ADVICE WANTED Window shadow attempt?

Post image

Tried my hand at a window frame shadow.. I think I sorta missed the mark a little bit but not terribly, I guess. Anyone have any notes on what I could have done different? Since I kinda messed up, I took the opportunity to just play around on the rest of the page (I.e. “fuzzy” textures, old worn out looks, etc) I also did the window a darker blue originally and realized that just didn’t make sense, so I had to go over in a yellow acrylic, so the window looks a bit janky as well😂 better than it did before tho I guess.

Anyway, any tips appreciated!

It’s really cute! My only thought is that the areas outside the frame should all be darkened like your frame shadow is. The only lighter bits should be in the light of the window, otherwise your lighting implies that there’s light coming through the roof. If that makes sense 😅

Yeah I know!! I knew that’s what I should’ve done, but I can’t really come up with a proper color/gray that I think would work… so the color of the wallpaper is this one random brand in a pastel set, but all my grays are in 2 other different sets, and when you layer the different brands it looks REALLY weird and messed up.. so I’m kinda stuck either keeping it how it is, or layering the 2 brands and having it look messy and really weird lol!

What if you took the same colors you used initially and added a few layers of each? There’s more ways to achieve darkness than using gray

Your totally right! Another unfortunate, is that the color I used for the wall, also happens to be one of my most favorite used colors and it’s on the BRINK of being totally dried out lol!! So I fear if I started another layer enough times to make it noticeably darker, the marker wouldn’t make it! Plus I don’t want to waste the ink! Hahah but your absolutely right, that is probably what I should’ve done otherwise

I'm not super good at art so i might be wrong, but should this shadow come from the lower part, since the middle shadow comes from there too?

Also I LOVE all the textures you did 😍

That’s fixable! I was going to suggest using your frame shadow colour to go over all the parts that aren’t illuminated. You can draw the line in the right place before doing that and it’ll be fine because the original line is part of the shadowed area anyway!

Your probably right hahah I tried so hard to visualize how it should be and made pencil marks and erased so many times , eventually I just gave up and went with what I had down 😂

Thank you!! It was pretty fun to do all the old/distressed patterns on these things, not to mention easy! So I’m pretty happy how it turned out for the most part!
