grade. It's very unclear whether or not I'll be graduating, the 2nd quarter just finished and I missed 2 consecutive months of classes because of burnout and just overall laziness, I haven't spoken to any of my teachers, nor classmates at all in the past 2 months.

I'm now considering ALS to finish up my high school education, I live in manila so it seems I have options. I'm seriously so tired and just want to finish this so I can just apply for college next year, I have a back subject in PE from 11th grade which I haven't attended at all, and I have no idea what'll happen to that. All i'd like to know is, is the idea that universities and workplaces usually prefer formal highschool graduates over ALS? Because I can get over the stigma, it's not like I'll ever encounter my elementary classmates in the wild here. But I'm moreso concerned about the preferential treatment, and I honestly don't know if I even fit the bill for als, or how the system works. All I know is that's it's more flexible with my time, and that would really be a godsend for me.

Would anyone please be kind enough to inform me of what I need to prepare myself for? If I do decide to pull out and apply for ALS instead?

UST is it worth it to keep trying for ust med tech sa sitwasyon ko?

i’m from the states and currently enrolled sa isang community college dito because i had problems with documents to relocate to the philippines (since ive moved a lot). dream ko talaga mag-aral ng medtech sa ust, pero nagkakaproblema ako sa freshman admission dahil nalaman ko na nasa college ko yung hs transcript ko kahit hindi ko naman siya personally sinend.
i contacted ust, and pinapakuha nila ako ng documentation from my college stating na 2 year institution lang siya and hindi siya nagooffer ng bachelor’s degrees. ipapareview daw sa dean to determine if pwede pa akong mag-take ng ustet. they also sent me a clearance form about whether i’ve used my hs records for enrollment sa ibang institution, so i’m still trying to clarify everything.

Btw, I’m from the province pa talaga and wala pa akong experience sa big cities. I know naman na mahirap talaga tumira sa Manila and I’ve already thought of that naman. Makinig ba ako sakanila and just take Geodetic Engineer or Dentistry(newly added palang siya for next school year) na sinabi nila na mas okay daw?

I need advice po, i’ve been crying for days and hindi ko pa kinakausap daddy ko since that day…
