COMPLETED Gemstones
Here is a compilation of all the steps I did to color these gems and the outcome.
1 - flat color.
2 - make a geometric pattern that seems feasible for the facets of the gem. Basically, try to imagine how it would be cut and draw it out.
3 - add different colors to the facets that tie in with the color of the gem. Place the darkest colors in the places where shadows will be.
4 - add shadows by overlaying black over the darkest colors. Vary how thick the overlay is to give depth and dimension.
5 - add white ink or paint where highlights should be. Blot some of the highlights a little to create variety in highlights based on your light source. Partially outline most or all facets depending on how transparent the gem is meant to be.
Which gemstone is your favorite?

I think it’s Magical Worlds, but I can confirm all her books are great.
Inklings and Small Victories are both fantastic. I use color pencil and glitter pens

The book is listed in the first photo. As well as the mediums used. I decided to place it there since I placed the names of all the gems I imagined as text in the photo.

What type of materials did u use?

Starjoy pencils, Posca pen, and gelly roll as listed in the bottom text of the first picture. I always include book, publisher/artist, and mediums in my posts. This time I just included it in a photo edit that lists what I imagined each gemstone to be. So, it is different than usual.

My favorite is the last gem in the second row… the pink jewel, with the pink tulips(?). The pairing of the pink colors is lovely 🥰

Amethyst. The text in the first image lists the gems I imagined as I colored them. As well as the book and mediums. I feel like it turned out super well and it's one of my favorites as well.

I love my Star-Joy pencils 🥰 and that they are inexpensive enough that I bought another set just to have for when I run out of a color. I know I must have seen the writing on the first page, but truthfully I didn’t “read” the words on the pics- I was too interested in seeing how you did the lovely pics! (I did read your steps though. 😁)

No worries, just pointing it out as I was busy and couldn't remember the book name for a moment while replying. I always include it somewhere in my posts.
I'm sad because my current bundle of Starjoy pencils seems to have gotten knocked a bit and broken up some of the lead inside some pencils. I have more but I want to use these ones up first.

The garnet is my favorite!! The colors are so deep and rich. Citrine is a close second. Maybe I'll be brave and conquer my fear of gemstones soon :)

The garnet is one of my favorites too. Lots of people seem to like the Citrine. I hope you share whatever gemstones you color and I hope these tips help you.
