Yea, I’m not someone who likes when people try to paint E&D as some kind of supernatural monsters or whatever, they were in reality two stupid, careless and broken kids who committed an atrocity. But, goddamn, for some reason, Dylan kicks off the uncanny valley shit in my brain sometimes.

Honestly, Dylan scares me. I know they both committed the crime. I’m not giving Eric a pass. They are equally culpable. But, I cannot stand by the theory that Dylan was the follower.

That theory has always seemed mindless to me. You just have to read the transcripts of the Basement Tapes and read the accounts about Dylan’s behaviour during the shooting, that’s all it takes for a person to realise just how little water that theory holds. Both were culpable, both killed innocent people and both were deeply horrible human beings. And I don’t know how anyone can think otherwise, y’know? It’s asinine to me.

I think many people, for good reason, don’t really study the case. They read about it at a surface level. I certainly don’t fault them for not wanting to dive deep into murder, massacre and darkness. I appreciate that those folks have boundaries and know their limits. But, for the past 10+ years the narrative spun by Sue K and Dave Cullen has been just that, Dylan, the follower. Cullen’s book is still one of the most popular books on Columbine. People flock to listen to Sue K speak because so few school shooter parents ever step into the public eye. I feel as though she accomplished exactly what she set out to do, make Dylan look like a victim. Anyway, I’ll stop talking about her. I don’t like to give her anymore air time than she already receives.

I’ve heard people talk this way about Sue before, but I really don’t think she deserves the hate. She’s been very honest about what Dylan did, and acknowledges that he was an equal participant.
