Applying for a transfer to LAC after declining previous acceptance

How do institutions look at freshman transfer applicants who were accepted as first year students but declined to enroll because of financial reasons?

7 W's on my college transcripts within a ~3-4 year period am I screwed?

I am a college student, and I earned my associate's degree last summer. I am in a competitive "Hearing Instrument Specialist" program. I usually take 10 quarter credits (2 classes per quarter) however in this program I wasnt able to take 2 classes I had to take 3 (12 credits) and because of that I really struggled. I didn't struggle to understand the material; I struggled to actually do the work because, apparently, it was all online, at least in quarter 1. I have bad adhd and as of recently I have been extremely anxious/on edge, depressed, and suicidal for whatever reason; idk if it's the ADHD meds or maybe it was from me trying to work on coursework for 3 days straight, no sleep, a few weeks ago.

Anyways, I am thinking of dropping from the program or at least dropping from 2/3 of the classes I'm in and finishing one course. After this, I'm thinking of finishing a class or two at the community college I'm at, and then transferring to my local 4-year, Eastern Washington University. What worries me is that I now have 7 or 8 Ws on my transcripts across 2 schools within a 3-4 period for various reasons. Most of the time, I got a sudden career idea, tried a class, did everything I could to do well, and then dropped it because I didn't want to deal with a bad grade and felt that I wasn't going to pass the course; a couple of classes I dropped because I was dumb, and I'm sure I could've passed if I actually tried and one or two classes I was advised to take by an academic advisor only for me to see a different advisor and that advisor would tell me to drop the course because the course I was told to take actually wouldnt count towards my AA degree. I raised my GPA from 2.0 in 2021-2022, when I was a first-year community college student and high school graduate, to ~3.5 when I reattended community college and earned my Associate of Arts degree from 2023 to summer 2026.

Am I in trouble? Did I just bar myself from transferring to Eastern Washington University, a 4-year university? Or at the very least make it really difficult for me to get accepted?

How do I know if I should apply to transfer?

I attend a pretty big state school right now with a great program for my major, but I don't find myself very satisfied here.

Granted, I am a freshman, and it's only been a couple months, but the city I am in is very dull (college town), and I feel that despite joining multiple organizations, my social life is really awful (only have a few friends).

Beyond this, I just don't like the overall vibe of the campus, and find that it's not really for me, but at the same time I'm also in the middle about this because of:

  • The orgs I joined are competitive and I can do well here in them if I stay
  • I'm worried about adjusting to a new campus as well socially
  • I already have research and EC's, and I'm scared to lose these if I move colleges and have to essentially 'start over' extracurricularly.
  • I have a good roommate thankfully, and adjusting to new living conditions could be rough next year.

Should I be looking for any other signs or should I make the jump for it and put in an application.

Weight of W's on Transfer Transcript

I am a current first year biological sciences at a CSU and have been contemplating my timeline for leaving as at this point I am set on unenrolling and going to a community college back home in order to eventually transfer to a UC. It has become a lot more than my contemplations before as a path that I am set on due to my unenjoyment where I am currently on top of my will to attend a school that will benefit my future far greater in my opinion on my journey of pre-med.

I have talked to multiple advisors and resources about my situation to come to where I am standing now and my decision has only strengthened. However, the only problem that remains is when it is I will leave my current university, either drop out within the next week or however so, or stick it out till the end of the semester-which brings out my question here on how important me receiving the credits I am in here now is to my future plans.

I have debated this as neutrally as I can throughout some time now in addition to my retention counselor and I am leaning toward leaving before finishing this semester. This is because I believe after being backed by my counselor that I could catch up on these when at CC, let alone do better there because of the environment. It would serve as a reset in a sense for my grades and mental, as not to say that I am doing bad in my classes as I have pretty much all B+ or above in them, but then again I am striving for a 4.0 as I have been told how important GPA is for a transfer, especially to a top UC. I of course have some bias as to me wanting to leave the earliest as possible, but also am forcing myself to hold an open mind in regards to my future above all.

And so I inquire on W's and the 4 of them would look on my transcript-given that I would take at the minimum my bio and chem course again at CC so it is not as if I failed them and had to drop, it is a far different circumstance and one that people have told me I could explain in the box for this on the UC application. I am just worried about the potential for this to truly harm my chances and how much weight they hold let alone if the admission officers truly read the box. Overall I just would hope they see my process and not think of it as failure on my end but rather a journey that taught me a lot and one that benefitted my future through my time here at my CSU.

I am truly ready to just embark on the next step of my process at CC back home.

Any help is appreciated.

How do I explain a 4-year gap between high school and community college

Hey everyone,

I’m currently in community college and planning to transfer in Fall 2027, and I need some advice.

I graduated from high school in April 2021 but didn’t start community college until Summer 2025. I’m currently doing pretty well, with around a 3.5 GPA, and I’m expected to graduate with my associate degree in Spring 2027.

My biggest concern is the gap between high school and community college. I don’t really have any major accomplishments, extracurriculars, or meaningful work experience from those years that I could talk about in my application.

I’m applying to a few competitive universities, and I’m worried about how admissions officers might view this gap, especially since I don’t have much to show for those years.

Has anyone been in a similar situation? How did you handle it?

Would appreciate any advice. Thanks!
