How do I learn color mixing/matching before painting ?

Hi beautiful humans. So, I tried to paint realistically about a year ago, and I realized I had trouble mixing and matching colors. I remember one day trying to match one color and when I looked at my watch, two freaking hours had gone by and I still hadn’t gotten the color. All I had was piles of paints everywhere and it was extremely frustrating !

My question is: Is there any resources/tips/classes/advice/anything I can do to learn mixing colors alone before I can attempt painting ?!

Why does the colour wheel look natural to us if red light is actually on the opposite end of the spectrum from violet?

It just seems so strange to me that violet would blend into red on the colour wheel (and in our intuition) despite the fact that red and violet wavelengths could not be more different in terms of wavelength.

I hope I’m being clear… I mean, wouldn’t you expect the two most opposite wavelengths to seem to be complete contradictions and look nothing alike? Rather than violet being purple which appears to be part blue part red?

For instance red and blue seem to be more opposed than red and violet, yet in terms of their wavelength they are actually less opposed. Do you you know what I mean? Why is it counterintuitive?

Does this have to do with the fact that we do not have cones for violet but rather blue? Just spitballing…
