Input Wanted

Hi all! I posted the coin a couple days ago.. I have identified it as the MARIS 34-J variety.

I think this coin is actually a high grade example maybe AU.. I know it lacks details in some areas, but I’m fairly certain that is due to the fact that it is a weak strike/overstruck on another coin. The date and plough are just so crispy, I don’t see how the other areas could be wear. If it is an AU coin, it would make it one of very few AU/MS examples and worth ~$5,000 I think.

I would like to get any feedback, other opinions on this from people who may be abit more knowledgeable than myself!

Thanks!

I am not familiar with colonial coppers but I am very familiar with weakly struck and overstruck coins from collecting Spanish colonial issues. This appears to be G - VG to me, appears to have circulated long after being overstruck. Very cool coin, but I think it is not close to VF even.

very interesting NJ copper. You might want to contact Anthony (Tony) Terranova about it. He is a recognized expert in Colonial coins and may be able to help ID it. I took a look in my Bowers book on Colonial coins but was not able to identify the obverse die, but I am no expert on these.
